Yarn Weight: sport or baby OR light or regular worsted in any color for flower.
Small amount of green for stem.
Size F, G, or H crochet hook depending upon yarn choice. (Smaller the hook & thinner the yarn, the smaller the cap.)
1 Tapestry needle
2 stitch markers of different colors such as orange & green
Gauge: for cap in image below, using Berroco's "Comfort, measuring Bushys in 6th & 7th row, one Bushy = approximately 1" x 3/4"; it measures 5" across when folded flat for 10"
Chain 5, place marker (orange) in 1st ch created.
Special notes: Work in back hump of chains for prettier stems. Turning chains will be utilized later for when joining to Tulip Cap.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. 4 sts.
Row 2: Ch 4, sk 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, sc in 4th ch from Row 1 where orange marker is. 4 sts. Place green marker in top two loops of last sc created.
Row 3 & 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Ch 7, in 2nd ch from hook sl st across, do not sl st in 4th ch as rest of rows. Holding yarn in front of hook, insert hook in sc st from Row 2, where green marker is, to create anchoring sl st. End off. Set aside.
Chain 4, join with a sl st to create a ring.
Rnd 1: ch 1, * sc, ch 2, 2 dc, repeat from * 3 more times, join sl st. (4 "Bushy" clusters)
Rnd 2: Normal instructions without adding stem: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) twice in each ch-2 sps around, join with sl st. (8 "Bushy" Clusters)
Rnd 2: Enhanced instructions for adding on stem as you go: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, dc 2, sc, ch 2, dc, yo, insert hook in st, pull up loop, yo and remove 2 loops, insert hook through sp of turning ch from Row 1 of stem, yo and remove all from hook) in each ch-2 sp around, join with sl st. (8 "Bushy" Clusters)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, *(sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, dc) twice in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, join with a sl st. (12 "Bushy" Clusters)
Rnd 4: Ch 1,*(sc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp and in next, (sc, ch 2, dc) twice in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, join with a sl st.
Rnd 5-10: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, 2 dc) around in each ch-2 sp, jojin with a sl st.
Edging: Ch 3, 3 dc in ch-2 sp, *sc in next ch-2 sp, 7 dc in next ch-2 sp, repeat from * around, dc 3 times in starting ch-2 sp, join with sl st.
Secure ends. If you wish you may use the tails from the stem to further anchor onto the tulip.
