Crystal Folk Club

STOP PRESS _ NEW VENUE

Please note as from 9th May 2008 the Crystal has a new venue and a new Club Night.

We are moving to an upstairs room at the Blackheath Liberal Club, 51 John Street Blackheath Rowley Regis B65 0EP. A-Z Ref Page70 4A" http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=B65+0EP&ie=UTF8&ll=52.47473,-2.044144&spn=0.011737,0.029011&z=15We feel this will be a better venue, the room is newly decorated and will hold around 50 people in comfort, transport links are better, only a mile or so from junction 2 of the M5 (oldbury) and we feel Friday is a more accessible night also the beer is cheap!!

Also we will change the format to more of a performers club perhaps two songs at once from the front and maybe feature spots.

We are sorry to leave the Bird in Hand and Alan but feel we have to move forward if the Crystal is to survive. We continue at the Bird in Hand until 30th April.

History

Crystal Folk began its first incarnation as an informal session at "The Starving Rascal", Amblecote in 1996. Anne took over in 1999 and renamed it as The Crystal Folk club after the glass making industry of the area. It moved through various venus due to the whims of Landlords who thought they could put their rooms to better use, before settlling at the "Bird in Hand" a few years ago.

Venue

The Bird in Hand is a small traditional Black Country pub which began as a beersellers house in the 19th Century, a short history of the pub is displayed on the Premises. The Bird in Hand sells a range of Guest Beers or "real ales".

The Folk club venue is a small private room off the main buliding holding no more than 25 people in comfort, club nights are hosted by Anne who goes "around the room" songs or stories are performed from your seat which most people are more comfortable with.

Admission is free but with a raffle each week the proceeds of which go towards organising guest nights. Admission on guest night is again free but maybe restricted to members or invited guests. There is no booking policy and there is no regular guest night, artistes are booked as and when funds become available and we invite only Artistes of (in our opinion) the highest calibre.

Past guests at the club have included Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, The TrioThelfall , Jon Betmead, Tony Rose, Hilary Spencer, Grace Notes, Robin Laing, Mick Ryan and Pete Harris, Gordon Tyrell, Pete Coe, Bob Fox, The Gravelly's, His Worship and the Pig, The Laners, Gene Burton, Will Morgan, Dan McKinnon

Watch the Diary page for details of future guest nights
