And then there was DaveIt all started quite innocently. He was sitting up in his truck at the track reading (I would later find out it was the Bible). I was taking a walk. We both looked at each other and said "hi." We talked for over an hour. A few weeks later he asked for my number. He called a lot over the next few weeks. I was still having a pretty wild summer. Once Sunday he rode from Newport News to Virginia Beach on his Harley and we went for a ride. We sat on a gazebo by the water and talked for over 5 hours. There were no secrets. We told each other about our lives. He was a Christian. That didn't bother me, but I didn't want anything to do with it. He started taking me to church and slowly my wild summer eased. I was enjoying it. I was learning things I never knew. I was beginning to feel something happening to me. But I was pretty adamant that the relationship would never work. I was thining I'd end it after the season. I took out the piercings, I'd make my point, I didn't need them. On October 2004 I fell in love, twice. The final race of the season had been rescheduled to October 3 due to rain. We had caused quite a bit of commotion the previous week at the track when everyone finally found out we were dating, including, yes, the ex. Dave was in a wreck and I found myself on my knees praying he'd be ok. It was a that moment that I realized exactly how I deeply I felt about him. One week later I gave my life to Christ. Dave has given me the greatest gift that one can give to another - he led me to the Lord. I'd had a few friends and family that had tried before, when I had cancer, and after. But I'd always dismissed them. And now the rest of the story.
