CLWB RASIO MONA

THE MONA STURGEON STORY...

Episode 1...

This is the story of a young lady called Mona Sturgeon. Mona, who is 10 years of age (date of writing: 14-06-07), recently contacted this club, eagerly wanting to purchase some of our club kit! With the help of her dad, John they successfully tracked us down. The reason for this quest becomes clear when you read a copy of Mona's e-mail below:

The trouble with being called Mona is that I can get nothing with my name on it. My dad saw one of your members at the Fred Whitton Challenge this weekend and he has tracked you down on the 'net. Any chance that I could spread the fame of your club by buying some of your fab kit?

The photo is of me a couple of years ago on the podium in Alpe d'Huez after cycling up and seeing off a couple of English lads just at the finish. You can see that my kit is not quite up to the job but I will not wear just anything! I live in Dumfries, Scotland.

We have since had the pleasure of supplying Mona with a long sleeve Clwb Rasio Mona top and a pair of bib-shorts. I have since recieved correspondence from Mona's dad saying that she is thrilled with her kit and with her membership card - she is, naturally, now a club member as well! The next day after receiving her kit, Mona insisted on wearing her
CRM top to school!!

As Mona comes from Dumfries, she resides second furthest (Northerly) from Anglesey of all of our club members; with David Alun Jones who lives in Edingburgh being the furthest. We thank Mona for wanting to "spread the fame" of our club and wish her the very best for the future. Here are a couple of photos of Mona sporting CRM colours!

Episode 2...

Clwb Rasio Mona member, Mona Sturgeon, entered her first ever race: the Kirkudbright Criterium on Sunday 26 Aug and won a gold medal and £10. At only 10 years of age, Mona was the youngest girl there - one was 15! We also understand that Clwb Rasio Mona received some publicity during the event from the race commentator!

Mona’s dad, John Sturgeon says: “As the season draws to a close she is fired up and looking forward to the event next year”.

Incidentally, it appears that John keeps himself busy too. He recently did the Scottish Middle & Long distance BAR Championship and said in his e-mail to us on the following day that the 12 hour event had left him “…a bit weary”! John has also raced against Graeme Obree a few times and says that he is “…quite a character”!

The Sturgeon family hopes to fit a visit down this way into their calendar for next year so that Mona can try one of our time trials. Needless to say that they will be very welcome indeed, so let’s hope that they can make it!

Episode 3...

We received the following bit of ‘latest news’ with some photos from this young lady’s dad, John Sturgeon several months ago; and I apologise for not having updated the “Mona Sturgeon story” well before now!

The subject of one of John’s e-mails was “Rasio Mona tests clean!” Like John said in his e-mail, the rather “strange subject” becomes clearer when you look at the photo!!!

As you can see, the Rasio Mona colours* are still very much a familiar sight up Dumfries way… thanks to Mona!

Whilst in the Velodrome for the first round of the Track Cycling World Cup last year, Mona meets the stars! Here she is, seen here with her mum and someone we all might recognize!!

Best wishes to Mona; from all at Clwb Rasio Mona;
we wish her a good cycling season for 2009!
