Blowup LA Winter Formal

February 16, 2008

Blow Up LA is an electro event that goes down on the third Saturday of every month. It is presented by Ann Lee and Shadowscene. The location always changes so it is best to get on the mailing list, which is a permanent RSVP. Admission is $5 before 11pm and $10 thereafter, RSVP or not. This was our first time attending this event. It went down in a warehouse in the heart of East LA. Drinks were cheap, but cash was necessary. Wasn't no ATM or card slider. With it being a winter formal theme, there was a photobooth setup where people could get their pictures taken and purchase it for about $5 each. They even had props like crowns and staffs. It was a really dope event. I'd definitely like to revisit this event. I got a lot of dop pics yo. Peep it!

Bridges 5 Year Anniversary

 January 19, 2008

I arrived to this event later than I planned to, but got in after about a 15 minute wait. The homey Blue hooked it up! Bigups! It was crazy packed up in there yo. Many people came out to represent for the Bridges crew! Me and the homegirl Emily had to come and make an appearance! I ran into quite a few homies I hadn't seen in quite some time. There were some dope B-boy circles going on and the DJs were on point. Near the end of the night, the front room DJ really took peeps back, jammin madd ol' skool' R&B tracks yo. It felt like an early 90's dance. This is always a fun event, It goes down the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. I must attend more

The Nite Hiphop Stole Christmas

December 25, 2007

This was the 10th year anniversary of this event. I can't believe it's been so long. I think I attended about half of them. I remember one unfortunate year when it was in Pomona and the pigs came messing stuff up. I don't even remember what all went down, but it ended up a big mess with people not being able to leave for quite some time over some bs. So this year, the event was around the Norwalk area, and it was free, which of course, is always good. It was headlined by Aceyalone and LuckyIam.PSC. Also performing was Jizzm, Dulok Shaman, Xololanxinco, Awol One, and  some other local crews I cannot currently recall.  The scene was pretty chill until the end of the night, when, guess who, the cops show up again. I'm not sure what happened, but Aceyalone was forced to do a rushed set. Damn those pigs yo..

Ellis Snowboards Winter Bash

November 24, 2007

We hit up a pretty dope party at a mansion in Claremont. It was hosted by Eliis Snowboards . They did a great job, with the exception of running out of booze early. That had some people up in a tussle, considering that they had spent money on drink tickets that they could no longer use. Other than that, there were a lot of cool peeps in the house. They had one stage set up, and there was also a rave room. There were some ill performances from LA Hiphop acts, Yello Belly Bastids , The Oddibles, and Kahlee. However, one thing that sucked was that the sound system blew out, pretty much in the middle of The Oddibles performance. That changed the plans for theheadlining band, Beatmo. They were forced to perform in the rave room. I'd never heard of them, but I must say, they were damn good yo. I was highly impressed. There's nothing like hearing a new band that's just dope! And despite the inconvenience of having to set up in a cramped room, it worked out and made for a more intimate performance opposed to everyone else doing their sets across a pool. A mosh pit broke out, and I found myself hopping in. I hadn't done that since the late 90's so, that was fun. It was a beautiful setting for a party, and there were many lovely ladies in the house. It just sucked that around 1:30AM, the cops rushed in and broke everything up. So if Ellis plans on having any other events, I hope to receive an invite once again.

Sirah & DJ Hoppa Record Release Party @ The Airliner

November 6, 2007

Clean Windows, Dirty Floors is the album,
Sirah is the MC, DJ Hoppa is on production. Sirah is a dope MC, straight up. I'd seen her perform before, but this was the first time with a legitimate crowd. I must say, she did her thang yo. It was a very emptional performance, performing on the death anniversary of her father. The crowd really felt her yo. Her DJ for the evening was Lenny Ducano, who's pretty ill himself. Opening acts were Bizzart, Rheteric, and Cleen , who also hosted the event. I love the Airliner. It's always coo up there. Also, it was the weekly Ragsta Nites, which is every Tuesday, going on up there. So there were alot of reggae headz representing. A very talented band The Q's performed.

October 28, 2007

My close homey John has an ill Halloween party every year at his apartment in Fullerton. I'm hella late on posting these pics. I've been pretty lazy lately. John had the craziest costume. I should have gotten a better pic of it. He was a Breathalyzer! Also, one of the other homies was Condi Rice..haha...

Jupitersciples Presents..Can I Get A Witness?? Last Show at Grandstar along with Blue Key Coretet

August 25, 2007

These are some real cool dudes yo! Jupitersciples was an ill Hiphop group and  is a dope jazz band, but they were on more of
a Hiphop vibe tonight! There was also some additional musicians along with them, whose names I cannot recall. A lot of the
homies came out for this event. I really should have taken more pictures, but I was also doing my video thing that night.
Jupitersciples will be missed as a collective, but be on the lookout for
Yellow Belly Bastids!

Dim Mak Tuesdays @ Cinespace

August 14, 2007

It cracks off every Tuesday night at Cinespace. Nice grooves and a good vibe, and only $5. Also, if you arrive between 10 & 11, theres free Svedka vodka drinks. This is a really nice place with TV screens all over. There is a small dance floor, a large smoking patio, and a large theater located in the rear of the club, where live performances take part. Resident DJs are Steve Aoki and Them Jeans. There was a group performing by the name of 303. They were rather interesting with a style of their own and displayed madd energy. The DJ rocked some dope tracks. Peace

Frank 151 Lost Angel Book Release With DJ Muggs @ Shag

August 11, 2007

This was a dope list-only party we attended at Club Shag located off Hollywood & Cahuenga. It was hosted by Greyone and was in commemoration of the release of Frank 151's latest book for the streets, Lost Angel. It's Chapter 29 in the series. There are some ill pics and articles in there yo! But anyways, the party was DJ'd by Muggs of Cypress Hill and Soul Assassins. Also in attendance was Self Scientific, Defari, Stro of the Procussions, and some other cats I failed to notice or see. We were some early birds at this event yo, like some of the first 20 peeps inside. I was really impressed with the venue. Though not too big, it was very plush with leather seats all around and unique smoking deck. The crowd was pretty chill. It took a while to get popping, but it turned out 2 be a pretty nice event.

Microsoft Zune Presents: Live At the Barbecue

July 12, 2007

Live @ The BBQ was a free event sponsored by Microsoft Zune. It took place at a small park in Downtown LA. The artists that were featured were Collie Buddz, E-40, UGK, David Banner, and Common. David Banner was the livest, bringing his performance straight to the crowd. Other than the concert, there was basketball and teatherball, Zune listening stations, Xbox 360 games, and of course, barebecue. I had a dope time. You can't complain much for good, live entertainment for free!

Pool Party @ The Standard Downtown LA

June 30, 2007

Yo this was a very live pool party located on the rooftop of the Standard Hotel in Downtown LA. It was an electronic event that took place the day after the Electric Daisy Carnival. We were there for a long time! We spent about a whole 8 hours or so just partying. From drugged out ravers to swingers to topless swimmers..it made for a very interesting day and night at The Standard.

Pajama Jam

June 29, 2007

Ok..so this wasn't exactly Kid N' Play style, but my homeboy DJ Kenwood was DJ'ing a Pajama Jam in the city of Diamond Bar. These cats were serious yo. They wouldn't let U in without your best (or worst) nightwear on. So I strapped on da robe real quick and went 2 check it out. As seen, it was far from packed, but my boy kept the music rolling and there was plenty to eat and drink. To be real, the party could have been much doper if they had at least let the females that weren't dressed appropriately in. The ratio was pretty screwed, nonetheless I had a good time anyways. Enjoy

Doin It Up @ The Highlands

June 16, 2007

We had a good time at the Highlands. It was an event featuring Dilated Peoples. However, once we got in the spot they were already finishing up. We got there for the finale of the show, one of the usuals, "Worst Comes 2 Worst." At the time, the camera that I was using was on the wrong setting. I failed to notce at first, and the few pics I took of Dilated looked like hell, so I disgarded of them. The Highlands has a very nice view up top yo! Also, there are so many options. Up top, you got two DJ's in separate areas of the balcony. Downstairs, there is the main room where DJ Babu ripped it all night. That shit gets very packed and sweaty. I couldn't be in there for too long of a time. Then upon the main area is a middle area with some more music pumping. However, I can't recall if I saw a DJ there. It may have been a DJ for the back room, which appeared to be the spot for the "Hollywood" clubber. There were VIP areas in the corners that packed about 50 or so people. I met quite a few camera friendly people. I had no complaints about the Highlands. I normally would have more pics, but ran out of batteries halfway through the night. Blame that on me for not checking before leaving. Peace..enjoy. Holla at me if you see yourself!

April 4, 2007

This was one of those free Scion events. It was hosted at the Echo in Echo Park. We got there at a good time, just as it was filling up. This show took place in the lower section of the Echo. Rhythm Roots All-Stars started the show off and put on a real dope show. Then De La Soul came out and ripped the stage performing classic after classic..good times yo..

Redman @ Stacks Vinyl

Redman came to Stacks Vinyl in Cerritos a couple of months ago to promote his latest album, Red Gone Wild. He had a dope Q & A Session with a moderator and fans. As always, Reggie Noble was very open and candid and did not shy away from any questions asked. Also, the album is banging..cop it!
