Arsenal

Arsenal:Could the dream become a reality

Arsenal are the form team in europe at this moment in time. With a notable led at the top of the english premier league and an fa-cup final place on the cards Arsenal have been a revelation. There dynamic style of football and va va voom have made them one of the most feared teams in europe and a historic trebel looks well within their grasp

Strenghts

  • Speed in every department - The current Arsenal team are one of the fastest sides in europe. Not only are a few of their players such as Reyes and Henry seriously quick but their speed of pass, thought and counter attack are also lightning fast
  • Mental resilience- Arsenal appear to have a strong sense of unity about them at the moment. They seem to be unphased by going behind early in matches and have even on occassion let the early setback act as a so-called kick up the backside. Last years catastrophic finish to the season has also made them stronger. The recent series with Chelsea epitomised this will power as on two occassions Arsenal found themselves 1-0 donw early on but managed to bounce back to win 2-1

Weaknesses

Weaknesses

  •  Quite a thin squad:- Arsenal could come undone if they hit a run of bad luck, in other words injuries. The squad looks rather lightweight compared to many of the other european big guns. This is especially the case up front and in parts of the defence. An injury to Thierry Henry would be catastrophic not only because he adds an extra dimension with his pace and power but because there is no real replacement. Jeremie Alliadere has shown glimpses of brillance to suggest he will be a future star. The same goes for  David Bentley however it would be asking alot to expect either of these two to make an immediate impact. The signing of J A Reyes has helped to ease some of the problems but it remains to be seen wether or not Arsenal can survive without Henry.

  • Disciplinary problems; Arsenal's disciplinary problems under manager Arsene Wenger are rrapidly reaching legendary status. The outbursts and ill-discipline that cost them so dearly last term is still a demon. Patrick Viera's stupid swipe at Ruud Van Nistelroy personified these problems. The game more infamously referred to as the Battel of Old Trafford demonstrated the fact that Arsenal may still be haunted by ill discipline.
