The ideas I am currently concerned with in sculpture involve objects
that have interior spaces, invite viewers to enter the object and
become, in a way, part of the sculpture. These works function well in
a public context because they work as formal sculpture, and yet are
interactive. They also address contemporary issues of site specificity
and viewer engagement.
The pieces are inspired, in part, by civil engineering, and aim to
change the typical relationship of object and participant. By opening
the side of an abstract sculpture and creating an interior space with a
new set of spatial experiences, the viewer gains a new perspective.
Establishing architectural space with a form not found in architecture
is one of my goals. From the outside, you can't see what is inside;
inside you lose track of what is outside.
