Message from CUPA Director
Thursday, October 12th, 2006
Dear 2006 CUUC Captains and Players,
Welcome to the 12th annual Canadian University Ultimate Championships!
Let me be the first to wish you all a great tournament! Also, let me
send thanks to everyone that has helped with the tournament so far: Tom
King (TD), Dee Roderique & Rick Dixon (CUUC Directors), Nick
Roberts (OCUA), Tourney Volunteers, and Team Captains.
As you all know, it has been quite wet in Ottawa this week and we are
expecting more rain on the weekend. Never the less, the show WILL go
on! But, there are some caveats. First off, the schedule has fewer
games than you might have expected – all teams will play 4 pool games
to determine seeding for the playoffs and then 2 or 3 playoff games
(depending on where you place in your pools). The intention is to
spread the games out over three days and to avoid the worst fields as
much as possible. Secondly, I would like to ask you to make sure to
“walk the field” after each game to flatten out any lumps and to
replace any divots. Thirdly, please be sure to stop all games and move
all players into cars if anyone sees lightning. After a lightning
delay, please wait at least 15 minutes after the last sighting before
restarting play. Fourthly (is that a word?), do make sure that everyone
has warm, dry clothing to change into during byes and after playing. It
will be cold and wet, and we don’t want anyone to get hypothermia.
Finally, let me apologize for the fact that I won’t be able to attend
the tournament. I would love to be there, but I have other commitments
on Friday and Saturday, and can’t justify the 10-hours of driving to
come only on Sunday. Have a great time and good luck to everyone!
