Cronies 8-1 Wesupply..Player Cam

Matt Webb looked sharp, although going into the unknown with a new team to the league, Webby was focused and from kick off he would settle for nothing but a win. In his Yellow and Red strip and wearing his bandana he looked the part and he was the part. An early mistake led to a goal, believe it or not Matt forgot you cannot kick the ball from inside your own area, a good finish was near impossible for any keeper to get to. He made some brilliant saves on a slippery fast surface and didn’t look like getting beaten after the first goal was conceded. Also two fabulous runs from goal left Wesupply FC pondering on there chances this season but both o these runs lead to nothing one was dragged wide and the other the best option looked for an assist for Josh Denning, but that wasn’t to be. But overall a great game from Matt ‘Webby’ Webb.

Regan rating: 9/10

Matt Webbs Dream 5aside Team

Now its time for Cronies first team 'keeper/ academy manager to tell us his dream 5 aside team;

Billy Rouse: Hi Matt

Matt Webb: Hey there

BR: Would you like to tell your fans your dream team for this weeks matchday programme?

MW: It would be a pleasure

1 - Jeremie Janot

" Hes a small guy lyk myself but he gets around the goal well nd has amazing agility. Some of the saves he pulls off are simply magical. I also admire for being a 1 club man and staying true to st etienne like what i want to achieve for Cronies. "

2 - Marcel Desailly

" Well at the top his game this man was a world cup winner and played for several top clubs in europe.. Hes big strong powerful nd not afraid to run with the ball. He would never back out of a challenge."

3 - Moustapha Hadji

" Amazing ball skills and a rocket shot. He could light up the prem on his day..a perfect 5 aside player. "

4 - Pele

" Well has there ever been a better goalscorer and all round player..would make any team complete with goals galore nd samba skills. Obviously not nemore 'cos hes old but on his day he wud rip up any defence ".

5 - Rio Ferdinand

" All round player.. he has amazing dribbling for a defender and could outpace or outstrenght many a player. Hes got the all-round play ideal for 5 aside. "

BR: Thank you very much Matt it seems like you have felt long and hard about picking your side

MW: I literally couldnt sleep last night thinking about it, there are just so many more players i would have liked to have put in.

Explosive Billy Rouse Interview

This time Matt Webb gets down and dirty with player/manager/founder Billy Rouse about his and the team's start to the season.

Matt Webb: So Bill, you've made a great goalscoring start to the season, scoring in 5 consecutive games now. Are you surprised at this given you're previous goalscoring record?

Billy Rouse: Well very much so, you know my footballing skills more than anyone else. I don't score goals.

MW: What do you put this down to? Do you feel the return of Danny Rouse has helped and maybe allowed you to be more attacking?

BR: Partly yes, as we both work well together, but i think i've just been hitting the target well recently.

MW: As we've seen with impressive results! How do you feel about Cronies start to the season?

BR: We'vc started well. An outstanding result against Red Express, although i do feel hard done by with the Bad Boys result as we're the only team that had to play them before they pulled out, but other than that it's been encouraging.

MW: With most of the tough games out of the way now, are you looking to get a few more wins under the belt and really push on and try and get an unbeaten streak going?

BR: Yes most definately. It would be good to get some of the fringe players involved, although we cannot afford to slip up.

MW: Having seen the first 5 games of the season, what are your aspirations now?

BR: Well i would really like for us to push for a top 3 spot and secure a new top quality signing.

MW: Someone like Terry Gale or Andy Norman?

BR: Terry yes, Andy maybe not. I was thinking more along the lines of Ross Tremewan or Ryan Beckett.

MW: Of course these are top quality players but are you worried that it would maybe ruin the team spirit which is just coming together? Too many cooks spoil the broth, we've learnt previously that too many disruptions to the team can have a detrimental effect on how we perform on the pitch.

BR: Yes i totally agree there, but with Michael (Benyon) being away at Elmore some weeks it would be good to bring someone else in.

MW: Some members of the squad have reservations about this though..they feel that this may threaten their place in the squad. Should they be worried?

BR: No, not at all, but certain players are going to have to show me more or else we will need changes!

MW: So no-one's place in the team is secure? Not even your's?

BR: What's the point of running a football team if your going to guarentee places, so to answer your question..NO!

MW: Is that a sign that your not happy with performances so far this season?

BR: No..We've been playing well and i just want the best from my players.

MW: How would you deal with any players who disagree with your policy and become disgruntled over lack of playing time like Martin Tyrer in previous campaigns?

BR: Well Martin left after not getting the games, but then missed Cronies life and came back..he came back with a point to prove and has been twice the player he was before. You've just got to prove yourself and if your not prepared to wait for your chance then what's the point of playing the game?

MW: Valid point, but do you feel that too many new faces could potentially ruin the history of the club..in the end you could be left with no original members of the team left. Then what is the point of the club? You've got to decide the direction of the club..do you want success with the best possible players available no matter who they are or do you want to stick with the same core and work with them and try to improve?

BR: I know it's quite disappointing with only 2 original members left, but with myself and yourself still in the set-up i believe we can create an unstoppable side!

BR: I am very happy with the squad. I just want to see mroe from a couple of the lads.

MW: So what direction do you want the club to head in..for example if Ronaldinho, Buffon, Ronaldo, Ferdinand and Fabregas wanted to join would you let them?

BR: Well lets be honest, who would turn them away?

MW: Yh of course they would make Cronies the best team in the world, but then what is the point of having the team if none of the founders or current squad are left to play in it?

BR: I think you are going off the point here. We are both involved in the set-up as managers

MW: Im not the 1 who is avoiding answering the question!

MW: Is it more about the banter and the fun or is it more about results and honours?

BR: With the squad we've got we will challenging for honours with are banter.

MW: You've still not answered the question..what direction do you want the club to head in..what is yours and the club's prerogative?

BR: I want the club to be challenging for honours. I feel the current squad is capable of doing this.

MW: Yes we know this, but if better players became available would you turn them down so the team could remain mostly the same?

BR: It really does depend on how the team does over the season.

MW: So if you had to, you would replace the whole team?

BR: Are squad is good enough to compete with the best, so there is no need for change!

MW: So your pledging never to replace the team? But earlier you said no-one's place was secure!

BR: No-one's place is guarenteed. You can't jus say the team is Matt, Danny, Mark, Harry, Martin can you? Players have to work, that's what i meant.

MW: So the whole team could be replaces if no-one performs well?

BR: I can't just magic up new players! I don;t think you understand what i'm saying. If for instance Martin has a shocker, he won't keep his place, he will be moved to the bench.

MW: I never said you could magic up new players! But if they did become available would you replace the team?

BR: No!

MW: Finally a straight answer.

BR: Finally a straight question.

MW: All of my questions have been perfectly straight.

MW: How would you prefer the team to be like..Red Express a team which maybe takes it too seriously and results are everything or for example Silver Bullet where it's more about the fun.

BR: Wherever there's Cronies FC there's fun!

MW: I think we'll leave it there for now..we could go on all night about Cronies FC! Thank you for your time, we've certainly cleared up a few things!

BR: No problems.

Marky Flay's Dream Five

The second part in our series, this time it's striker Mark Flay giving us his all-time 5 a-side team made up of players, past or present.

1 Peter Schmeichel

Never been a better keeper in my opinion.

2 John Terry

Always gives 100% and never backs out of a challenge.

3 Steven Gerrard

Gives his all every time he plays and can defend world class, as seen in the Champions League final when he was right back for the last 5 minutes, and he is world class at striking a ball and scoring!

4 Cristiano Ronaldo

His tricks can unlock defences in the blink of an eye, the most skillful player on the ball in my opinion.

5 Michael Owen

Natural finisher, 5 a-side aint about pace. He's just a world class finisher.

Thank you for your time Mark, you've gone for a very modern team there ;)

Haha indeed.

Mark Flay Interview

Club captain and goalkeeper Matt Webb finds time from his hectic schedule to chat to Mark 'Wolly' Flay about all things Cronies.

Matt Webb: Are you ready for you're official Cronies FC website interview?

Mark Flay: Haha go for it!

MW: You've really cemented your place in the team over the 2nd part of last season and this season, how does it feel to be part of this team?

MF: It was a long time coming but i feel i've done enough when i got given my chance, although i do sometimes feel out of my depth but it is a good feeling being a first teamer.

MW: What are your personal hopes and aims for this season?

MF: My aim is to get more goals as i'm not finishing the chances i get at the moment, and i also hope for Cronies FC to challenge for that elusive second place spot.

MW: Is it tough having to play for Beacon Knights on a saturday afternoon and then again later that evening for Cronies?

MF: I don't find it physically demanding at all, it's a joy to play football, although it was frustrating getting an injury in the Beacon Knights vs Lapford match which meant i missed the later match against Psycho Strikers.

MW: Of course u have been out of competitive football for a good few years now, how did you fnd the transition back into regular competitive footie?

MF: It was hard and i'm still struggling to finish the chances i'm given, as you may have witnessed for BKAFC, but im finding myself feeling alot fitter now than i was say 4 or 5 months ago.

MW: Where do you see yourself, football wise, in let's say 2 or 3 years?

MF: I want to be a regular starter for Cronies FC and Beacon Knights, who are hopefully in a better standard of league!

MW: There have been rumours touted around of the saturday night league at Clifton Hill collapsing due to lack of teams. Would you support the team's move to either a sunday or midweek league where perhaps there is a better standard of football.

MF: I would support that, the monday night league at Isca is of a good standard as i have experienced recently, or we do have the resources to expand and possibly enter the 6 a-side up at St James School.

MW: One of reasons for Cronies not being higher up the table in recent seasons is perhaps the high turnover of players for a 5 a-side team, we have used 10 players after 5 games already this season. What are your thoughts on this?

MF: Well basically the gaffer has brought in players when we've needed them, for example on saturday night, both me and Harry Rogers had been injured playing for are respective club sides plus Michael Benyon and Martin Tyrer both couldn't make it so we have needed the 10 players we have used.

MW: Yes yes, there have been rumours flying around about a possible move for free agent Terry Gale, the ex-team handsome hardman, could this improve or disrupt the team?

MF: No doubt ir would improve the team, but as you mentioned we have already used 10 players and Terry would be the 11th so that may be a little disruptive, and i would also fear for my place in the squad if he arrived.

MW: It's all about finding the right combination between youth and experience, for example Danny Rouse has already returned to great effect, would another older player be good for the team or just ruin the youthful image of the club?

MF: The image of the club doesn't really matter to be honest, it's more about getting results, and no doubt terry gsle would be a great acquisition, but as i said earlier i would fear for my squad place should he agree to sign on.

MW: Talkin of youth, how do you feel Academy players Martin Tyrer and Harry Rogers have adapted to life in the first team?

MF: Harry has impressed me, and i always knew what Martin could do, i just feel that sometimes he is too rushed, but that is youth for you, i'm 17 and i still rush it sometimes, but no doubt they will be quality players for us.

MW: If and that's a big if, we keep the core of the side together, how long before you feel we could possibly challenge for honours?

MF: Next season no doubt.

MW: Well that's it for now Mark..Good luck for the rest of the season.

MF: Thank you, i hope it is a successful season with both Beacon Knights, Cronies and personally, myslef, thank you.

Billy Rouse's Dream Five
Each week we will be asking Cronies players who they would choose in their dream five a side team.
This week we are starting with Cronies star Billy Rouse.

1: Peter Schmeichel
He's a hero of mine, especially after the champions league final of 99'  he really lives up to his name, The Great Dane.

2: Frank Lebouef
Well i always thought he was a good player at Chelsea and with a world cup winners medal, he just had to be in.

3:
Eric Cantona
Well, what a player he's a great football but the highlight for me is kicking that Crystal Palace fan.. it really made me chuckle.

4:
Roy Keane
He's my icon so he had to be in.

5:
Lionel Messi
He's the best player in the world right now so basically he's a dead cert.

Thank you for your time Billy Rouse.
No Problem.

Harry Rogers Interview

Academy boss Matt Webb speaks to youngster Harry Rogers about his First Team debut at the weekend, which made him the youngest ever first team player.

Matt Webb: How does it feel to be the youngest ever Cronies FC player?

Harry Rogers: Well I feel great that i am able to play for a men's team at this age.

MW: Were you surprised about your call up to the 1st team squad this early into your career?

HR: Well yes a bit, but the shock really hit the system when i was playing, i just didnt know how to react.

MW: You were a late inclusion into the squad.. you only found out in the evening before the match..how did this affect your preparation?

HR: Quite alot actually but i just made sure i was available to play.

MW: What was going through your head when you made your Cronies debut?

HR: Well i just knew i had to impress and that is going to be the same mentality for all of my games. To work hard and impress and to score.

MW: Its been a frustrating time for the academy players with the lack of games..Ryan Smales has already quit..has it ever crossed your mind to quit Cronies FC?

HR: Sometimes i wondered if i was ever going to get a game, but my call up has told me to keep going. I know this must be a frustrating time for the Academy lads not to get a game but i want to push them on and help the academy side get off to a good start.

MW: What are your future aims for Cronies now?..Where do you want to be in you career in 3 years time?

HR: Well i'm hoping to still be in the first team and enjoying my football, but it will be definately be helping the academy side keep going and maybe settle into more of a manger role but im not too sure.

MW: What would you do if..say the likes of Team Handsome or Bad Boys came in for you?

HR: Simple. No.

MW: You've obviously got a bright future ahead of you..are you hoping to get the chance of playing for Exeter City?

HR: Well i'm not sure. I'm currently having trials at the moment and it would be a great opportunity to play for Exeter City but i'm not sure.

MW: Apart from you and Martin Tyrer no other Academy players have made the transition into the first team yet..which other players should we be looking out for in the future?

HR: Well Sam Toghill's a good goalie and Harry West's scoring record is outstanding, 7 goals in 3 games for Pinhoe Spartans so far this season..this shows that the Academy has alot of potential and talent.

MW: It's rumoured that you will be startin next match..are you pleased with the progress you've made?

HR: Yes, i'm very pleased and i hope to try and keep my place in the 1st team squad and help Cronies FC win matches.

MW: Would you mind if you had to be patient and lets says..drop back down to the academy for a spell just like Martin Tyrer?

HR: Yes i would be pleased to play in the academy side and still play games.

MW: That's all for now. Thank-you very much Harry Rogers and good luck in your Cronies F.C. career.

HR: Thank-you its been a pleasure.
