Nigel Shorthouse says...
Never been to speedway but would like to check it out as I live near Arena Essex and often go to banger racing there.
All my family are born and bred in the East end (Bow and Poplar) so used to go to the West Ham stadium almost every Saturday, my Mum still talks about going with my granddad in the 40's and 50's.
I've very interested in all things east London before the mass development of the late 1960's.
Wish the stadium was still there it would have solved the problem for 2012 and my beloved West Ham Utd.
Thanks for a great site all the very best.

For anybody intrested in the West Ham & East Ham area history, try the site www.Newhamstory.com. There is plenty on there including speedway (I made sure of that!). there is also a forum site on there. One of the items is on the forum is somebody asking for information on is about Pat & Colin Clark, and members of this site have been very helpfull in this.

Hello lovely people at West Ham Speedway
I am trying to find out some information about Don Taylor (Donald William Taylor) who raced during the thirties. I recently heard that he had an accident at some point and broke his back but I am not sure about the details.
If anyone has any information or is a relative I would love to hear from you.

Thankyou in advance!

Best wishes

Claudie

Very moved by the article on the Lokeren disaster, i had managed to get Martyn Piddocks autograph in the pits at Reading, and remember how nice he was to a young Racers fan and his mum! I remember being very upset at the time, and i still have the signiture, and have never forgotten that brief childhood encounter.

Paul
