ANEMIA

 Firstly, avoid drinking tea and coffee immediately after meals as they interfere in the absorption of iron from the food. Juice of beetroot (chukander) taken 2-times daily is an excellent remedy for anemia especially for children and teenagers. If it is not possible, soak 12 currants (munnakas) in water overnight. Remove seeds and eat them regularly in the morning for minimum 4-weeks.

 ACNE :

Orange peel is very good for treating acne. Grind the peel with some water to a paste and apply on affected parts. When oranges are not in season, you can use a powder of dried orange peels. If it is not possible, make a paste of sandalwood (chandan) powder and turmeric (haldi) powder, taken equal quantity, in a little water and apply on affected parts regularly for a few days.

APPETITE LOSS :

Mix equal quantities of carom seeds (ajwain), fennel seeds (saunf), dried ginger powder (sonth), blak cumin seeds (shahi jeera) and salt and make a POWDER. Mix a teaspoon of this powder in a teaspoon of hot ghee and add to cooked rice . Have this concoction as frequently as you can. If not possible, cut 1 piece ginger (adrak) into small pieces. Add 2-cups of water. Bring to a boil and then let it simmer for 2-minutes. Add milk and sugar to taste, and take it frequently like tea.

 ASTHMA :

Firstly, avoid citrus fruits (sour fruits), cold foods, ice-creams, deep-fried food, milk and milk-products, as milk products cause phlegm (balgam) and lead to congestion in the lungs. Figs (anjeer) are known to give relief by draining the phlegm (balgam). Take 3-dry figs, wash them well with warm water. Soak overnight in a cup of water. Eat them first thing in the morning and also drink the same water for at least 3-months. At the same time, mix one teaspoon honey with half teaspoon cinnamon (dalchini) powder and have it before going to bed at night.

BALDNESS :

Boil one cup mustard oil (sarson ka tel) with four tablespoon henna (mehendi) leaves. Filter and bottle. Massage on the bald patches regularly once a day for 3-months. If it is not possible, grind fenugreek seeds (methi dana) with water and apply on the head. Leave it for at least 45-minutes before washing. Do it every morning for minimum 3-months.

 BAD BREATH :

Chew a piece of cinnamon (dalchini) put in a betel leaf (paan ka patta) for a few days. If it is not possible, boil some cinnamon (dalchini) in a cup of water and store it in a clean bottle in your bathroom. Use it as a mouthwash frequently.

BLADDER STONES :

Boil 2 figs (anjeer) in one cup of water. Drink daily (two times) for a month.

BODY HEAT :

Add 2 to 3 drops of almonds (Badaam) oil to pomegranate (anaar) juice and drink twice a day for a few days.

BURN :

Spread a thin layer of honey over the burn and cover with a dressing. Repeat this regularly every two hours till it heals. If it is not possible, Mash a ripe banana (kela) and apply on burns and bandage with betel leaves (paan ka ptta).

BOILS :

Slightly roast a big onion on a naked flame. Mash it and mix in teaspoon each of turmeric powder and ghee ( if prepared from cow's milk-better). Apply and tie a bandage. If onion is not acceptable, apply a watery paste of ginger (Adrak) powder and turmeric (haldi) powder (ratio should be 1:1) on the boils.

There is a growing tendency to indulge in sexual intercourse and avoid its consequences by adopting contraceptive appliances. Childrens'  genital organs may get irritated by dirt and filth accumulated about them and a sense of relief from friction by rubbing may lead to very vicious habits. Sometimes children learn improper behaviour from playmates. It is necessary for the elders to take precaution that children do not acquire this filthy habit. Taking light food, going to bed at least three hours after taking the last meal, cleanliness of body, proper exercise and cold bath are all necessary adjuncts. Rich and spicy food excites the senses and should be avoided. The reading of books, the seeing of scenes and hearing of stories which excite animal passions, should be carefully avoided. The toxins should not be allowed to be accumulated by over-eating or irregular eating. As regards women, mothers should teach daughters to keep the parts clean and free from irritation due to accumulation of dirt and secretion. The future mothers of nation should know that the very basis of their character as daughter and sister, as wife and mother is undermined by tolerance of any form of sexual offenses. They are by nature capable of great restraint and they should increase their restraint manifold when the craze is for self-centered and shortsighted enjoyment.

COLIC IN BABIES :

Boil a teaspoon of fennel seeds (saunf) in a cup of water. Boil for 3-minutes and keep it to cool for 15-minutes. Strain. Add one teaspoon to every feed of milk of the baby. It helps cure colic.

COLD :

A lemon a day keeps the cold away. For a bad cold, the juice of two lemons in ½ a litre (2½ cups) of boiling water sweetened with honey, taken at bed time, is a very effective remedy.

DEAFNESS:

Instill 2-drops of lukewarm neem oil inside the ear daily for a few days. OR, Use raw onion juice as ear drops.

DIARRHEA:

Combine one teaspoon each powdered ginger (adrak), powdered cumin (jeera) and powdered cinnamon (dalchini) with honey and make into a thick paste. Take one teaspoon of paste thrice daily. If it is difficult to prepare this paste, drinking a very strong cup of unsweetened black tea is very effective for stopping diarrhea.

DEHYDRATION:

Add ¼ teaspoon salt, 3 teaspoon brown colored sugar or ordinary sugar and 2 teaspoon lime juice to one cup of water, mix well and drink 3-4 times a day.

DEHYDRATION DUE TO DIARRHEA :

Soak half a nutmeg (jaiphal) in 2-cups of water for over 2-3 hours. Take one teaspoon of this infusion and mix in one cup fresh coconut water. Drink twice or thrice a day.

DIABETES:

For diabetes, diet restriction & light exercise like walking is a must as this controls the sugar level. Use the following fruits and vegetables sparingly and with caution : dry fruits, mango, raisins (kishmish), potatoes, jackfruit (kathal), carrots (gajar), peas (matter), beans, sweet potato (shakarkand) & beetroot (chukandar). Milk & nuts intake to be restricted to the minimum whereas have plenty of curds and buttermilk. Avoid all refined foods & sweets and drink 10-12 glasses of water daily. Dry the leaves of deshi-mango tree in shade. Powder and preserve them. Half a teaspoon of this powder twice a day in the morning and evening for a few months proves beneficial. If these leaves are not available, eating 10-fresh fully grown curry leaves (kari patta) every morning for 3-months is said to prevent diabetes due to heredity factors.

EYES STRAIN DUE TO TV WATCHING :

Boil ½ teaspoon fennel seeds (saunf) in a cup of water till it is reduced to half. Cool . Use as eye drops (beware of contamination).

FATIGUE :

Take a glass of grapefruit and lemon juice in equal parts to dispel fatigue and general tiredness after a day's work.

FAINTING :

A hot poultice of carom seeds (ajwain) used as dry fomentation for hands and feet ........... O.K.

FEVER :

Grind a few roots of the Deshi Mango tree into a fine paste and apply on the palm and soles of the patients. If the root of mango-tree is not available, a neem leaf decoction should be taken with pepper powder which lowers temperature.

FEET CRACKS :

Mix the juice of bottle gourd (lauki) and sesame oil (til ka tel) in the ratio of 4:1 and heat till all the moisture has evaporated. Bottle and use over cracked skin. If this preparation is not available, mix equal quantities of glycerin and lemon juice and store in a glass bottle. Apply every night before going to bed.

FEET SMELL :

Brew two tea bags in 500 ml (2½ cups) of water for 15-minutes and pour the tea into a container containing 2-litres of cool water. Soak feet for 20-minutes every day until the smell disappears.

 FLATULENCE :

Soak 3-tablespoon carom (ajwain) seeds in an adequate quantity of lime juice and dry in the shade. When fully dried, powder with a little black salt. Take 1-teaspoon of this mixture twice daily for a few days with a little warm water.

GASTROENTERITIS :

A decoction of 15-20 tulsi leaves taken along with a pinch of rock salt (kal namak) helps in the cure.

GIDDINESS :

Soak cumin seeds (jeera) in lime juice overnight. Keep this mixture under the sun till completely dry. Bottle it. Chew ½ teaspoon of this mixture and drink with a glass of warm water.

HEADACHE:

Roast some carom seeds (ajwain) dry on a tawa. Tie it in a muslin bag and sniff frequently. A paste made of dry ginger (sonth) with a little water or milk when applied to the forehead also gives relief. If you feel that the headache is due to exposure to cold air, mix 1-teaspoon finely ground cinnamon (dalchini) in 1-teaspoon water and apply on the affected parts. For one sided headache for a long time, powder equal quantities of liquorice (mulathi) and cumin (jeera) & mix. Take ¼ teaspoon of this mixture twice,every day, along with 1-teaspoon honey for a month.

HICCUPS :

Keep a teaspoon of sugar in your mouth and suck slowly. OR, Grind 4-cardamon (chhoti illaichi) well & boil it in ½ litre water. When about 1-cup water remains, remove from fire and sieve it through a muslin cloth. Let it cool. When warm, drink it. ......... works like magic.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE :

Firstly, restrict salt intake and drink plenty of water.Fruits such as mausami, orange, peaches (aaru), plum (aloo bukhara), watermelon (tarbooz) are also beneficial. Rest, relaxation and good sleep are effective in keeping B.P. under control.

Drink curry leaves (curry patta) juice initially 3-times a day (1 glassful) for a month or two and then reduce to only once in the morning on empty stomach. For taking out juice : Fill your mixy with washed fresh curry leaves, add ¾ glass water, churn well and sieve, add the juice of ½ lemon and drink fresh. If juice of curry patta cann't be prepared, regularly intake single pod of garlic (lahsun), first thing every morning. If you get discomfort with having garlic (lahsun) first thing in the morning, have 2 cloves twice a day - swallow with water any time or with meals for a few days.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL :

Regularly intake single pod of garlic (lahsun), first thing every morning. Still, if you get discomfort with having garlic (lahsun), regularly intake coriander (dhania) decoction made by boiling 2-teaspoon dry seed powder in one cup water. (Milk and sugar may be added to improve its taste.)

HUNGRY FEELINGS :

If a person has a feeling of empty stomach always ( even after taking proper and sufficient diet regularly), he should take 2 to 3 custard-apple (sharifa) after meals.

INDIGESTION :

Boil 5-6 sticks of powdered cinnamon (dalchini) in a glass of water. Add a pinch of pepper powder and little honey. A tablespoon of above concoction taken ½ hour after meals relieves indigestion and flatulence (gas). Or, Add 1-teaspoon fresh grated ginger (adrak) to one cup water. Cover and simmer on low heat for 5-minutes. Strain and drink twice a day.

INSOMNIA :

Add 2-tablespoon of honey to a big cupful of water and have it before going to bed. (Babies generally fall asleep after having honey). Or, A cup of warm milk sweetened with honey should be taken before going to bed every day.

INTESTINAL WORMS:

Take 8-10 seeds of bitter gourd (karela) and crush them. Fry them in little ghee. Take twice or thrice daily for a few days. Or, Take 1-teaspoon raw turmeric (haldi) juice, mixed with a pinch of salt first thing in the morning for a few days.

JAUNDICE:

Make a fine paste of tender papaya leaves. Take about ½ teaspoon paste, with some water, thrice a day for a few days. If it is not possible for you, finely grind some bel leaves. Take 1-teaspoon of this paste along with a pinch of black pepper and follow it with 1-cup of buttermilk thrice a day. OR, Make a fine paste of 3-tender leaves of sacred Pipal tree (Bo-tree or ficus religiosa) with a small quantity of sugar candy (Mishri), mixing a few drops of water. Take thrice a day for one week.

JOINT PAINS :

Firstly avoid milk, buttermilk, coffee, tea, alcohol, smoking & processed foods and exercise the affected joint every day religiously.

Take lemon juice in a glass of hot water (as hot as you can drink) and drink it, 8 to 10 times a day. Initially for a few days you might feel that the pain is increasing but gradually it decreases. If you believe that sour things are bad for joint pains, though it isn't true, regularly take 3-4 walnuts (akhrot) on an empty stomach in the morning.

KIDNEY MALFUNCTIONING:

Frequent intake of coriander (dhania) tea : boil 2 teaspoon coriander (dhania) powder in a glass of water, add sugar and milk to taste. Add more almonds (badaam) to the daily diet.

LACTATION:

Frequently, cook unripe papayas (kacha papita) and eat & take ½ teaspoon finely ground cinnamon (dalchini) every night along with 1 cup sweetened milk. OR, mix together 1 teaspoon each cumin (jeera) powder & sugar and take with warm milk after dinner every day for a few days.

LOOSE MOTIONS :

1- Take a cup of Luke warm water & rinse ginger juice in it and 4 tea spoon and drink slowly slowly after every 15 min, it will stop your worst loose motion immediately. If you are running loose motion you can put juice of ginger on ur navel (just pore with the juice of ginger) it will stop immediately your loose motion in 6 hours.

2- Firstly, drink plenty of water to which a teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt has been added to guard against dehydration. For children, ripe & sweet apples crushed to a pulp (can be steamed) and given as 3 to 4 tablespoon several times a day. A strong unsweetened black tea is very effective, take 2 to 3 times.

LOW BLOOD PRESSURE :

Crush 10 to 15 basil (tulsi) leaves to a paste and squeeze out the juice through a muslin cloth. Mix with 1 teaspoon honey and have everyday. OR, Add ¾ cup crushed liquorice (mulathi) root to 4 cups cold water and allow it to stand for two hours. Then bring it quickly to a boil and steep for 5 minutes. Add this to the bathwater in the tub.

MALARIA :

Go to your kitchen and take salt ( which is in daily use), heat it until it is converted from white to brown colour. Grind it finely & keep in a glass bottle. A malaria patient should take 1/2 teaspoon powder with water when the body temperature is very high. Again, when the temperature falls down, he should take 1/2 teaspoon powder with water. These 2-doses are enough to get rid of malaria. If necessary, it may be repeated.

MEMORY IMPROVEMENT :

Prepare a mixture of 1 teaspoon honey and a pinch of finely powdered cinnamon (dalchini). Take it every night regularly for a few months. OR, Mix 1 teaspoon each amla root powder and white sesame seed (safed til) powder. Add 1 teaspoon honey and eat every day for a few months.

MOUTH ULCERS :

Mix some coconut milk with honey and massage the gums 3 to 4 times a day. If the coconut milk is not available, Mix the pulp of a ripe bel fruit with jaggery (gur) and eat early morning on an empty stomach for 3to 4 days. OR, take juice of a few red ripe tomatoes and gargle 3 to 4 times a day.

NASAL CONGESTION:

Crush a fistful of carom seeds (ajwain) and tie up in a cotton napkin and place it near the pillow. This method is especially advisable for children. OR, Put 1 teaspoon cardamom (chhoti illaichi) seeds on burning coal and inhale the smoke.

NERVOUSNESS :

Apply fresh lime juice on head. Massage well before showering off. OR, Steep 1 tablespoon mint (pudina) leaves in 1-cup water for 30-minutes. Drink the infusion, do not boil.

NOSE BLEEDING :

Drop lemon juice in nostrils. OR, Use juice of fresh coriander leaves (dhania) as nasal drops.

NOSE BLOCKAGE DUE TO COLD :

Make a very fine powder taking equal quantities of cardamom (chhoti illaichi) seeds, cinnamon (dalchini), black pepper (kali mirch) and cumin (jeera). Sniff this powder frequently to induce sneezing.

NOSE RUNNING :

Rub a nutmeg (jaiphal) on a smooth grinding stone along with some cow's milk. Apply this paste on forehead and nose.

OLD AGE PROBLEMS :

Boil 1-teaspoon ginger (adrak) in 1-cup water till reduced to ½ cup. Add to it ½ cup cow's milk, 2-pieces of cardamom (chhoti illaichi), 5-strands of saffron (kesar) and 1-teaspoon sugar. Drink every morning.

PILES :

Pour 1-tablespoon lemon (nimbu) juice in a glass of warm milk & drink it immediately, once in the morning. Don't repeat for more than three days. OR, Wash 3-dried figs (anjeer) very well & soak in a glass of cold water overnight. Have it first thing in the morning. Similarly, have figs in the evening that have been soaked in the morning. Taking them regularly for one month gives beneficial results. It is effective in ordinary as well as bleeding piles.

BLEEDING PILES:

Take a dry coconut having hairs and burn those hairs and make the ash of it. Then sieve the ash and take half tea spoon with 2 spoon full curd empty stomach twice a day for two days to cure the bleeding piles. It should not be taken more than two days. This is 100% effective remedy to stop the bleeding from piles.

Why Constipation?

Constipation means irregularity in, or absence of, bowel movements. The slow movement of food through the large intestine and the amount of time the waste remains in the colon are factors that contribute to constipation. More and more water is absorbed while the waste is in our body and the stool becomes drier and bulky thus more difficult to pass. Home remedies can help in relieving constipation.

Regular bowel movement is necessary to remove waste and toxins from the body. Some people will have movements every day, some others 3 times a week, this is normal, although some doctors consider a person moving bowels less then once a day to be constipated. 
Home Remedies for Constipation are a very powerful natural way of returning the balance to the body.   

Constipation can be cause by lack of exercise, too much junk food, poor diet, painkillers, antidepressants and/or pregnancy. CONSTIPATION : Elderly People

Take 2-guava fruits (amrood) & cut it into pieces. Mix them with a pinch of sonth ( dry ginger powder), kali mirch (black pepper powder), white rock salt (saindha namak) & eat first thing in the morning on empty stomach for a few days

CONSTIPATION: Small Children

Soak 6-8 raisins (kishmish) in hot water (depending on the age). When cool, crush well and strain. When given routinely even to little infants, it helps to regulate bowel movement (however care should be taken - so as not to give too much otherwise the child will get loose motion). Bulk forming vegetables like carrots, radish, spinach, cabbage or roughage creating things should be consumed. Instead of juice, opt for eating the fruits.
