So the big problem with blogs given the general public is that the average person doesn't have the attantion span to maintain it for any period of time- even a web designer/computer scientist like yours truly. To actually keep an interesting blog and make it useful in connecting the worlds networks of friends over the internet it has to be easy to update, and have interesting content
The problem is, i dont have either This page is a bitch to maintain. The code is aweful.
So, this summer it looks like ill be redoing BicycleXC in a nice flash webpage. Till then Go to

So it snowed last night.
And I don't know, they must have rebuilt Rosaryville or something, cause we left nothing standing last month.
And we did the same today. In the snow! Thanks to Anne Arundel county for calling off school, I had the chance to make fresh tracks at the greatest 10 mile loop around.
Yep, on the cross bike.
Jonathan and I both shot some video, however my camera was being to shity to work for any length of time, so most footage is his, enjoy better picture quality.
He also picked the backround music. Nice Eh?

Hope everyone has had a good week- I have certainly had a good Saturday.
So, I've been training for a little while now. Well I wouldn't call it training, maybe just practicing, but none the less on the grand scale of things cycling-wise-----I'm not in such a bad spot.
We've been riding the roads at FBS, well they do all kinds of stuff however I seemed to never get into mountain biking with them. We have done fixed gear rides, straight road rides, and cross country rides (I call it BXC for a reason). Today I had my chance to see how I compared with all the practiced riders I know of.
Before that however, I must tell you I didn't bring my Raleigh Mountain Bike. I brought what I refer to as my 'road bike' (only because its the closest thing to a road bike I've ever owned), It's really the trusty Raleigh Rx1.0 that rattled down the canal last Oct.
We left this morning at about 6:30 bound for Rosaryville State Park. Jim was going to tag along but he had trouble with his bike in the early hours. Temperature was 24 degrees F. That in my book is "holy god" cold. Because of this my appendages were freezing most of the ride- and as soon as I got something warm, something else went cold (not a complaint!---just saying!)
Two laps, one in each direction, 20 miles, 1:55. Not bad if I say so. And the bike was awesome! Rosaryville isn't very rough, its very flowey; that coupled with super cold equals concrete for trail. Some log hops I couldn't do, but mostly I was just one with the bike, moving all over it.
Theres nothing left of Rosaryville, we tore it all up.

P.S. The best part is- When I got home, I easily had the energy to tear off the knobby tires, and replace the Slicks- Lookout roads?

Lets see some fun and crazy new footage from BXC. THE JANUARY FIXED GEAR RIDE!
While Jim, Old Man Jon, Tom, Jonathan and Dave ride for the glory- Trevor seems to have plenty of luck with his new wheel set-all of it being bad. "Why am I having such a hard time this morning?!" |
Big thanks to Crank My Chain for tons of advice. Awesome ride- Awesome folks- Awesome Morning.
Yea Trevor! Ryan fixed it up now, maybe it wont throw anymore.
My favorite part is when Dave's bike is focused in on- Beck sings "forces of evil in a bozo nightmare", could he be talking about the dérailleur?

This note was left on the windshield of this BMW owners car. It says [in case you cant read it]
Dear Person, I'm sorry I put a dent in your car. I didn't want to but, I did when I tryed to park next to you. I am not leaving my information because you chose to use two spaces and I just wanted to park in one. The scratches are because I used a towel that had sand on it to try to clean the dent/paint off. Beaches are fun. Please look your car over for the dent and scratches and each time you see them remember not to park in two spaces. -Sorry!!!

How many time have you wanted to do this but couldn't? I salute this guy.
On second thought-he should have just rode his bike to wherever he was going, instead of driving.
The fixed Gear Ride is tomorrow. I'm looking forward it-but thats probably no surprise. I try and avoid the situations where i am forced to sandpaper someones car.
Quick thought on Bushes Plan-Well, as far as I'm concerned, it hasn't changed from before. Come now Pres. you let me down "I will wait until the new year, to implement the new plan" (Thats not an actual quote) but still, aren't you let down? I was expecting some real zingers for January. Anyway- Everyone knows invading Iraq was stupid now, Four years ago I saw few people opposing the war, Granted, few approved it either. My point is not that its bad to change your mind- My point is its good people have changed their minds based on the actions of the war, if no one ever changed their minds we'd have numbers for names.
So, War then="Why? but w/e Georgie" War now="Goddammit Bush!". Agree? Ok good. Now that we agree it was a mistake I am going to say its my opinion that we cannot leave. So you may be saying "Tom! over three thousand troops have died, we need to be out now!". Well if we leave, the terrorists that we all know are there now (blowing up stuff right?) would just be free to scheme against us. Thus the Birth of another Afghanistan; like the one after the defeat of the Soviets int the 80's (aka Bin Ladden, and 'the hatred of America' kind of country). So, whether you agree or disagree- if we pull out, it will lead to the rise, of the people fighting us now, to even higher levels of power----over a whole country!, instead of just neighborhoods like now in Iraq.
Hay, I'm all for getting out- Have Bush give the U.N. a call- They're there for peacekeeping and a WORLD force would prove the WORLD likes peace after all. Sadly however, Bush wants to be able to call the Iraqi government a product of America- and also have influence over it (oil liaison)

I did it- I broke the bike-
Who called it anyway?
So the locknut needed tightening after the first few rides, and ::cough cough:: me being the heroically strong {and stupid} person i am; did a very nice job stripping off the last thread or so from the hub. Yea it sucks. I bought a used-broken wheel. The wheel has a track hub, the fixed gear side is stripped, but the freewheel side is ok. My original wheels are 27", now my back is smaller at 700c. Eh it happens, the important part is it works. The bad part is it really wasn't my wheel. Any suggestions on making fixed gear cogs and locknut's stay on a hub with 1 less thread on the end?
BTW that comic is for Ryan- XKCD is my favorite online comic, and if theres anybody reading this i encourage you to read a few of them.

Water water everywhere; but none of it to drink. At 5 today there was a huge water main break on my street. What that means to me: household has 4 flushes left.
Big hole in Urby Drive, I guess its filed in now, but the water is funky; i guess it will be for a few days.
I added some pages to BicycleXC- a 'bikes' page which is kinda cool. email me to put pictures of yours up. Thats right-show off.
And oh yea, the Schwinn is done now, so look at the pictures. I'm pumped. I just know I'll find a way to break it.

Thursday- normally a time of increasing joy for the upcoming Friday. Not this week
I'll tell you why too-High school need i say more? Next topic.
This is the first rant of 2007, hoary but since its winter theres not too much going on. Not much that interests me anyway. Winter however is playoff time and the most important team in the playoffs is Baltimore. Yes the ravens. Why? cause there are too many bandwagon Pittsburgh fans in crofton
On the day before Christmas i was talking to my friend whos is a pittsburgh fan. The ravens and pittsburgh were to play soon afterward so we made a bet. The bet itsef wasn't important, but today football came up again. A third friend, who was a cheifs fan (dont ask me why) was running off about how they made the playoffs. Ms. Steelers started running hers off about how the playoffs arn't fair, blah blah blah-she obviuosly didnt have any idea what she was talking about. The reason was that the cheifs lost to pittsburgh, who arn't now in the post season.
Mr. Cheifs and i then lost our voices telling her alls fair in a playoff, thats how they were designed
If you think that was a boring and pointless, or irrelevant story- I have to put oup with this everyday

Man that guy is wierd. Talk about it, it was the parade of the wierdos today at work, anyway
More of the same today-almost sold an OCR1 bitches! Speaking of which, i may need to get a Giant OCR or TCR. They really really are among the best bikes I've ever ridden.
Happy New Year Everyone- make your resolutions so you can break em'. My resolution is to finish my Eagle Project. Lord knows how the parents are annoying me about it. Also I want to race this spring. We'll see how it goes.
So maybe I'll call this website a 'dog' instead of a Blog - or maybe that guy should get a life.
And feel bad for that guy who crashed, you know you've done it. Way to get back up.

Merry Hoidays. Yea woot for christmas its just so holy and joyful.
Gag...
Think about it, I dont care what your religion is, if you had a whole day where your just supposed to be with family; thats just a plain good idea. How often do we just see our family? I just dont like it when people try and make christmas about god. We didn't invent <hide young children> Santa </hide young children> or the christmas tree for god, we invented them t have a good time.
Maybe i'll just go back to celebrating the winter solstice, like they did before god was invented.
