WFMU, 29/11/2004
with Nick Castro and Josephine Foster
"More beautiful 'doom & gloom' featuring a trio of quirky folk. Nick Castro's debut album, 'A Spy in the House of God', is beautifully tinged with psychdelic touches. Marissa Nadler's been hailed as a smoky chanteuse both sultry and captivating, and her mournful dirges and melancholic ballads are influenced by old-timey americana folk, portuguese fado, psychedelia, and country. Nick Castro says this of Josephine Foster: 'Everyday I wish I had never heard her so that I could hear her for the first time again. I envy you. She is my fav current singer by far and one of my (many) all-time favorites. She can make me weep instantly. Usually by tormenting and ridiculing me (joking) but her singing is great too.'"

"What better way to spend Halloween than with a set of ghostly tunes by Marissa Nadler? Her other-worldly music conjures up the spirits of past and present, best described on her website as, '...unique and gorgeous, skillfully and simply hinting at the songs of the sea, the haunting chansons of maidens, the cowboy ditties of ranchers, and the funerary processions of mourners.' Marissa made her second trip out to play in our WFMU studio, on the way to moving all her worldy possessions back to Boston. She then sets off to a nomadic life travelling and playing throughout Europe."

"Marissa Nadler phones it in from suburban Boston en route to a show. Alternating between a 6- and 12-string guitar, everything about her music is beautiful and dark. A modern Maybelle Carter... listen to this show!"
