FAQ's
Q. What shoes do I wear?
A. If a lady normally wears heels during the day please wear them for dancing in & vice versa for flat shoes.
Gents a comfy pair of outdoor shoes is fine. (You will not need steel toe caps!)
Please do not wear trainers or open backed shoes (ie flip flops or sling backs).
Q. I have never danced before does that matter?
A. It is a beginners classes designed for ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS, I take it that no one in the room has danced before, and if they have I ask them to bare with me as it is a beginners class.
Q. I have 2 left feet does it matter?
A. It's 2 right feet that I worry about!!
Dancing is not just a matter of learning new steps or knowing your left from your right, its about having fun. In my classes I aim to put the beginner at ease and having fun is one way to learn to dance with little effort. Left and right feet become a thing of the past when first learning.![]()
Q. I can dance but my partner has never danced before does it matter?
A. As I said above it is a beginners class and therefore dances are taught at beginners level. If you have danced before it never does any harm to go over the steps again. The steps that are taught by different teachers, are sometimes very different and are explained in completely different ways. I have been teaching beginners for 20years and the I have changed the basic steps in a Waltz at least 3 times always trying to find easier ways for people to learn.
Q. Which dances will I learn in a Ballroom & Latin class?
A. You will learn in the Ballroom section- Waltz, Quickstep, Tango & Social Foxtrot. In the Latin you will learn - Rumba & Cha Cha Cha. They are all easy steps!
Q. What is the difference between Jive & Rock n Roll?
A. Think of 'Jive' as been an umbrella name for all forms of Jive from 'Rock n Roll' to the 'Lindy Hop' - 'Ballroom Jive' to the 'East Coast Swing'. They are different rhythms with more often than not the same moves. In my Jive classes I teach a rock n roll jive, it is a nice steady repeative rhythm allowing the ladies to preform the first 3 turn patterns whilst the man gets use to his steps, his rhythm and his lead and then we might let him turn
!!!!!
Q. I don't have a partner can I still come to a class?
A. You may come to Salsa as a single male or female as we often have people wanting to take a beginners class for the 2nd time, this is to either help them improve their basics, or sometimes Ladies are often quite happy to redo a beginners classes as a Leader (Man's part). In Ballroom/Latin and Jive classes I cannot provide partners - I wish I could, but I can't. Please remember that teachers are at a class to teach and help when needed, they are not instant partners
Q Where is Ayscough Hall?
A. If you know Louth- Ayscough Hall is on Lee St. Lee St runs down from Newmarket (opp large Newmarket Carpark) to Kidgate. Kais is on the opposite corner along with John Taylor Auction Rooms. I would advise parking in Newmarket Carpark.
A If you don't know Louth- Come in to Louth using the bypass. At the turn off for Louth / Horncastle (near speed camera) turn towards Louth. After about 2 miles you will come to Traffic Lights go straight on and take immediate left into Lee St (narrow road), or park in carpark on righthand side and walk down Lee St. to the bottom and Ayscough Hall is on the right.
Q. Where is Samuels?
A. Samuels (previously known as Cellars) is on Eastgate in Louth and is opposite the Town Hall and is next to Yorkshire Trading. You will see a cream canopy above the door and Samuels is down the stairs.
If you drive to the Church and Eastgate is one of an exits at the traffic light and the sign for 'Eastgate' is well sign posted.
Q. Do I need to book?
A. It is advisable in January to book as I have people waiting to join. All other times of the year it is not always necessary to book but quite often people like to call before hand to ask questions and just to make sure they are ok to come. If I haven't listed your question above and you would like to call please feel free to, but please remember to call during the daytime if possible or for an instant reply I can text quicker than trying to call you back if I am teaching!!
Q. I need Dutch Courage is there a bar (usually asked by the men!)?
A. In the Salsa class at Samuels there is a licensed bar, so Dutch courage available!!
In the Ballroom/Latin & Jive classes at Ayscough Hall there is no bar but there is a license to consume your own alcohol.
However I do provide Tea & coffee free of change and if you are really really really good I have the odd custard cream and bourbon biscuit to help with the sugar levels!!
I hope the FAQ's help.
Come and have fun first then learn to dance, it makes dancing easier![]()
