2010 COLORADO WEAVERS DAY: CONNECTIONS: May 15 2010 (Saturday), in the Glenn Miller ballroom at University of Colorado UMC at Boulder.  Handweavers Guild of Boulder is hosting 2010 Colorado Weavers Day:  Connections. 
The conference is being coordinated with the year-long exhibition at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History's exhibit of pieces from the Joe Ben Wheat Collection. Ann Lane Hedlund, who worked with Dr. Ben Wheat and edited his book on the subject, "Blanket Weaving in the Southwest" will be the lead keynote speaker. Dr. Hedlund is the Director of the Gloria F. Ross Center for Tapestry Studies and the author of numerous books on textiles, including, "Navajo Weaving in the Late 20th Century" and "Beyond the Loom: Keys to Understanding Early Southwestern Weaving."
An equally noteworthy keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Suzanne MacAuley, an art historian and ethnographer, at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Dr. MacAuley has studied textiles and textile making around the world. She is the author of "Stitching Rites: Colcha Embroidery Along the Northern Rio Grande." Her talk will focus on the importance of place in the creative process.
The afternoon will revolve around active learning through short, round robin mini-workshops in a wide variety of techniques.

BOULDER OPEN STUDIOS 2009: Oct 3 & 4, Oct 10 & 11 2009, noon-6 pm, always the 1st two weekends every October.  2008 INFO: Preview Exhibit of Artist's Work is Sept 12-Oct 12 2008 at the Boulder Public Library, 1000 Canyon Boulevard, Boulder.  Each participating artist has a work of art on exhibit at this Library.  Generally there are 12 or more fiber artists part of the Boulder Open Studios and it takes two days to see all the fiber studios.  Pick up the Guide Map (map and a 15 month Calendar includes a photo of each participating artist's work plus a Boulder Art Resource Directory) at the Library and other locations.    www.openstudios.org

THE THREAD PROJECT; ONE WORLD, ONE CLOTH: Not accepting any more threads.  Thousands of people from around the world sent a piece of ribbon, hemp, string, or other fiber to The Thread Project: One World, One Cloth. The collected threads were tied into a long strand called the Unity Thread, which was woven into seven world cloths.  These cloths celebrate the boldness of our cultural diversity and the unity of our human hearts. NAVAJO WEAVING: DIAMONDS, DREAMS, LANDSCAPES: Opening May 29 2009 at the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History.  Comprised of three separate iterations, each displaying twenty to thirty Navajo textiles, this exhibit will showcase nearly 100 textiles from the Museum's spectacular collection of rare Southwestern textiles.  The three iterations of the textiles will be divided into Diamonds and Beyond, Dreams, and Landscapes, each focusing on a different design element found in Navajo textiles.  RECENT TRENDS IN NAVAJO WEAVING (AND HOW WELL DID JOE BEN WHEAT PREDICT THEM?) MISSION of TACtile TEXTILE ARTS CENTER, a 503(c)3 non-profit arts and education center:
