new interview with Michael Welch at Buzznet

200908141559.jpg There’s a new interview with human pal Michael Welch from New Moon at Buzznet. They asked him some questions on the minds of fans, including–

Jolene Tangerine: What do you think would be your vampire power if you had one?

Michael Welch: Well that depends. Can I create a new power or do I have to choose one that already exists? If I could make my own, I would either want to fly or shoot lasers out of my eyes! Oh yeah. If I had to pick one that already exists, I would either want to see into the future like Alice or be a BA tracker like James. I know I’m not supposed to, but I love James.

SydneyAlex: How much like Mike are you? Hopeless romantic?

Michael Welch: Oh yeah, very much so. Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies if that’s any indication. The fulfillment of love is more important than the excitement of fling.

Check it all out at Buzznet.

Twilight Teen Choice Awards

A seat filler at the Teen Choice Awards wrote up an extremely detailed account of her experience at the Teen Choice Awards last night. Among the revelations were a list of things she learned at the Teen Choice Awards–

  1. Robert Pattinson is hilarious. (technically, I already knew that, but I was proven correct)
  2. Nothing impresses Kristen Stewart (except for Robert Pattinson)
  3. Taylor Lautner is bigger and has whiter teeth in person.
  4. Nikki Reed loves Ellen Degeneres
  5. Kellan Lutz is so huge that it’s almost scary

The seat filler, Sara, was also quite impressed with Robert Pattinson last night, of course!–

Catherine wouldn’t keep her hands off of Rob! She always had a hand on him! Either on his chest of his arm or his leg! Ew! Rob would not stop talking! The guy wouldn’t shut up! The only reason I know this is because I was watching him instead of the show. It sounds creepy, but I don’t care. He kept talking and talking and talking! Not only that, he was making jokes! Kristen and Taylor were cracking up at things he said. He laughed with them and, let me tell you, the world becomes a better place every time that man smiles.

See the rest of Sara’s report over at TwiFans.

Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson accepted the “Hottie Awards” at the Teen Choice Awards. After Megan Fox said her thing, she said she was going “shut up so you can all look at Robert Pattinson”.

For his part, Robert Pattinson said

Pattinson, who helped the “Twilight” crew win 11 awards on Sunday, took to the mic in his gracious and awkward manner to announce that if the fans think he’s hot, the feeling is mutual. “Thanks, guys. I really appreciate it,” he said. “I have to say that the hottest hottie, the hottest teens are the ‘Twilight’ fans. And thank you to Stephenie Meyer and the usuals.”

Robert Pattinson Talks About Being Single and His Heart-Throb Status

robert_pattinson300aIn a  interview with the UK edition of OK!Magazine. Robert Pattinson talks about his New Moon co-star, Kristen Stewart. Addresses relationship rumors, and talks about being Edward Cullen -

Did you have any idea what you were in store for when you signed up for Twilight?

No way. I read the script and I barely even knew that they were books too. The only reason I went to the audition was to see Kristen, because I’d just seen Into The Wild.

Are you saying you had a little bit of a crush on her?
Of course! No, we are just very good friends.

But there have been a lot of rumours about you two…
I know – but honestly, we are just friends.

Do you have a girlfriend?

No, no. I am young, free and single.

What do you look for in a lady?
I like people being forward. Gosh, I don’t know. I like strong people, chiselled abs… I don’t know, I take what I can get!

What is the hardest part of being Edward Cullen?
Probably trying to be scary when you’re supposed to be looking pretty at the same time.

Does it worry you that you may always be cast as a heart-throb?
I’m so surprised things have worked out the way they have, I just keep thinking the whole time, I don’t really have the right personality to fit in to that kind of role.

If you could live forever, like Edward Cullen, what would you do?
Probably learn to speak French. Or I might spend three weeks straight with no sleep learning the piano. You’d get really good at stuff because you would have time to do everything.

You have said that Edward is a little obsessive – are you surprised that girls think of Edward as the most perfect boyfriend ever?
It’s weird, but girls always seem like that. Being a guy, you always just look at girls and think, why are you with that guy? With virtually anyone the nice guys always seem to come last.

You can read the rest of the interesting interview here.

UPDATE: This was published online via OK Magazine (UK) on Monday, Aug 3rd, 2009. We have no way of knowing if it is new or not. However, since it has been very slow the last few days with RPattz news. Thought this may keep the Team Edward/Robert fans happy : )

Harry Potter is no match for the Twilight Saga

stephenie-meyer-chairUSA Today reports that Harry Potter is no match for the Twilight Saga -

Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the teen-vampire romance series, entered the list at No. 1 on Aug. 2, 2008. Its sales and those of Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse, the first three books, have remained staggering.

This week, Meyer’s novels are Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 7 on USA TODAY’s list.

Rowling, overall, has sold more books than Meyer — her seven-book series about boy wizard Harry Potter has 143 million copies in print in the USA, while Meyer has sold 40 million copies of her four books. But Rowling can’t match Meyer’s control of the list.

Breaking Dawn and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the two authors’ fourth installments, entered the list at No. 1, but Meyer’s series has had more staying power.

The Twilight books have stayed in the list’s top 10 for 52 consecutive weeks. They held the first four spots a total of 13 weeks in the past year.

Rowling’s first four Potter books were top 10 for 13 consecutive weeks, 24 weeks total, for the first year after Goblet’s publication and held the first four spots for two weeks.

Breaking Dawn broke the first-day sales record for publisher Hachette at 1.3 million copies.

Based on aggressive marketing of Meyer’s series, this November’s release of the film version of New Moon and the upcoming holiday gift-buying season, Twilight books could dominate the list well into 2010.

Top 10 Sexy Smiles – Jackson Rathbone is #1

teenvogue_14According to a recent poll on TheInsider.com. The Twilight boys held 4 out of the top 5 spots -

5.)Robert Pattinson: Everything about him invites you in, his smile is certainly no exception.

3.)Taylor Lautner: Does his being half naked bother me? Nope, but his mouth does tend to draw my attention.

2.)Kellan Lutz: His teeth, his lips, his dimples, I don’t see how anyone couldn’t appreciate that mouth. WOW.

My number one spot goes to the guy I consider to be the epitome of beautiful, and soulful.

1.)Jackson Rathbone: For me, there is no sexier mouth on the planet. His smile reaches his eyes, and it’s contagious.
You can’t look at him grinning, and not do the same in return.
Every time I see his mouth turn up at the corners, I can’t help but smile extremely wide, and say “Awwwww” (Yes aloud, don’t judge me.) *laugh*

I certainly do agree. His is sexy, but I do have to say, in my opinion, Taylor should be #2 then Dr. Cullen #3 and Kellan #4....but all in all most guys have sexy smiles, a guy that smiles is just sexy itself

New Moon author Stephenie Meyer comic book

Stephenie Meyer Female Force Comic Book Twilight

New Moon author Stephenie Meyer joins the ranks of Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama and Princess Diana with her very own comic book. Reelz says that

The bio comic will examine Meyer’s rise to popularity with the Twilight Saga novels, the movie franchise, and her plans for the future. We have it on good authority that the story will be narrated by a very recognizable and iconic vampire. (We’re guessing it won’t be Lestat.) An alternate 40-page collector’s edition will also include a history of Forks, Washington.

Bluewater Productions, the publisher behind the Female Force series, aims for the comics to offer “a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture.” Stephenie Meyer’s comic book treatment will “tell her story in a very fun, respectful, and unique way,” says Bluewater’s President Darren G. Davis.

The comic is now available for pre-order for $7 and will ship in October!

Ashley Greene Talks About Kissing Kellan Lutz

kellan-lutz-ashley-greene-2009-mtv-movie-awards-twilight

Ashley Greene gets to lay a wet one on Kellan Lutz for their upcoming movie Warrior. And we are all jealous!

Ashley was interviewed by Celebuzz at this years Comic-con. When asked if it was awkward to kiss Kellan because they play siblings in the Twilight Saga Movies, Ashley responded:

“No, it wasn’t, because Kellan and I know each other so well, it was kind of a no-brainer. And again, we’ve already got this kind of chemistry, so no it wasn’t hard at all,” Greene told us. “I was kind of wondering about that because he is one of my very close friends, and we definitely have a platonic relationship, so playing romantic, I was wondering if it was going to be hard or easier, but because we are already so comfortable with each other it was actually less awkward than kissing someone I didn’t know.”

I don’t think I would have a hard time doing that either. I mean its a job, someone has to do it right?!

Comic COn

Twilight New Moon Comic-Con More than 500 Twilight fans are camping overnight in a line so they won’t miss that New Moon panel in Hall H at Comic-Con Thursday afternoon.

The most dedicated fans started lining up two days early just to make sure they could get a front row seat to see Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and other stars of the movie. As the final night before the big panel begins now, there are already more than 500 people camping out to attend the most anticipated panel at Comic-Con.

Aura Reynolds and Liberty Griffen nabbed the first spot in the long line by getting here Tuesday night at 9 p.m. with their daughters Rebecca and Kristen. Their yellow and blue tent marks the beginning of rows upon rows of tents, chairs and blankets that form the twisting line outside Hall H, where the panel takes place at 1:45 p.m. tomorrow. The landscape looks like a giant family picnic, with bright-colored folding chairs and sleeping bags littered with black Twilight T-shirts and banners.

Check out the spontaneous celebration over at MTV, including an informal poll on what fans are hoping to see tomorrow during the exclusive New Moon footage. (Hint: It starts with “Volt” and ends with “I”)

After the break, check out a report from reader Ashley, including a pic of the Volturi Throne they are showing off at Comic-Con!

Twilight Brings Star Trek-Like Frenzy to Fan Conventions

200907221027.jpg CNN has a new article where they explore aspects of Twilight fandom, and they’ve done their research: they admit that it’s not just tweens that are TwiHards:

Something about the “Twilight” series causes a thirst that can’t be quenched. Despite the fact that the next book in the saga is on hold and the next film, “New Moon,” won’t hit theaters until late November, fan conventions have been going strong all summer in cities across the nation.

And if you think it’s just the tween crowd behind this, think again.

TwiTour, a weekend-long celebration, sounds like it would be reminiscent of a high school pep rally: raucous cheering with scads of teenage girls. But while there was plenty of screaming at the July 12 TwiTour in Atlanta, there were also plenty of women and a sprinkling of men who were unashamed that they were way beyond high school.

“It’s the pure innocence of newfound love,” explained 36-year-old fan Kimberly Hunt, who’s not only read all four books, but also the 12 unfinished chapters of “Midnight Sun,” a novel from the view of main vampire Edward’s perspective, that are up on Stephanie Meyer’s Web site. “Chivalry’s dead, and you don’t see it anymore. It takes you back to the days of your first love.”

Kristen Stewart Look-a-Like in Mexican Comic???

Bella Swan Kristen Stewart Mexican Comic Book Mi Mejor Amiga Libro Sentimental

How’s this for weird? A Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan lookalike appears in a new issue of the comic book a reader found at a Mexican grocery store.

My guess? Either the artist was lazy and decided to trace the picture of Bella, or they consciously made the character look like Bella to sell more issues.

View Point Inn in Oregon for Sell??!!

200907091215.jpg

Twilight’s memorable prom scene was shot at the View Point Inn in Oregon, but the owners are going to sell the property as they can’t keep up with the costs of restoration.

KPTV has the story, where the owners give the government of Oregon a tongue-lashing for failing to woo the crew of the Twilight sequels back to Oregon. New Moon and Eclipse are going to be filmed in Vancouver, BC.

ROBERT DUMPS KRISTEN FOR EMILIE

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart may be destined to be together as Twilight’s Edward and Bella, but fate seems to have something else in store for them in real life. Life & Style can reveal exclusively that Robert has ended his relationship with Kristen and is dating Emilie de Ravin, the leading lady in his new movie, Remember Me.

“Robert met Emilie a while ago and has always liked her,” says an insider close to the heartbreaker. “He’s the one who suggested to the producers at Summit [the same production company responsible for the Twilight series] that she’d be perfect for Remember Me. In the original screenplay, her part was written for an actress of Mexican descent.”

“I watched them filming on July 2, and they got along very, very well,” an eyewitness tells Life & Style. “At one point between takes, they stopped into a shop to get a drink together; they seem to like each other a lot.”

The two have also gotten cozy after hours. On June 14, as Life & Style previously reported, Robert and Emilie met up in a secluded garden area of the Bowery Hotel. “The connection between them was electric,” says another eyewitness.   Then things turned serious, according to the eyewitness: Robert’s Twilight co-star Elizabeth Reaser (who plays Edward’s mother, Esme) joined them, and when Emilie admitted she was worried about how her kissing scenes looked on-screen, Elizabeth told her, “However you kiss Rob in real life, just do that!”

Touring Forks, Washington and Quileute Land in LaPush!

In Washington state's scenic northern Olympic Peninsula, you can find "Twilight" body glitter for $2.99. "I Love Jacob" Christmas ornaments for $11.99. Four different daily tours of "Twilight" destinations for $39 per person. Even a "Twilight" sparkling wine.

It's what you would expect from ground zero for the global phenomenon/vampire love story. As publicity ramps up for "New Moon," due out in November, locals in Forks, Wash., also known as Bella's hometown, are girding for visitors.

But drive seven miles west to La Push, and the roar of the marketing machine turns to a dignified whisper. The home of the tiny Quileute Nation (pronounced QUILL-ee-oot) sits on a square mile of land on the Pacific Ocean, boasting an unspoiled view of the sometimes stormy, often misty beaches.

The setting for much of "New Moon" and subsequent books, real-life La Push is a stripped down, back-to-nature experience. Giant, weathered logs litter the beaches. The tribe-owned resort offers rooms from $45 to $300, with no TVs, no phones and spotty WiFi. The sound of the surf is a constant companion, and it's easy to imagine Bella finding peace and refuge here with her werewolf friends.

"Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer chose Forks after Googling for the rainiest place in America and was pleased to find the Quileute nearby.

Locals marvel at how much she got right, but the economically depressed reservation is ambivalent about "Twilight" and how its 350 residents should capitalize on it. Compared to Forks, where visitors can pose with Bella's truck and participate in a "Twilight" look-alike contest, the reservation is cloaked in centuries-old anonymity.

"There are mixed feelings," says tribal council member Anna Rose Counsell. Over the last three months, the tribe has struggled over what to do. "This is a phenomenon that is happening whether we like it or not."

Tribal leaders hired a p.r. pro, Jackie Jacobs, in February after being inundated with "Twilight" inquiries. The tribe opened its Wednesday night drum circle to all visitors, which recently included two families of "Twilight" fans.

At the tribe-owned Oceanside Resort, director Renee Rux says business is up 30 percent, thanks to "Twilight." "It's been huge for us," Rux says. The resort recently partnered with a charter boat company to offer "Twilight" tour packages for $250.

At the moment, the shop stocks few "Twilight" souvenirs, including hand-knit hats emblazoned with "Bella," "Jacob" and "Edward." Another holds $8 bottles of sand, labeled "Jacob's Treasure."

Rux, a non-native, retrained the staff to reach out to visitors. "That's the paradigm shift," she says. "People [now] want that experience of being with the Quileute."

A hospitality industry veteran, Rux promised to add $1 million to the resort's $2 million in revenue when she was hired last September. It's just not clear how much the Quileute people want to share their culture for profit.

Hospitality is an ingrained part of their culture, but elders are worried about building a tourist economy. They fret about how their creation story is portrayed in the book. The tribe says they were changed from wolves to humans by a traveler. Meyer took literary liberty, enabling them to change back at will in an eternal battle against vampires.

"This is our opportunity to educate people on Quileute history," Counsell says.

At the Wednesday drum circle, artist and grandmother Ann Penn-Charles works up a sweat in the kitchen while a group of men sing traditional songs. More than 75 people have come on this night for the tribe's free dinner and music.

Quileute artists take pride in harvesting their own materials, whether it's raw animal sinew for a drum or cedar bark for baskets. Penn-Charles says she's felt judged by some tribal members because she knits the names of "Twilight" characters into traditional cowichin hats. They sell for $50 at the resort store, or $25 directly from her.

"They're resentful. They think we're selling out," Penn-Charles says. "It's not. It makes your car payment, or those braces your kids need."

The tribe has hired a business developer, Justin Finkbonner, who also spearheads a crusade to market Quileute and other native artists.

"We have so many talented artists here, so many untapped," Counsell says. "They don't know how to market."

In Forks, Chinook Pharmacy owner Chuck Carlson, agrees. He's seen a 20 percent jump in business thanks to "Twilight" merchandise, but the store only carries one Quileute craft -- tiny hand-woven cedar baskets that sit behind a glass case and sell for $49.

"They need to take more advantage of what's going on," Carlson says. "I don't think they understand how to do that."

In particular, he feels the tribe should profit from the tour buses that rumble through the reservation. "I would be saying, 'Hey, you're coming down here, you're making a lot of money off us. You need to share some of that profit.' "

The tribe is now talking about working with tour operator Dazzled by Twilight. Its evolution as a business likely will only grow as the rest of the books are made into movies. In later books, the Quileutes' role becomes nearly as prominent as the Cullens'.

Fans of La Push hope visitors who come for "Twilight" will learn to appreciate the area's natural allure. That could help connect the Quileutes to more sustainable tourism, such as fishing trips with a Native American guide, kayak rentals and eateries focused on fresh seafood that will attract culinary tourists.

Tribal publicist Jacobs practically scoffs at questions about what the Quileutes will do once "Twilight" fades.

"The Quileute have traced their ancestry to the Ice Age," she says. "One day, 'Twilight' will go away and they will continue being the hospitable, welcoming people they've always been, practicing the culture they have been practicing for tens of thousands of years.

"Once 'Twilight' is gone, the Quileute will be fine."

* light" scenes. St. James Island is in the distance.

* The Quileute Nation, based in La Push, is ambivalent about embracing "Twilight" tourists.

* Tribe members lead visitors in traditional dances at their community gathering.

* The Forks, Wash., house that serves as Bella's home in "Twilight" is a regular stop for tours.

* In the Forks Hospital parking lot, fictional vampire doc Carlisle Cullen gets his own spot.

Ashley Greene Interview With Nylon Mag

200906101531.jpg

Nylon Mag has a new interview with Alice Cullen New Moon vamp Ashley Greene in their newest issue. It’s also available partly online, including these interesting bits–

On Rob Pattinson’s fame: “Oh God. Poor Rob is already a Beatle. His whole life is documented. If he picks his nose, it’s all over the Internet. He’s just done for. I think he’s kinda freakin’ out, like, ‘What the fuck is going on?’”

But she gets chased by paparazzi, too: “You don’t want to have your picture taken when you’re coming out of a club all wasted. It’s tough… I get a call from my mom in the morning, and she says, ‘So I see you went out again last night.’ I might as well have a GPS chip in my skin, but no, I have the Internet.”

What It Would Look Like If Rob and Kristen Were Dating

Rob and Kristen Hug

I’ve not covered the Robsten rumors that some of you may have heard about recently on purpose, but I’m sure a lot of you have heard all the talk of the possible dating scenarios involving Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Whether or not such a thing is happening is anyone’s guess, but I thought this photo manipulation of the duo gives a good approximation of what the couple might look like if they were public with their affection.

Cam Gigandet's New Movie!

Twilight bad boy Cam Gigandet is starring in the lead role of a new movie called Five Star Day . Here’s the official200906051003.jpg description–

"Screen Gems has set Lisa Kudrow, Alyson Machalka, Thomas Haden Church, Patricia Clarkson, Stanley Tucci, Penn Badgley (”Gossip Girl”), Cam Gigandet (”Twilight”), Malcolm McDowell and Daniel Byrd to join Emma Stone and Amanda Bynes in “Easy A,” the Will Gluck-directed comedy that begins production June 9."

Stephenie Meyer #26 on 2009 Forbes Celebrity 100 List

Stephenie Meyer ForbesNew Moon author and queen bee Stephenie Meyer hit #26 on the 2009 Forbes Celebrity 100 List which measures the pay, web presence and press notoriety of celebrity figures. She was tagged as a $50 million earner, and Forbes said–

"Thanks to the success of Meyer’s Twilight series, 2008 became the year of the vampire. The low-profile author sold 29 million books last year, releasing two new novels (Breaking Dawn and The Host) and selling hoards of paperbacks of what have become instant classics (Twilight, Eclipse and New Moon). Last November, gothy fans camped out to catch the first film based on the series; Twilight grossed $70 million opening weekend. A partial rough draft of the fifth Twilight book leaked online last August; Meyer published the full draft on her Web site and announced the book wouldn’t be published."

ROBERT’S BEST FRIEND: WHAT HE’S REALLY LIKE

Sam Bradley co-wrote the song “Never Think” on the Twilight sound track, is playing Dallas ’ TwiCon festival in July and had New Moon cast members cheering him on at his recent Vancouver , British Columbia , concerts. How did this British rocker, who played three sold-out shows at LA’s Hotel Cafe in May, get sucked into the Twilight zone? “Robert was the new kid when I was 12, and I showed him around school,” Sam reveals to Life & Style. The boys became fast friends, later getting a flat together in London , where Sam looked forward to Rob’s expert beans-and-toast making. “He’s very well-rounded,” Sam dishes. “Rob is a really great cook. He’s extremely friendly, very outgoing, very intelligent, very well-read. He loves writing. He’s really talented.” So talented that Sam tapped his pal to contribute to his upcoming album, co-writing tracks influenced by the duo’s families, travels — and loves. “Rob goes for intelligent, experienced-in-life girls,” he tells Life & Style. “And any chance I can get, I would love to be having a romantic meal with a lady.”

Paramore was up for an MTV Movie Award this weekend for the song “Decode” from the Twilight soundtrack, but they lost out to Miley Cyrus and her Hannah Montana movie.

I CAN"T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!! THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SHOW!!!!!!!!!! And to think out of all the Twilight charactors it's sexy Jackson Rathbone!!!! AHHH!!

First Look at Jackson Rathbone on

 Set of Criminal Minds

Jackson Rathbone Criminal Minds Jackson Rathbone Criminal Minds

Jackson Rathbone has been spotted filming his episode of Criminal Minds, which the Auseillo Files reported on back in February–

Someone better make room on the crowded Twilight bandwagon, ’cause Criminal Minds is jumping on.

The CBS procedural has tapped Jackson Rathbone — a.k.a. Twilight vamp Jasper Hale — to guest star in an upcoming episode directed by Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander.

Rathbone will play a college student on spring break who may or may not be the target of a serial killer.

His episode is slated to air in April.

I’m not so sure he looks like a “college student on spring break” here–more like a maintenance guy, or handyman?

UPDATE: Donna shares that the episode will be on this Wednesday, April 8th at 9pm on CBS!

Ashley Greene's New Dog

Ashley Greene DogNew Moon star Ashley Greene has a new addition to the family—a white toy fox terrier. Ashley says it was love at first=sight–

“She was meant to be mine,” gushed the 22-year-old actress, who plays the pixie-like vampire Alice Cullen in the popular series, of her new puppy, Marlow. “I wasn’t looking for a dog, and I happened to see her picture online, and I was like, ‘I have to have that dog.’

The lucky canine in question – a white Toy Fox Terrier – spent the evening in the lap of luxury as Greene lovingly cradled her throughout much of the For Joseph launch party at the new Kitson Melrose in West Hollywood. The twosome even posed for photos with Greene’s fellow on-screen vampire, Kellan Lutz – Marlow showing her excitement by alternating between dozing and shivering

IS ROBERT PATTINSON THE SEXIEST MAN ON EARTH?

He’s scrawny, famously scruffy and his hair goes everywhere. But there’s more to Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson than meets the eye. Life & Style bites into the top five reasons why the shy, artistic hunk behind brooding vampire Edward Cullen gets pulses racing!

1. LIFE’S IMITATING ART

Fiercely loyal and protective, Edward’s undying love for Bella Swan captured the hearts and imaginations of Twilight readers everywhere. So Robert, 22, knew he had a lot to live up to when he signed on for the role of the perfect man (actually, vampire) in the movie version of the best-selling novel.

2. HE’S A CREATIVE CUTIE

Such soulfulness comes with being a natural — and passionate — actor, singer and musician. “Rob wasn’t trained at drama school in quite the same way as a lot of people,” Oliver Irving, who directed Robert in the new movie How to Be, tells Life & Style. “He’s much more real.”

3. THE BRIT FACTOR

Despite speaking with a flawless American accent in Twilight, this hottie hails from across the pond. “I miss the smell of London ,” Rob laments. “I almost cried because I missed it so much.”

4. HE’S SO MODEST

But if Rob’s to be believed, he doesn’t have much luck with the ladies. “No one wants to commit,” he complains. “I guess I’m not really a chat-up-line guy.” Part of the problem? “Rob’s kind of shy,” explains co-star Kellan Lutz. “He’s such a humble guy.”

5. JUST LOOK AT HIM!

“He’s a good-looking guy,” co-star Ashley Greene tells Life & Style. Kristen Stewart, who plays love interest Bella, agrees. “He’s pretty sexy,” she says. His unkempt hair is a huge part of his attraction. “He never stops touching it,” says Kristen. “People love that.”

Washington State Law May be Enacted Due to Twilight

Washington Twilight Law Are you bummed that the sequel to Twilight, New Moon, won’t be filming in Washington state, like the original? Due to the revenue lost, a state Senator is trying to pass legislation–Washington Substitute House Bill number 2042–to make sure that other productions like New Moon won’t move to Vancouver or elsewhere–

The Seattle PI (see Pillow Biters) claims that state Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles, a Senate Democrat in Washington, was miffed by the fact that, even though The Twilight Saga: New Moon’s literary setting is in the Olympic Peninsula of the United States, it is presently filming in British Columbia (Vancouver), Canada.

The Act provides that all money received for the establishment of a motion picture competitiveness program will be diverted to such avenues as health insurance payments on a retirement plan and a tax credit marketer to promote the state’s tax credit programs, as well as administrative costs.

Hollywood's Hot for Robert Pattinson

In recent weeks, Twilight star Robert Pattinson’s been spotted with a bevy of beauties, prompting the question: Who exactly is the vampire dating? He’s been linked to co-star Kristen Stewart, Natalie Portman and even Paris Hilton! “I keep getting asked if I’m dating Rob, and the answer is no,” Paris Hilton tells Life & Style. “Yes, I did meet him at a party, but that’s it.” And while Rob may have been acting single, he did allude to a mystery woman recently at the Palihouse hotel. “I like her a lot,” he said softly about the mystery woman, according to the eyewitness. “She’s really great.”

It's Official: 'Twilight' Costars Stewart and Pattinson Are Not (And Were Never) Involved

Kristen Stewart and Robert PattinsonThat's right. There's a collective sigh from all the Twilight fans around the country. After months and months of speculation (and dreaming), Kristen Stewart finally cleared things up in an interview with Nylon. Her and costar Robert Pattinson are not, and have not ever been together. Although their chemistry is sizzling on-screen, off-screen the pair are just “good friends” and any rumors about them are “just totally false.”

While many teen magazine body language experts were analyzing every single moment the two spent together, she explains, “It's only natural that we sort of lean on each other, because we're put in the most f***ing psychotic situations.” It's no doubt that the Twilight fandom is intense. Screaming fans, shut down mall tours, and general pandemonium has swept the nation since July of 2008 at Comic Con. ““Anywhere we'd go for Twilight was a psychotic situation," she said. "The sound was deafening, and it's thoughtless, as well. It's so manic that you're just pushed and pulled around.” I definitely gave Kristen Stewart some flack for her strange interview habits when I compared her to Vanessa Hudgens in Who's the Better Teen Queen. Evidently, the incessant interviews took a toll on Stewart's calm, cool, and collected demeanor. “You get a slew of all these bulls*** questions like, ‘What's it like to kiss a vampire?' and ‘How much do you love Robert?'” Stewart explains. “Then you'll get one that's actually real, but you're like, ‘No, I can't right now — I can't even consider…'”

Whether or not she's ready to, Stewart's going to have to go through the whole process again as New Moon is set to start filming in a couple of weeks. New Moon will get a November 2009 theatrical release and then Eclipse is set to be released in June of 2010. So, it'll be all Twilight all the time for Ms. Stewart and her “good friend” Robert Pattinson.

For those fans still unaware, or still holding out for a R-Pattz / K-Stew hook-up, Kristen is currently very happy with her long time boyfriend Michael Angarano. In 2004, Stewart and Angarano met when they co-stared in a Lifetime original movie called “Speak” and started dating two years later. Angarano is 3 years Stewart's senior.

Hopefully, you're not too saddened by the news. At least we can still be glad that Stewart and Pattinson have killer chemistry onscreen as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen. I'm sure what little screen time they'll get to spend together on New Moon will be as hot as ever. And, on the bright side, that means Robert Pattinson is definitely still single. Good luck ladies.

Vogue.com feature story

How did a suburban mother of three become the next big thing in publishing with her chaste-but-erotic Twilight series? Robert Sullivan meets Stephenie Meyer.

Photographed by Jonathan Becker.

She may prefer to write late at night while her family sleeps, but for the record, there is not a lot about Stephenie Meyer, author of the better-than-best-selling Twilight series, that screams vampire. Yes, she has long dark hair and earthy brown eyes, casually highlighted this afternoon at her home in Arizona by a black Banana Republic cashmere sweater and jeans, but she lacks the arrogance associated with vampireness. Her vibe is homey; she sits you down on her living-room couch, one leg curled up under her, and starts talking as if you had been in the midst of conversation for years. She's surrounded by her sons' toys, games, and compasses (her husband is a Cubmaster), as well as her work—her office is in the front hall. There are family photos and a few paintings of the Washington coast, where Twilight takes place. The Phoenix neighborhood where she lives, a kind of desert suburb, is the opposite of the Washington coast, and lately she and her husband have been taking their three boys (ages six, eight, and eleven) on vacation to the Seattle area once in a while, to see green. "It's nice to show them that there are places where things are alive," she says.

During the day, she might go to the deli down the street for lunch with her husband ("I'm obsessed with the Greek salad," she says), but she's mostly just around—running errands, picking up the kids, hanging out, which in her case means fielding calls about scripts and producers and interviews. Even in a year in which she is theoretically taking a break from promotional activities, the Twilight industry is booming. She cranks out chapters and reads them aloud to her boys, whom her husband takes care of if she has to go on a book tour or take a meeting in L.A. "I'm a hermit, basically," she says. "I'm just that kind of person." It's not that she has to get back to her coffin before dawn; Meyer is a homebody—even, sometimes, a procrastinator. She never gets out to movies, and it takes her a while to watch them. "We bought The Dark Knight when it came out, and I know we will watch it someday," she says. If Law & Order is on TV at her house, forget writing. "I can't move until it's over," she says. "If it's a marathon, the day's gone."

As much as she has brought glamour to the lives of teenage girls with her Romeo and Juliet-with-blood lust story, the glamour she surrounds herself with is decidedly unglamorous, unless you are a boy, that is—the backyard is an aspiring athlete's paradise. Inside, the kids' playroom is actually played in, though Meyer fights her sons on having to buy the absolute latest video game, indicating to them that their heads will not explode if they do not get it. "The idea of enjoying something you already have has been lost," she says. For her, happiness is being at home or attending a Little League game or the elementary school band concert. She believes this is what success in writing has given her, a kind of luxury that would not be listed as an asset by the IRS. "Luxury for me is getting to take care of your kids," she says.

Yes, she will show up at a star-studded opening of her own film, mugging with the actors more like a schoolgirl than the creator of this gothic juggernaut, and yes, she clearly loves her fans (mostly girls), but the very thought of her own success can make her a little queasy. Just about a year ago, on the set of Twilight—a film even the studio had modest hopes for but that eventually was a phenomenon, like everything else Meyer has touched since she suddenly appeared on the scene four years ago—she watched dozens of people re-create the cafeteria she had imagined as the lunchtime home of her heroine, Bella, and Bella's problematic suitor, Edward Cullen, who is older than Bella by a century or so, as well as undead and living with a large family of vampires. "I suddenly realized that all of this was happening because I wrote a story down," she says, "and it made me a little sick to my stomach."

It's only when she waves goodbye to her husband and son and jumps into her Infiniti that a reader familiar with Twilight's hunky vampire would quickly notice something a little Edwardesque about the 35-year-old author—she drives like Danica Patrick on her day off. "I like to drive," Meyer says. As she exits the dirt road that runs through her desert neighborhood, her foot is on the pedal like teeth on a neck. She is cranking her iPod on the car stereo, a tune by Muse, a band that is exactly that to Meyer. She is not breaking the law, but the law should be a little nervous. "My husband sold our coupe," she says, "and I was so mad."

As far as writing goes, she is certainly cruising, driving in a fast lane that few authors ever make it to. Meyer has sold a gazillion copies (actual number, 28 million), so that it sometimes seems as if the interiors of Barnes & Noble are built not with bricks and mortar but with the phone-book-thick volumes of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and, of course, Breaking Dawn, the latest book in the series, which alone sold 1.3 million copies on the day it was published last summer. And while she is a mom at home, in the publishing world Meyer is a superhero, an author who can make publishers feel a little better about an industry that is repeatedly described as being zombie-like, all but passed away. "It just gives you a lot of hope for the future of this business," says Megan Tingley, her editor at Little, Brown. (The real hope being, of course, that she's the next J. K. Rowling, who has to date sold in excess of 400 million books.)

And that's not even getting to the films of Meyer's novels. Teenagers stood in line for days all over the country to help the movie version of Twilight gross $70 million in its first weekend last November, after having been made on the relative cheap ($37 million, compared with, say, The Dark Knight, which cost about five times that). New Moon is currently in production. And all for a couple of characters that—literally—came to Meyer one night in a dream. "It's an uncomfortable kind of power," she says. "It's not like, Aha! Now I am going to take over the world! It's like, Really? Are you sure? I'm constantly waiting for someone to say, 'You are on Candid Camera. You've been punked!' "

We cruise through a town called Carefree, a beautiful place with dry, boulder-covered hills and forests of streetlight-tall cacti, and Meyer pulls into the parking lot of the Horny Toad, an old-style Western saloon, a little embarrassed—her husband had been hyping the burgers to this reporter. "Try the torpedo!" he was saying, torpedo being Arizonan for a pepper-infused burger.

"I guess this is what people think of when they think of Arizona," Meyer says. She orders the saloon's Caesar and recounts her life pre-Twilight.

She was born Stephenie Morgan in Hartford, Connecticut, her father a finance guy who named her after himself—Stephen plus an "-ie." By the time she was four, the family, who are Mormon, had settled on the outskirts of Phoenix. She is the second of six children, three girls and three boys; she thinks of her family as The Brady Bunch, sans Alice, the maid. The neighbors kept horses on their suburban Arizona lots; her family built huts, bike paths, a paintball range. "It was a free-for-all land," she recalls. "Later, my brothers made it a lot more weaponized."

Books were to Meyer as war games were to her brothers. "I was the bookworm," she says. A childhood memory: her father, in the hall between the bedrooms, reading them not kids' books but, according to his writer daughter, "the books he wanted to read." Specifically, Tolkien-like fantasy, such as The Sword of Shannara, the 1977 epic by Terry Brooks (soon to be a motion-picture series). Her father would read a little, knocking off at bedtime. "The next day I would hide out in his closet with the book," Meyer recalls, "feeling like I was doing something wrong, like I wasn't supposed to sneak ahead." Her mother was more nineteenth-century. "She was the one that had the Austen in the house," Meyer says. "The reason I'm obsessed with the love side of any story is my mom. I always evaluate a story on relationships and the characters."

She won a National Merit Scholarship in high school and studied literature in college, at Brigham Young, where she enjoyed writing papers on Shakespeare but stayed away from creative writing, for fear of potential criticism. "It's not 'You didn't write that paper on Jane Austen so well,' it's 'What's going on in your head? You're a crazy person!'" In college she married Pancho Meyer, whom she first met when she was four. His real name is Christiaan, but he was nicknamed Pancho as a kid on a whim, believe it or not, by his grandmother. "It's not even a good story," Meyer laments. After a stint working as a receptionist at a real estate office, she became a stay-at-home mom upon the birth of their first child, developing a phobia about her kids and swimming pools. "I'm a very neurotic mom," she says. "My kids could swim when they were two. There are so many drownings around here. That's one of my personal nightmares."

Her phobia is the reason she remembers it was on the day of the kids' swimming lesson that she woke up with a dream reverberating in her head. It was a vampire dream. She had not dreamed of vampires before, had not been reading about vampires. To this day, she has not figured out why vampires; she's not a horror person, which is clear when you meet her, though she has always loved superheroes—she's a Batman girl. "I like that he's not so clean-cut, that he has a dark side, that he's doing things that are not clearly legal or illegal," she says. And let's face it, a vampire—especially the star Twilight vampire, who is good-looking, incredibly fast, strong, and smart—is a sexy superhero, Batman with some bite. From her Web site: "In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately."

With a little Internet research, the meadow became the woods outside Forks, Washington, one of the rainiest (and thus potentially most vampire-friendly) places in the United States, and the two people became Isabella "Bella" Swan—a teenage girl who had moved to Forks from Phoenix—and Edward Cullen, vampire. It took precisely three months of typing, late at night, her husband wondering what was going on at the computer. She shared pages only with her older sister. "What if it was completely stupid?" she says now. With her sister's encouragement, she sent it to an agent, where it landed in a slush pile, where an assistant found it. It was then sent to Tingley, senior vice president of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers—Little, Brown was seeing a trend emerging for horror books featuring young women. After reading it on a plane to California, Tingley was offering a three-book deal, which terrified Meyer. "I was just totally bowled over," Tingley says. Meyer had been hoping to pay off her car and ended up with a $750,000 advance. For her it's a dream come true in terms of youth-reading interest. "Books are a big entertainment deal for teenagers now—that's the coolest thing in the world," she says. "What an amazing gift for me that someone could say, 'I read now.' "

One thing you learn quickly if you spend a day with Stephenie Meyer is that she doesn't so much write stories as transcribe them; they are playing in the multiplex that is her mind's eye. "I've been an editor for 20 years, and I've never worked with a writer who speaks of their characters as if they are so completely real," Tingley says.

"I had always told myself stories my whole life and assumed that everyone does," Meyer says. "You know, it's funny; in Jane Eyre, which is something I've read 40 million times, there's this scene where she shows Rochester her paintings. And she explains that in her head it was so different. And Rochester replies that she captured just a wisp of what she was seeing. I used to paint, and I won a few watercolor contests, but I could never get it to look exactly like it did in my head. But with writing, I discovered I could get it to look exactly like it did in my head."

Which is why Twilight, especially, as well as its sequels, is not a horror book but a good old-fashioned romance. There are vampires, and they are wicked quick and excel in killing animals in the woods, which assuages somewhat their hunger for teenage humans. But that's mostly offstage. Twilight takes place in a teenage fermata, an emotional arena that is, for many young girls, simultaneously imaginary and absolutely real. And the boy, by the way, is completely intoxicated with the girl. The courtship is everything, a prolonged ecstasy, because once consummated, the relationship will change, like, totally.

"The sexual tension that she's managed to sustain is just incredible," says Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the movie. "You've found your soul mate, and that the person who you are in love with and who is in love with you could kill you—even better!"

"I think that the reason the books were that way, unintentionally," Meyer says, "is because I miss those days of ten and thirteen when a boy looked at you, and oh, my gosh, you could talk about it for two weeks because he looked at you funny. 'What does that mean? What is that about?' Everything was analyzed."

To her great credit, Meyer knows she is not Gertrude Stein. "I'm not a professional yet," she says. "I'm still just an amateur." But she knows her audience like Nielsen. "A twelve-year-old girl has already in her head imagined out fourteen different lives, including if she gets married, if she doesn't get married, if she falls in love with someone who lives in Paris," Meyer says. Indeed, one might argue her authorial success has something to do with her being surrounded by non-girls. "I live in a house filled with testosterone," she says. "There's always sports on my television, and there's nothing except hockey and scooters, and there's nothing of that side of myself left, and so it's great to have a different place to find it."

Her authorial power is also changing her relationship with her readers; where there was once a manageable number of E-mail correspondents, now she stands before oceans of fans. And as she has changed from underdog—mom writing with a baby on her lap—to Superauthor, the press has begun to wonder about her, most frequently citing her religion and speculating as to whether the Twilight series has something Mormon up its sleeve. Meyer says her religious faith is part of the fabric of the book the way it is part of her. "When you grow up with something your whole life, it influences your work," she says. Regardless, the books are by no means tracts. If they are supposed to be undercover lectures on abstinence, as critics sometimes imagine, then Meyer accidentally made them a little too titillating, though she is, theologically speaking, enthusiastic about where her characters end up—specifically, the way they, as she sees it, take control of their lives rather than allowing the world to dictate control. "Like the idea of freedom of choice—that there's no place that someone can put you that you can't choose a different way," she says, speaking like the Sunday-school teacher she is.

A more interesting and controversial story is the fifth book in the Twilight saga, a version of the first book told from Edward's perspective. It was leaked last year by a source still unidentified onto the Internet, all but about six pages. It was a huge blow. "Now I'm over it," she says, "but I feel really distanced from the project. It was oddly devastating." Although she is currently taking a break, she may continue the Twilight story, but she seems wary of books in series. "I'm experiencing, I think, a little bit of stage fright at this point." This past spring, Little, Brown published The Host, her first adult novel, pure science fiction, in which a woman is taken over by another consciousness—two souls in one human. It, too, was (and, like all her books, remains) a best seller—debuting at number one. For Meyer, the subtext was body image. "I'm not critical of others, but I am very critical of myself," she says. "When I was working on this, I had to imagine what a gift it is to just have a body, and really love it, and that was good for me, I think."

Returning home—fast—Meyer finds the boys are out, her assistant gone. She may be to the publishing economy what Detroit was to the U.S. economy in the fifties, yet she runs her show like a kitchen-table business. One of her brothers, an optometry student, is in charge of her Web site, which means that if a film company wants their representatives' statements posted on stepheniemeyer.com, they can't just snap their fingers. "Somebody will want something done right away, and it will be like, 'No, it has to wait. My brother has a test,' " she says. "It's a small business for me still. I mean, people don't understand; it's just a little family thing. I couldn't deal with it if I didn't keep it small. It freaks me out."

Inside Robert's Twilight House

Twilight fans didn’t exactly get the grand tour of vampire Edward’s house in the movie. Shortly after ladylove Bella arrived, the vampire (played by Robert Pattinson) flew out of his bedroom window with her! But Life & Style can now reveal what some of the other rooms at Cullen House look like.

“The house actually belongs to John Hoke, vice president of global footwear for Converse,” the house’s architect, Jeff Kovel of Skylab Architecture, tells Life & Style. “It was very exciting to see it in the movie. They may use the same house in the sequel.” The 4,896-square-foot home is located in Portland , Ore. “The goal was to create one of the most unique homes in the city,” he says. “It was a challenging site. It’s a steep hillside with a triangular lot. We wanted to create a dramatic building.”

Mission accomplished! In fact, the Twilight producers liked Kovel’s work so much, they inquired about some of his other designs. “They were filming and moving to Vancouver and asked if we had any projects up there,” he says.

'Breaking Dawn' release much anticipated in Forks

By Chris Cook - Forks Forum editor

“Twilight” fans by the hundreds are flocking to Forks.

Tourism promoters and local retailers are saying the town of Forks

is now a main attraction, no longer a sidelight, a place to dine and

stay for visitors to the Hoh Rain Forest, or Pacific coast.

The town has a unique, fictional and non-fictional identity that’s

being established around the world through the Twilight mania.

The next milestone in this movement comes as the phenomenon is

beginning to have a noticeable financial impact on the economy of

 Forks.

This week in the world outside the West End hundreds of thousands

of the fans are anxiously awaiting the Aug. 2 release of “Breaking

Dawn,” the fourth and final (maybe) volume in the Forks and

LaPush-set, internationally-best selling young adult book series.

Local stores are gearing up to mark the release of Breaking Dawn,

which is set to go on sale at precisely 12:01 a.m., Sat., Aug. 2.

On Twilight fan Web sites announcements of Breaking Dawn events

show themed costume balls, major radio station tie-ins and more

from coast to coast.

In Forks retailers up and down Forks Avenue are benefiting from the

attention the book series has brought to the rural town.

Bruce Paul of Forks Outfitters said his family’s store is seeing a lot of Twilight visitors, and that other retailers are reporting similar boosts to their businesses. He said Forks High School Spartan gear is selling well, as well as Twilight-themed T-shirts the store has created, and a selection of Twilight books.

The Thriftway side of Forks Outfitters is prominently mentioned in the book series as the grocery store where main characters shop. On Saturday, fans sitting in cars displaying homemade Twilight signs could be seen snacking in the store parking lot. The site has become common place over the past six months.

All four of the books are top-sellers on Amazon.com. However, buying a copy in Forks makes copies of the books sold here something special, said Joanne Allen, owner of the Fern Gallery in downtown Forks.

She said the Twilight fan activity in town has helped boost tourism in a summer of high gas prices. There are noticeably less motor homes on the road going through town, Allen said.

The gallery owner said she plans to open her store one minute past midnight, then possibly reopen at dawn to mark the “Breaking Dawn” in Forks.

“I can’t even show the book to employees,” she said due to a non-disclosure agreement retailers must sign.

“People are already e-mailing the chamber about the event,” said Allen, who plans to serve cookies. “It should be an action-filled night in Forks.”

Allen is bringing in new Twilight-related products including totes and fleece shirts. One product popular with Twilight visitors is her exclusive selection of Forks Spartans T-shirts produced by the ASB at Forks High School, with all proceeds going to help the students.

On the south side of town, the Forks Chamber of Commerce is serving as the Twilight gateway for visiting fans.
Chamber Executive Director Marcia Bingham said Friday that on many days this summer between 100 and 120 Twilight visitors are stopping at the Forks Visitor Information Center on South Forks Avenue. About 90 percent of the visitors are Twilight fans and accompanying family and friends.

An Australian visitor told Bingham she wouldn’t have put Washington state on her travel itinerary if it wasn’t for Forks and Twilight.

Watch for a 1953 Chevy pickup to be permanently parked in the visitor center parking lot. City of Forks Councilman and Sully’s restaurant manager Bruce  Guckenberg is working on the project, and is having the vintage pickup painted a burgundy red to match a similar pickup driven by lead Twilight character Bella.

Visitor center manager Mike Gurling has created a series of Twilight trivia quizzes that are proving fun for visitors, and becoming collectables.

On Saturday at the opening of the Forks Skate Park Guckenberg related his own Twilight tales. He said an Australian visitor was overheard calling back home on her cell phone, proudly saying she was in Forks and beaming off a cell phone photo of the Sully’s Bella Burger sign.

Guckenberg said on one recent day he sold over 75 of the Bella Burgers, going through cans of the pineapple slices featured on the burger.

He said the steady stream of Twilight visitors have provided a noticeable boost in business.

The Subway restaurant in the Evergreen 76 station is also selling a special Twilight-themed sandwich, and JT’s Sweet Stuffs has candy vampire teeth and other Twilight items.

Chinook Pharmacy, Pura Carlson is staging what her staff is calling the “Midnight Party” to celebrate the release of Breaking Dawn in the wee hours of Aug. 2.

“We are contributing to the excitement,” Carlson said.

Her party plans hinge on the weather. Chilly means hot cocoa, hot will bring out the Twilight punch.

Carlson said anything with the word “Forks” on it is selling. A new T-shirt design is on the way, aimed at Breaking Dawn fans.

Her products include a Twilight scone mix that comes in a reusable vampireish black tote bag.

Chinook Pharmacy is on their second composition book of Forks fans comments. They include notes from a Scottish grandmother who came into the store with her son and two granddaughters. The elderly Scot told the Chinook Pharmacy staff that her trip to the United States was likely her last one. “You pick,” the lady had told her granddaughters?anywhere in the world you’d like to go,” and the girls chose Forks.

Package tours are also on the way. Bingham said the University of Washington Bookstore has paid for seats on the Twilight Tour as prizes in a drawing coinciding with the release of Breaking Dawn in Seattle. The grand prize includes a stay in Forks.

The Breaking Dawn event is likely just a warm-up leading up to the release of the movie version of “Twilight,” the first novel in the series and the book that put Forks on the teenage romance fan list. The movie starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson is scheduled for release on Dec. 12. Posters for the film are on the walls of multiplexes across the country, an ad for the film appears in NetFlix wrappers and a trailer for Twilight the movie is being included in recent DVD movie releases.

There’s no word yet about a Forks premiere showing and related events, but you can bet there is already interest in Forks and out of town.

The next milestone in this movement comes as the phenomenon is beginning to have a noticeable financial impact on the economy of Forks.

OMG! Twilight Starlet Hating on Pattinson's Buzz Cut

Robert Pattinson

 WENN

Ashley Greene still thinks Twilight star Robert Pattinson is "totally adorable," but she's not thrilled he cut off his signature long locks.

"I heard he got in trouble for cutting his hair," Greene, who will return in the much-anticipated Twilight follow-up, New Moon, as vampire beauty Alice Cullen, told us last night at the In Style/WB Golden Globes afterparty. "But what can I say? I like guys with longer hair."
She promises not to raz the British hottie too much about the new 'do.

"I think he's getting enough flack, I'm sure," she said. "I mean his every move is recorded and photographed and documented, so I'm not going to give him a hard time."

Greene says she and the rest of the cast couldn't be happier that new director Chris Weitz has re-signed Taylor Lautner as Jacob.

"Everyone loves him," Greene said. "I think it's absolutely ridiculous to think that someone could replace him." (Lautner continued his quest to beef up for the role by downing ravioli and lasagna from Bertolli Oven Bake Meals on Friday at Access Hollywood's "Stuff You Must..." gifting suite).

Taylor Lautner

A New Moon script is still being finalized, but Greene says she's been assured by people in the know that Weitz & Co. aren't straying far from the novel. "They're keeping it fairly close to the book, which is great for me, because if you read it, I'm definitely in it," Greene said. "It's difficult to put that large of a book into a screenplay and put it on film and capture what everyone's thinking. It's difficult, but they're trying their best."

'Twilight': Will the Movie Be a Hit?

Will fans find the film true to the novel? Will

even one male go see it? Will the filmmakers

get the go-ahead to make ''New Moon''? What

does Stephenie Meyer think about all this?

Some answers to these burning questions

rob-cover-twi_dl
TWILIGHT Early tracking suggests that tween boys like the Cullen vampires (Robert Pattinson, pictured on one of three EW Twilight collector's covers) almost as much as girls do
<script type="text/javascript"> if ( ew_queryVariableExists( 'commentsPage' ) == 0) { commentsPage = 1 } if ( ew_queryVariableExists( 'print' ) == 0 && (commentsPage == 1 || (commentsPage > 1 && 1 == 0) )){ tiiQuigoWriteAd(760767, 1291707, 320, 180, -1); } else { // alert( 'Skipping Ad = 320, 180' ); } </script>
The last thing the filmmakers behind Twilight want to hear is that their movie is the next Harry Potter. Sure, it occupies the release date once held by the boy wizard. But while the seven-book Potter series has sold 400 million copies and generated $4.5 billion in worldwide box office receipts, Twilight is working off a global fan base that has purchased only 17 million books. ''We're not even 5 percent of Potter sales. We're not even a toenail on that body,'' says director Catherine Hardwicke. ''Ours is a character film, a little more sophisticated teenage Romeo and Juliet.''

But Twilight is likely to be anything but a tragedy for Summit Entertainment, the fledgling studio behind the film. So far in the company's 18-month history, it has released five movies, with nothing grossing over $25 million; some, such as Sex Drive, have been outright failures. Twilight — a possible four-film franchise — could transform Summit into a real player. To hit it big, though, the vampire romance needs to lure moviegoers beyond the series' core fans. Teenage boys are an obvious target, and Hardwicke has peppered her film with gravity-defying fight scenes. ''There are action sequences in the book, and as a director, you want to make everything more cinematic,'' she says.

Early tracking of the movie suggests that tween boys like the Cullen vampires almost as much as girls do. That should help Twilight reach at least a $20 million opening weekend — the number the studio probably needs to please in-house accountants. What it requires to greenlight the sequel, New Moon, is another story. Summit won't comment, but Hardwicke guesstimates Twilight must gross $150 million for the studio to approve a follow-up, which will require extensive special effects and location shooting. ''This has to be a crazy hit,'' she says. ''Nobody can say that it can do that well right now.''

Except, maybe, Stephenie Meyer. The author loves the movie, though she had her disagreements with Hardwicke. ''I mostly stepped in on the script level,'' she says. ''You know the line 'So the lion fell in love with the lamb'? It's a bit of a cheesy line, I have to say. They had changed the wording on that, to downplay it a little. And I said, 'I really like how you've changed this, but this line is tattooed on people's ankles. I think you're going to have a problem if you don't do it exactly right.' And they listened to me — and saved themselves the outrage of the people who know these books.''

After seeing the first cut, the author's only real concern was that Edward and Bella's steamy kissing scene was too hot for the beginning of a relationship. ''You're not going to have anything to work with as the series continues,'' Meyer told Hardwicke, who cut the sexy wide shots in exchange for more chaste close-ups. ''In a weird way I think it's better,'' says Hardwicke. ''It's less like other movies.''

Even if they're nervous about admitting it publicly, Summit thinks they've got a hit on their hands. They've already got Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg at work on the sequel. Expect to see a New Moon rising.

Stephenie Meyer Talks 'Twilight'

The author shares her feelings about the

movie, whether her ''Midnight Sun'' novel is

really shelved for good, and how she dealt

with negative feedback to ''Breaking Dawn''

Stephenie-Meyer_l
STEPHENIE MEYER ''One hundred people can tell you, 'Oh, I love this, it's so great!' and one person can say, 'I hate this, you're stupid.' And that's the one I listen to. [Laughing].''

With her beloved book finally hitting the big screen, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer sat down with EW for an in-depth interview about the Rob Pattinson casting controversy, Breaking Dawn's mixed reception, the deal with Edward and Bella's big kiss, and what she's working on next.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First and foremost, what was it like seeing your story on the big screen?
STEPHENIE MEYER:
I was terrified for days in advance before I saw Twilight for the first time. I was so worried that it was going to be horrible and break my heart. I'd seen things that were really good, but for all the time I'd spent on the set, I'd probably seen 10 minutes of the movie altogether. So I asked if it was okay if some of my friends watch with me because I have these great friends who are really positive and they love everything! I was really worried about it but we got in there and they put it on and I had my paper and my pen because it was a rough cut and I wanted to give feedback on things I felt needed to be changed. And I didn't write a single thing down because I was so involved. The characters were speaking the way they should and the heart was there. I could have watched it all night in a loop if I could have.

Why did you demand that Edward and Bella's big kissing scene be toned down?
The problem is if you're going to continue with the other movies, there's a very gradual build to their physical relationship. And what Edward is capable of when he first meets Bella changes very much by the time he's become more committed to the relationship. They reshot the first kiss scene and actually added a special effect and some really cool things that added so much. And it's the only kiss scene.

You also asked for some minor script changes and insisted on Kellan Lutz's casting as Emmett. Did you always feel comfortable putting your foot down?
My personality is such that I have a really hard time being critical with other people. I can be critical of myself all day long. But I hate to step in and say, ''I really wish this was different.'' But it's been good for me just in general to have to speak up because I am so invested in this. I've forced myself, like with the Emmett situation, to take a step forward and say, ''I don't like this.'' And that's hard for me, but I'm glad of every time I did it and I don't think I stepped on too many toes and everyone seems to still like me.

What do you think of Rob Pattinson?
He's a very mesmerizing person to be around. He's got such a compelling personality. I don't think you'd want him for a boyfriend. And you couldn't just be his friend because he's terribly sexy!

Were you worried when fans were outraged over his casting?
It broke my heart. Because I've had my tiny bit of celebrity, I'm aware of how hurtful those things can be. I apologized to him for ruining his life. He said his mom was sending him links like, ''Oh no, they called you a gargoyle!'' They just raked him over the coals. The way he took it was a lot more positive than the way I would've handled it. He was like, ''I'm going to prove them wrong. I'm going to go out there and prove them wrong.'' The movie hasn't come out yet and he's won over 99.9 percent of the people who didn't approve of him as Edward. And when they see the movie, oh my gosh, there's no way not to love him! It's really too bad in some ways because Twilight is going to be limited by the fact that this is a vampire romance and it's basically aimed at teens. If not for that, his performance in my opinion is Oscar-worthy.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Backing up, have you recovered from the very split, very passionate response to Breaking Dawn?
STEPHENIE MEYER:
It's been hard. The book did so much better than I thought it would. So many more people read it than I thought would. And then the negative reaction was so much more than I was expecting. Everything was more! I knew that that was coming because I had read all of the expectations people had: ''If this doesn't happen in the end, I'm going to burn the book!'' I already knew the story so that didn't affect what happened, it just made me nervous for it to come out. But in the end I just had to say, ''This is the way this story goes.'' It's almost like history to me. This is what happened! You can't mess with what happened. But I've been surprised at how hard it is to have people in some senses turn on you. That's weird for me. But it was weird to have people like me too.

Have you moved on?
It just got to the point where it was ruining my life to read these hate-filled, poisonous things about me. It was kind of horrifying. I really did have to learn to distance myself. I'm too negative of a person naturally, so I don't need any extra negativity. I'm not an optimist. One hundred people can tell you, ''Oh, I love this, it's so great!'' and one person can say, ''I hate this, you're stupid.'' And that's the one I listen to because that's who I am. [Laughing] So I have to be careful.

Despite the negativity, was there some happiness for you after Breaking Dawn was published?
I didn't feel the sense of completion when I finished the book. I felt the sense of completion when it was out there and knowing that the end capped the story. It's real when it's published. The whole story was there. Finished. Stand alone. And it wasn't whether anybody liked it besides me — I'd done it. I felt a sense of crossing the finishing line. So that was really positive.

When you returned home after a grueling tour for Breaking Dawn, you discovered that your unfinished manuscript for Midnight Sun had leaked onto the Internet, and you released a statement saying you were permanently shelving the story. Do you still feel the same?
The funny thing about that statement is I didn't actually write the majority of it. I wrote about three single-spaced Word document pages of just real pain — with sort of a laugh on the end so everything was kind of tongue-in-cheek. And there were lawyerly people who thought it just wasn't a good way to do it. I didn't want to feel misrepresented in the letter and other people didn't want me to be too emotionally vulnerable. So in the end only the one or two sentences written by me seem really jarring, and people didn't get that there was sort of a joke in there. For example the part that's me is where I said, ''If I wrote it now everybody would end up dying.'' But that was a joke! And it sounded so serious amidst all the lawyer talk and I think my fans thought, Wow, she's threatening to kill everyone! [Laughing] I felt kind of bad about that. I never felt any anger, actually. Just a lot of sadness. I mean it was a sucker punch — like someone came up behind you and just hammered you in the kidneys and you had no idea it was coming.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Is Midnight Sun still dead to you, or can you see finishing and publishing it in the future?
STEPHENIE MEYER:
It's really complicated, because everyone now is in the driver's seat, where they can make judgment calls. ''Well, I think this should happen, I think she should do this.'' I do not feel alone with the manuscript. And I cannot write when I don't feel alone. So my goal is to go for, like, I don't know, two years without ever hearing the words Midnight Sun. And once I'm pretty sure that everyone's forgotten about it, I think I'll be able to get to the place where I'm alone with it again. Then I'll be able to sneak in and work on it again.

Do you have the energy to start working on a new book right now?
Actually, I think being able to write would be the best thing for me. I have two projects I want to work on. But the movie has been so time-consuming — all the publicity and the merchandise to approve. But I want to get in and write something totally different, a whole new world, and lose myself in that. I think that will be the most healing thing for me. So that's my goal.

What stories are kicking around in your head?
I'm a little more hesitant to say what I'm working on, though, because people for some reason seem to take that as some kind of contract: ''You said you were working on this so now you have betrayed my trust by not doing it!'' But I'm thinking I'm actually leaning towards the mermaids' story right now. Years ago...I tried to write an epic poem. It was supposed to be, like, ''The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,'' right? And I couldn't make it work, it was horrible. But I loved the story in it. So that has become part of the back story to this one. Some of the characters are mermaids. Though, again, they're not mermaids like you've known mermaids. They're completely different. And I'm not going to use the word ''mermaid'' in the book — they're sirens.

After all the incredible highs and lows of the past year, do you feel tougher now?
I would say that I am much more fragile now than I was in the beginning of the year. I am not tougher. Nooooo. [Laughing] In a way, I'm really glad about that. As an author, you have to live in a glass house. If you have walls up, you can't see the world around you to interpret it into your stories. And when people start throwing bricks at your glass, you can't fill in the holes with cement. You just have to put more glass in and it's just more delicate than it was before. Being vulnerable and fragile is kind of essential to being able to translate your emotions into a printed work. On the plus side of not being tougher, I don't feel jaded. I don't feel like I've lost my wonder at the good things or my horror at the bad. That's good, right? If I stopped really feeling things I wouldn't be able to write anymore.

Fans of "Twilight" vampire series pump new blood into Forks

Forks has been dealing with a rise in tourists, mainly young girls, as a result of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series. The Olympic Peninsula city, desperately seeking something to replace its fallen timber industry, expects things to only get better with the imminent release of Meyer's fourth book and a film version of "Twilight" later this year.

Seattle Times staff reporterORKS, Clallam County — "WE THINK BELLA'S bedroom is up there," Mike Gurling says, pointing to a second-story window. "When you read the book, this is the perfect image of how you picture Bella's house to be."

Gurling is in the driver's seat of a big blue van hulked outside a simple two-story house in residential Forks. A former Olympic National Park ranger, he notes for his 12 passengers the custom-made placard in the roadside bushes. It reads, "Home of the Swans."

That would be Bella and her father, Charlie Swan. Fictional characters — or are they? At the Forks Visitors Center, where Gurling is tour guide and office manager, it's hard to tell these days what's fantasy and what's not.

The book is Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight," the first of a widely popular vampire series primed to fill Harry Potter's shoes in the hearts of young readers, mainly girls. Set in a far corner of Washington's Olympic Peninsula, the teen-romance-meets-Gothic-horror series continues this Saturday with the release of the fourth book, "Breaking Dawn."

Throughout the past year, growing numbers of fans eager to see where reality meets their imaginations have been visiting Forks from across the country and around the world — Germany, Ireland and Spain. A few months ago, Gurling came up with the idea of "Twilight Tours" and posted details on the Chamber of Commerce Web site. Within hours, an Ohio man and his daughter signed up.

In a place ruled by Douglas fir and Sitka spruce, whose logging-era residents have reputedly preferred to be left alone, some are taking to the attention like vampires exposed to sunlight.

"A few people who live there seemed like they were a little bit annoyed. Maybe they like their peaceful town," says Mikel Birindelli, a 19-year-old Twilighter from Olympia who visited Forks last summer.

"Some people feel like, 'Why should we be known for vampires?' " says 20-year resident Linda Wells. " 'We've got a lot of other good things here.' But it's good to have a different audience. Middle-school teenage girls are not usually a group that comes out."

Critics can't deny the economic potential. "I shouldn't get down on it," says one local motel cashier, "because we are a tourist town and it's brought us a lot of business, but you would not believe how many people come in here expecting to see a vampire. Or a werewolf. I am not kidding."

Recent decades have not been kind to Forks, once dubbed "The Logging Capital of the World." The decline of the timber business spelled job loss and population stagnation throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and the city has been slow to pick itself back up.

Fifteen miles from the rain-soaked Pacific Coast, Forks has two major traffic lights on one main street sprinkled with loud American cars. The recipient of 10 to 12 feet of rain per year, it's a rugged, dreary place steeped in hardworking, old-school ways: One day this summer, for example, an old man in a diner arm-slapped a young apprentice too focused on his veggies and grumbled: "Eat your steak."

Mayor Nedra Reed has long expressed her hope that tourism might help fill the economic void left by the troubled timber industry. The visitor center, dutifully sited between the timber museum and loggers memorial, offers popular summer logging tours. But those visitors focus on nearby attractions such as the Hoh Rain Forest, and provide only seasonal respite.

Then, about five years ago, a thousand miles away in Phoenix, a stay-at-home mom looking for a dark place to set a teenage vampire novel did an Internet search for the rainiest locale in the U.S. The result: the Olympic Peninsula, and a little place called Forks.

New faces in town

THE STRANGERS BEGAN drifting in last summer. Mostly teen girls, flanked by their mothers or fathers or friends, they roam the streets with cameras drawn. Occasionally, they wear T-shirts reading "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob," showing whom they're rooting for in the contest for Bella's affections.

Anything that says "Forks" is fair game. The Forks Coffee Shop. Forks Outfitters, the local department store. The sign that reads, "Welcome to Forks." And especially Forks High School, where Bella is saved from a fatal accident by Edward Cullen, the impossibly good-looking vampire who becomes her beau.

By spring, Forks Chamber of Commerce Director Marcia Bingham estimated the daily average of Twilighters at 30 to 50 people; by last week, she guessed it was more like 90. The visitor center occasionally fields mail for Bella, and a sign above the reception desk reads, "Vampires Thrive in Forks."

The guest book bubbles with zeal from places such as Tucson; Des Moines, Iowa, and Sugar Land, Texas. "A little obsessed!" wrote a visitor from Pocatello, Idaho. From Kirksville, Mo.: "Twilight Fan #1." From Brookings, Ore.: "It's nice to know we're not the only nerds!"

In response, local businesses have creaked from their offseason coffins, aiming for a stake in the craze. Sully's Burgers sold 800 "Bella Burgers" in three months, and the Forks Subway added a "Twilight Special" sandwich. Twilight-themed T-shirts read "I Was Bitten in Forks, WA" at main-street businesses that, like bookstores across the country, are planning midnight release parties for "Breaking Dawn."

Last year, Mayor Reed declared Sept. 13 — Bella's fictional birthday — Stephenie Meyer Day, and the city celebrated with cake and a Bella look-alike contest. Gurling hopes to add a bonfire and Native American wolf dance to the event this year; a blood drive is also possible.

This year should be even better, as 100-plus members of TwilightMoms.com, a Web site dedicated to older fans, have already booked nearly all of Forks' Dew Drop Inn for that weekend.

"I think we're going to be deluged," Bingham says.

The Twilighter tour

THE TOURS ARE conducted nearly every Saturday, in the same 13-passenger van — always full — that Gurling uses for logging tours.

For Twilighters, there's plenty to see: La Push's First Beach, on the Quileute Indian Reservation, where underdog Jacob suggests Edward's true identity. The hospital where Edward's father is a doctor. The vast meadow where the vampires play baseball. And, oddly, the misty, constant rain of which Bella often complains.

"They have this vision," Gurling says. "They want to see all the greenery and the moss and the lichens hanging off the trees."

One tour on a sunny June day includes John and Renee Spies, here from Murfreesboro, Tenn., with daughter Peyton, 13. "It was a little extra birthday gift for her," explains John, a retired manager for Nissan.

Echo Martin, 18, arrives from Roseau, Minn., population 2,800, where Martin says most girls have read one of the town's five copies of "Twilight." "I want to make all my friends jealous," she says.

The farthest-flung are Grant and Deborah Emery of Brisbane, Australia, here with son Michael, 19, and daughter Katherine, 13. "We thought we'd have a family holiday," says Deborah. "And Katherine said, 'Let's go to Forks.' "

Some tour sites are obvious, such as fictional Police Chief Charlie Swan's station, or the hospital, where a parking space has a sign reading, "Dr. Cullen: Reserved Parking Only." Others are not as exact. "It's just, like, where we think it might have happened," Bingham says.

For instance, the Miller Tree Inn, where the front-porch message board on one day notes the Cullens are out playing baseball; and Bella's house, actually home to educators David and Kim McIrvin. When Bingham asked the couple whether they'd mind having their 1916 Craftsman — the only two-story house on their block — designated as Bella's house, "we didn't really realize what we were getting ourselves into," Kim McIrvin says.

Forks townsfolk know the onslaught is only beginning, watching as fans collect souvenir beach rocks and driftwood. For a while, Gurling and Bingham tried to post photos of every Twilighter who visited the center on their Web site, but ultimately quit.

"We stopped at 900," Bingham says. "Our server won't hold any more photos."

'Breaking Dawn' release much anticipated in Forks

By Chris Cook - Forks Forum editor

“Twilight” fans by the hundreds are flocking to Forks.

Tourism promoters and local retailers are saying the town of Forks is now a main attraction, no longer a sidelight, a place to dine and stay for visitors to the Hoh Rain Forest, or Pacific coast.

The town has a unique, fictional and non-fictional identity that’s being established around the world through the Twilight mania.

The next milestone in this movement comes as the phenomenon is beginning to have a noticeable financial impact on the economy of Forks.

This week in the world outside the West End hundreds of thousands of the fans are anxiously awaiting the Aug. 2 release of “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final (maybe) volume in the Forks and LaPush-set, internationally-best selling young adult book series.

Local stores are gearing up to mark the release of Breaking Dawn, which is set to go on sale at precisely 12:01 a.m., Sat., Aug. 2.

On Twilight fan Web sites announcements of Breaking Dawn events show themed costume balls, major radio station tie-ins and more from coast to coast.

In Forks retailers up and down Forks Avenue are benefiting from the attention the book series has brought to the rural town.

New Moon Quote of the Day!!

Jacob was simply a perpetually happy person, and he carried that happiness with him like an aura, sharing it with whoever was near him. Like an earthbound sun, whenever someone was within his gravitational pull, Jacob warmed them. It was natural, a part of who he was. No wonder I was so eager to see him.
