Statement Regarding Alleged Incident Concerning Darren Hayes
Today the Crown Prosecution and The Metropolitan Police concluded there was no case to answer in relation to the recent allegation that singer Darren Hayes had racially abused a door person at a London restaurant on July 22nd 2007. Upon an investigation the Police recommended that no formal charges be brought against Mr. Hayes and that there was no racist undertone to the incident.
"I could never think, let alone utter a racist remark. It's just not who I am," Mr. Hayes said. "As a gay man, I find the notion of discriminating against a human being because of race, gender or sexuality to be abhorrent. It goes against everything I have stood for."
Mr. Hayes confirmed that an altercation took place at the restaurant, for which he received a caution, but strongly denied any racial undertones to the brief exchange. He is pleased that any notion of racism has been ruled out by Police recommendation and he was not charged with any crime.
"It was a horrible thing to be accused of and I want to thank all of my friends, family and fans for giving me the benefit of the doubt. The experience has been frustrating and at times made me very sad, but through it all I have to say I support the legal system and our right of protection under the law. I'm glad the truth is out there. I just want to concentrate on my music now."

Press Release Live Dates
THE OLD FASHIONED WAY
Darren Hayes is soon to begin a series of exclusive regular
performances in London as part of a plan to showcase new material for
his forthcoming album 'This Delicate Thing We've Made'.
The Australian born singer songwriter is about to turn up the heat on
the demand for his new album the old fashioned way : by road testing
it in front of a tiny audience.
In a series of exclusive and intimate twice monthly club
performances, Darren will regularly take over residency of a famous
London venue with a night specially created for him : 'Delicacy'.
With only 150 tickets available to each performance it goes without
saying that demand will far exceed supply. But that's apparently just
how Hayes wants it.
With dates beginning in March, Darren will continue performances all
the way up to the release of his new album in August this year.
"I want to road test new material and play songs that I haven't
performed in years. And hopefully throw a few surprises in as well.
After almost 5 months locked away in the studio, I'm ready to stretch
my wings. I love the new songs and I can't wait to get out there and
debut them live".
Those lucky enough to score tickets will be treated to an eclectic
mix of brand new music, reinvented older tunes and maybe even a few
quirky surprises.
Demand for tickets is expected to be high – with only a limited
number sold prior to each performance. The rest will be available on
the door and via exclusive MySpace only random invitation. Those who
miss out need not shed a tear. Hayes intends staging much larger
shows in the U.K in September and the rest of the world in 2008.
Stay tuned to www.darrenhayes.
exclusive news regarding Venue, ticket availability and also similar
regular intimate dates in New York.

| Press Release |
| Monday, 29 January 2007 |
Darren Hayes could never be accused of doing anything by convention. In a music industry terrified by ever decreasing sales, where budgets are being slashed and the dumbing down of artistry is commonplace - Hayes has pulled out all the stops and recorded an epic and theatrical double album.
He has defiantly said no to the seductive invitation of the majors and is instead gearing up to release his latest album on his very own independent label ‘Powdered Sugar’. Darren Hayes is doing things his own way. And he wants everyone to know about it.
His upcoming album ‘This Delicate Thing We’ve Made’ is an ambitious and cinematic opus. Featuring 25 bold and wildly extravagant pop songs that are already being compared in scope to the work of heroes Kate Bush and David Bowie. And perhaps most fascinatingly, was recorded with a strict commitment to a particular piece of technology as muse and inspiration – a vintage 1983 Fairlight CMI Synthesizer, a clunky synth relic that he scored off EBay. The same model that was at the heart of Kate Bush’s pivotal recording ‘The Hounds of Love’
It’s been 5 years of changes for Australian born and London based Hayes. His independent streak has been ramping up for some years now – but reached the pinnacle last year when he simultaneously announced the parting of ways with Columbia records and his marriage to British boyfriend Richard Cullen in a Civil Partnership ceremony at their home in London.
Out. Personally, professionally and creatively.
And for the first time in 10 years, in control of his publishing and recording future.
Most know the bullet points of Hayes’ pop career. They begin with two words: Savage Garden. As the voice and co-songwriter of those two massive Billboard Number One singles ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ and ‘I Knew I Loved You’ he enjoyed global sales of over 25 million records.
After just two multi platinum hit albums, his band Savage Garden parted ways and Darren decided to do his own thing. This included two solo albums, the first being 2002’s poptastic 2 million selling UK and Australian top 5 album ‘Spin’. His 2nd solo album, a deep, dark and broodingly electronic confessional ‘The Tension and the Spark’ featured collaborations with experimental programmers Robert Conley, the renowned Marius De Vries (Rufus Wainwright, Bjork) and mixes by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent (Madonna, Mirwais, Massive Attack). This record seemed to signal a turning point in Hayes’ artistry. It brought forth stunning reviews from the likes of the UK's prestigious NME (describing Hayes as a ‘genius’). The irony of releasing the best reviewed album of his career was that in the US it was in the hands of a record company who, in Hayes’ words, “Just didn’t get it”. Rather than lose sleep over it, Hayes decided to focus on what he does best: performance.
He spent 2 years touring the U.K, Australia and Asia with variations of a stage show created with long time U2 show designer Willie Williams (U2, Rolling Stones, We Will Rock You). In fact last summer he played to over 30 thousand Brits and triumphantly filmed two sold out and stunningly reviewed shows at Australia’s prestigious Sydney Opera House.
Building up an arsenal of songs over what Hayes now describes as his ‘gap years’ he entered London’s Mayfair Studios in October 2006 with producer Justin Shave to record his double album ‘This Delicate Thing We’ve Made’. Like his mentors Peter Gabriel and Annie Lennox, Hayes had been driven by his demons as much as his ambitions. The effect of those teenage years of burying the shameful secrets of both his violent upbringing and emerging homosexuality would fuel a sadness and a sense of longing that would continue to inform his songwriting.
Some of the songs on the record would not sound out of place in a musical about Jules Verne or H.G Wells’ ‘The Time Machine’. But they’re just a metaphor says Hayes of his ‘Victorian Science Fiction’ dress code. “With this record I was fascinated with the idea of Time Travel as storytelling device to address regret and the possibility for change. I kept obsessing over the notion that if I could travel back in time to the source of my sadness as a child, I would not choose to bring back the violence or the tears. Instead I’d drag some joy back”. In doing so Hayes has managed to craft an album of complex narratives and personal confessions that simultaneously document his arrival at peace within himself and the question that we could all ask ourselves. What would you change, if you could?
“It’s not a concept record, but there is definitely the idea that it begins with a loss of consciousness and a giving over to the notion that we are going to go deep into the psyche,” he explains. Songs like ‘Neverland’ are as dark as any Tim Burton fairytale or Del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’. In stark contrast ‘Who Would Have Thought’ is a gorgeous soaring and moody pop vehicle for tenor Hayes to exclaim “Who would have thought the tiny courageous? Who would have thought that love so belated could save me?” As if to say that all the pain and suffering was worth it in the end.
And according to Hayes, it has been.
“This Delicate Thing We’ve Made” out August. Co Produced by Darren with Justin Shave and Robert Conley. Mixed by Ash Howes (Nelly Furtado, Dido, Kylie)

audience form participating in organized street team activity or
organized voting/requesting.
It is not because I don't love and appreciate your desire to see me
win.
I think the intention is beautiful.
But over the last five years, I think that the industry has become
overloaded with hype : and it's hard to tell what excitement is real
and what is record company bulls*%t.
My audience have always been smarter than the record companies give
them credit. We had an online community ten years ago before the
men in suits even knew what the internet was!
You've always been incredibly supportive and hated to be condescended
to.
And that's why I respect you.
These days, I want to distance myself and my music from anything that
could be perceived as hyped or insincere. If people talk about my
music, I want it to be because they like it, and not because they
think I've sent an army out there to nag radio, press or t.v about me.
Let me make this clear: I know you guys don't do that.
But I don't want us to be confused with those who do.
So that's why I discourage organized voting.
Not because I don't love and appreciate the sentiment.
But because it doesn't necessarily work for me and what I believe in.
lots of love..

| This is a message from me, Darren Hayes.
I'm letting you know, personally, and from my fingertips via the world wide web (via my
sister's lap top) - that the fan club is on vacation until after the new year.
Mostly because it is run by my family - most of which are here with me in London
celebrating the birth of the baby cheeses (are you sure about this Richard?) and generally
being tourists.
They work, work, work all year to make sure you are the happiest you can possibly be..
and I'm sure you'll agree they deserve a big fat holiday.
Any urgent matters will be dealt with in a timely manner.
Off the top of our heads we're lost to think what could be so urgent it would require
yanking my Mother off the London Wheel - but you get the picture.
Wishing you all a very Happy Holiday season!
Lots of love
Darren and all at the FC

Belinda and Rove
Saturday, 11 November 2006
I just wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to Rove McMannusand the friends and family of Belinda Emmett.
I only met Belinda a few times, but she struck me as an angel on Earth. I was inspired by her love for Rove and his absolute dedication to her. Spending moments with Belinda made it completely obvious why Rove married her.
To a complete stranger she was simply magical in person. She literally extended a warmth that was tangible.
May everyone get to experience for just a few seconds the kind of love that She and Rove shared in their marriage.
Rove McMannus is hands down the kindest and most generous man in the entertainment industry. I hope the worlds media extend to him the due privacy and respect he has earned at this time.
God Bless
Darren Hayes

I very rarely make comments about my private life. But today, as I'm about to begin 6 months in the studio to record what I hope to be the best record of my career, I feel an overwhelming gratitude for the past 10 years of being a performer. Most recently, I've been moving toward a career that is more closely aligned with 'art' than it is 'commerce'. And in keeping on this trajectory - I have become increasingly more emotionally authentic in my music, writing and my relationship to my audience. As so many of you have given me your heart and soul over the past 10 years I thought it only fitting that I too return the respect and inform you of the most significant event in my life. On June 19th 2006 I married my boyfriend of two years, Richard, in a Civil Partnership ceremony in London. I can honestly say it was the happiest day of my life. I feel lucky to live in an era where my relationship can be considered legally legitimate and I commend the UK Government for embracing this very basic Civil Liberty. I'm proud of who I am, and after what felt like an eternity, I'm finally in a place where my heart is secure and content. And I can finally make sense of all of the searching. I still maintain the belief that families and relationships are not commodities to be sold off for public consumption. In this regard, I am and will continue to be a public person with a private life. I have always written songs about human relationships and our journey in life. I've never felt the need to differentiate or speak to a specific part of society. This hasn't changed. I will continue to write songs for everybody and hope that the feelings and thoughts I sing about are universal. Today, as I get on a plane to return to London, my head will be filled with all the future possibilities that I hope to explore musically. To the people who buy my records, come to my shows and demonstrate on a daily basis their love and support for me and what I do: thank you. Your overwhelming message to me lately seems to be that you are just glad that I am happy. For this, I am eternally grateful. With love and respect always |

Darren Hayes & Columbia Records/Sony Music Part Ways
Sunday, 09 July 2006
After 10 years and 24 million album sales together, Darren Hayes and Columbia Records/Sony BMG have decided to part ways.
The announcement comes after two sold out performances at Australia's Sydney Opera House last week as a part of his 'Big Night In' tour. The tour, which played to 30 thousand Uk fans earlier this year, has received rave reviews.
"The record industry has changed so much since I was first signed, and so have I" Hayes has said. "I'm grateful for the opportunities given to me but am excited about the prospect of a fresh new start."
Hayes will perform one final show in Bangkok next week before heading back into the studio to complete work on a brand new album set for a 2007 release on a new label.

Better Late Than Never! The first ever Darren Hayes concert film captured during his 2002 'Too Close For Comfort' tour is on it's way.
Filmed over the entirety of the UK and European leg and culminating in two glorious nights at London's Hammersmith Apollo Theatre - the film has been in and out of the editing room for the past 3 years.
The film, directed by Grant Marshall, is unique in it's approach. Not just a typical concert film - 'Too Close' features a radical approach to the presentation of the performance. It comprises footage from each and every night of the tour.
As well as a truly up close and personal approach to recreating the live experience, Darren has, for the first time ever, let cameras follow his every move. The unusually private artist lets his guard down and cameras capture his personality off stage like no one has ever seen.
The initial specially packaged DVD release will be produced in strictly limited quantities.
This collectors version will be individually numbered and feature intricate delux packaging. Once sold out, it will not be produced in this format again.
Check back in with www.darrenhayes.com for more details soon. Limited version available only via website.
