Since its inception CVAS has conducted annual Christmas Bird Counts, and monitored bird populations in the Chemung Valley of New York. From 1980-1985 and again from 2000-2005 CVAS conducted the New York Breeding Bird Atlas project for Chemung and Steuben Counies, in conjunction with the New York State Ornithological Association and the NY State Department of Environmental Conservation. The club purchased the Gleason Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary in 1989. Today the club boasts more than 800 members throughout the Southern Finger Lakes Region of New York and continues its active participation in conservation efforts.

New Feature!

I've added a feature to test your Birding ID.  Click on the link in the top menu Name That Bird!  Each week I'll add a picture of a new bird.  All will be pictures taken locally or at least in New York State.  If you think you know what it is then leave a comment on the picture page.  Don't read others comments first, thats cheating!!!  I will not promise the pics will be good, since good pics make ID easy.  Besides we dont always get "good" looks at the birds we see.  It's all for fun so have some fun.
