More sad news, the passing of another West Ham legend Malcolm Simmons.
Malcolm was a another member of the hammers treble winning side of 1965 and was one of the main reasons the hammers were so successful that year. Malcolm left the Hammers for a heat leader position at Kings lynn and had reached his peak riding for Poole Pirates in the 70's . He would be considered one of England's greatest riders and was an automatic choice for the England team during it's most successful period in the sport. He has suffered Ill health for a number of years. My thoughts are with Malcolm's family and friends at this time.
RIP Malcolm thanks for the memories
THE funeral of former World No.2 and England captain Malcom Simmons will be held in Kent from 2.45pm on Friday (June 6).
Hundreds of Simmo’s former team-mates, speedway colleagues and supporters are expected to attend the Celebration of Life service at the Blue Bell Hill Crematorium, Robin Hood Lane, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham, ME5 9QU.
Simmo’s wife June said: “Simmo meant a lot to so many people throughout the world of grasstrack and speedway and we want to do his memory proud by giving him the send-off he deserves. I’d like to see as many there as possible.
“This is obviously a sad time for me and the rest of his family but we have been greatly moved and our spirits lifted by all the countless letters and messages received via social network sites from people all around the world. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support.”
Sad to announce on the 2nd May 2014 hammers favourite Tony Clarke passed away following a battle with cancer.
Tony was a member of the hammers treble winning side of 1965 and had his best year with the club in 1969 with a spell as heat leader and topped the hammers averages with 8.495 points. Tony made 17 international appearance's for England and Great Britain having an impressive tour of Australia and New Zealand in 1969/71 . Our thoughts go out to Tony's friends and family at this sad time. If you wish to pass on any messages of sympathy or you have any reminiscences about Tony, I have started a thread in the forum section. Tony's Wife is a site member and I am sure she would be happy if you shared your recollections of Tony.
Happy 80th birthday today (26th April) to hammers favourite Stan Stevens. Hope you have a great day and enjoy your celebrations with the family.
New Photos added to the Gallery and 1965 Score page being constructed. (March/April)
