Becoming a Vampire
Method by which a person became a vampire, as documented from traditions and folklore.

~ Born at certain times of the year(new moon, holy days)
~ Born with a red caul, with teeth, or with an extra nipple
~ Born with excessive hair(would that count Robin Williams...lol..just joking...but he IS HAIRY), with a red birthmark, or with two hearts
~Conceived on a holy day
~Suckled after weaning
~Weaned too early
~Death without babtism
~Recieved a curse
~Mother did not eat enough salt during pregnancy
~Mother stared at by a vampire while pregnant

A handful of types of Vampires

lamia-This type is from Greece. This legendary female figue which is said to be stunningly attractive and highly dangerous to males and children. Lamia can refer to any female bloodsucker. According to one legend, the queen of Libya, Lamia, whose children were slain by Hera and in revenge, roamed the world sucking all the blood from infants. Other traditions state that she is an ancient demon, with the power to remove her eyes and a desire to entice men to their deaths, ussually devouring them in a most gruesome fashion. The lamiae(plural) were used by nannies to frighten unruly children. The lamia has been inspiration for many female vampires throughout literary history.

Upir-Also, Upir a vampire species found in Ukraine. It is similar to the Upyr, but it is distiguished by it's habit to eat large amounts of fish. This name is used for the vampires in soem regions of Czechoslovakia.

Upor-A Byelorussian vampire species that is a variation of tradition Russian upyr. This creature is known for it's ability to assume different forms and ride horses.

Masan-A feared Indian vampire demon that delights in tormenting and murdering children. The fiend can turn his victims green, red, and yellow though the children can just waste away. The masan can also curse the young with it's shadow.

Zmeu-A ghost-like vampirelike figure found in Moldavia. Thezmeu took the form of a long flame that each night entered the room of a young girl or widow. The flame then becomes a man, who promptly seduces the female. Among the Transylvanians, the zmeu was a shape of a young girl, a maiden of the woods who had no back. She tempted shepherd by offering to lead them to green pastures, if they had sex with her. The recommended way to keep one's virture in this case was to carry a mixture of garlic, candeline, and candle wax.

Danag-A Filipino vampire held to be very ancient as a species, responsible for planting taro in the islands long ago. The danag worked with humans for many years, but the partnership ended one day when a human cut her finger and a danag sucked her wound, enjoying her taste so much he sucked her dry.
