City of Lynchburg Disabled Parking Fines

Thanks to the work of our Board Chairman Gary DuPriest and his work with the Lynchburg, Virginia Parking Authority to see that the Fines for Disabled Parking were raised from $100.00 to a more realistic amount of $250.00. Mr DuPriest has been working to see that the disabled in our Community are fairly treated. Mr DuPriest will work with your company to make sure that your business meets the ADA Reguations and that the ANSI 117.1 Rev 2003.

River Ridge Mall Accessibility      2012

Central Virginia Disability Association is presently working with all the stores in River Ridge Mall to see that each store has at least one electric door opener in one set of doors on every entrance to there stores. J.C.Penney, Sears, Belk, Macy's, .

Worked with the City of Lynchburg,VA to have fencing installed on the new Rivermont Bridge to help eliminate the possibility of Suicides from jumping off the bridge. Installed in August 2012.

   CVDA Raised 6,500 pounds of non-perishable foods to help the Lynchburg Food Bank and The Lynchburg Daily Bread to provide meals for the hungry and homeless. This was done in February and March of 2012.                    

                                 What's Next

Future projects include, but are not limited to:

-Conducting disability awareness and sensitivity sessions at local churches.

-Creating a computer training session for the disabled.

-Conducting emergency preparedness for the disabled, in collaboration with the American Red Cross, the LPD and LFD.

-Wheelchair fire safety courses.

-Environmental modifications in housing for the disabled, in conjunction with local contractors and builders.

-Examining the steps to restore General Relief to the City of Lynchburg.

-Classes on the ADA, the ADA Restoration Act of 2007, and further sensitivity training with businesses in Lynchburg.

-A training session utilizing "12 months of Preparedness Outreach, Awareness & Education Series" with area churches and schools.

-We hope to work with area groups to provide “around the home” services, including home and office accessibility assessments, ramp construction, widening doors and other needs, for both the newly disabled as well as for those who have years of experience.
