Greetings from Andy and Castor River Woodworks | ![]() |
Welcome to our new website. Please bookmark it and return often as we will continue to add new information, photos, and valuable links.
Castor River Woodworks is an established cabinet shop serving the Ottawa Valley and Eastern Ontario for almost two decades. It is situated just south-east of Ottawa, near the village of Metcalfe. Our shop hours are typically Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30pm, while other services (like estimating and client meetings) frequently occur anytime.
Owner, Andy Donaldson, grew up in, and south, of Ottawa, discovering his natural abilities at doing hands-on work. From his father, he learned practical engineering and forestry management, and many of the character traits he holds in high regard. He always strives to operate with honesty and integrity, making sure his business provides superior craftsmanship, attention to detail, consideration to customer ideas, delivering your projects on time and for the right price.
Andy has always stood firm on some basic principles:
- to listen to your interests, and offer sound alternate solutions if appropriate
- to communicate respectfully in plain English
- to don't start anything until everyone's in agreement
- to make sure the product is the best possible
- to deliver what you agreed on, by the due date
- to only charge what was agreed on
This approach seems to make clients very happy, and because of that, we've never had to advertise Castor River Woodworks! Our clients have been our best source of new work, and we appreciate their referrals and word-of-mouth promotion. To read their unadultered testimonials, you can visit www.rankareno.com. ~ Sept. 2010 note: we've discovered that the www.rankareno.com site has been experiencing some techincal difficulties, and they should be back online sometime this week.~
In the meantime, feel free to view some of the photos in our Gallery, and consider scheduling a free consultation to discuss your millwork dreams with Andy.
Services
Andy did his apprenticeship at Algonquin College in Ottawa, fulfilling the practical portion at a large commercial cabinet shop just south of Ottawa. After completing his training, he promptly set up his own shop where he continued to produce cabinetry for small commercial projects and residential clients. Over the years, the shop has been expanded with newer, more advanced equipment which permit the use of smarter techniques and materials. We specialize in residential kitchens, small commercial cabinetry, fireplaces, custom cabinetry, and custom log sawing.

Success through Planning
Often home-owners are concerned with how long they'll be without a kitchen. This can vary from one renovation to another, depending upon the availability of materials and fixtures for your reno, the complexity of the project, and in particular, how well everyone's been communicating and sticking to the schedule.
We're happy to report that our clients are usually surprised at how well we coordinate our on-site work, and our average is 1-3 days to move in and install your new cabinets. Then it's simply a matter of having your electrician and plumber finish their hook-ups.
Granted, there will be a certain amount of disruption. Here's an interesting article to help you prepare for it.
