How to shade
Hello everyone. :3 Fansara here. Here are 3 types of shading for oekaki beginners. ^^
ALL OF THESE WERE DONE ON PAINT BBS.
Blurred shading
This is the lineart for our picture we are going to colour. SPEND TIME ON THIS!! Don't rush it like I did! We want to make our pictures look as nice as possible. :3 THE LINEART MUST MUST MUST BE ON LAYER 1.

Now we have shaded our picture using water colours. Make sure you're on Layer 0 for this part. Also, your colouring must be over the lines so the colour doesnt mix with the white when we blur it. Don't worry, we'll be rubbing this out later!
Now about that shading...make sure you pick a darker shade of the colour you used to colour in your pic. You can also use the colour sliders (the R, B, G things) to make the colour darker. Or if you want, use the Darken tool!
Make sure to pick a lightsource - your shading will be opposite that. Then, shade away! :D

Now look at our picture. See anything different? We've smoothen (or blurred) the shading out. It looks much better now! =D After you've shaded your picture, click the "HalfTone" button twice untill you get something called "Shade Of" or "Blur". Move the setting on the slider beneath the 3 colour sliders to 255, and run it all over your picture. YOU MUST BE ON LAYER 0 ALONG WITH YOUR SHADING! And you will be able to see your picture shaded! Pretty cool, eh? But we still have a huge mess around our lineart!

Here I have rubbed out the messy excess of colour around my lineart. Still on Layer 0, use the "White" tool and rub out the excess, try not to go over the lines into the colour. And, viola!! You're done!
Solid/Cell shading

Solid or cell shading is very simple. You can do this type of shading on Layer 1, but make sure to mask the outline so don't go over the lines. To do this, just click the Normal button once, you should get Mask. Now we can begin our shading! =3 Go onto the Beizer tool, by clicking Freehand or Freeline twice. Now pick a darker version of the colour you used to colour in your picture. Now, mark out where you want your shading to be. Remember that lightsource! (Make sure you know how to use the Beizer efficiently so it looks neat.) Pick as many shades as you want - the more the better! Also, don't forget to do the highlights. And you're done! =D
Watercolour shading

For this, you can be on either Layer 1 or Layer 0. I prefer Layer 0 but if you're using Layer 1 remember to mask the lineart like I said before. Click the Solid button untill you get something that says "Watercolours" underneath the colour sliders should be the slider we used for our blurred picture. Move that to 1, and shade your picture. If there is any excess outside the lineart, just rub it out! ^^
I hope these helped you with your shading skills! Have fun!
