A New Me
For the past several years, Randy and I had been a part of a race crew at our local race track, Langley Speedway. I grew up with racing, it's in my blood. Saturday nights growing up were spent at the track. Randy went, because I went. He had no true interest.
At the end of the racing season in 2003 I met one of the driver's sisters. I had noticed that she'd had a significant weight loss as the season went on. I asked her how she had done it. I went to my first Weight Watchers meeting 4 days later. It was a big adjustment. I learned to eat healthier, my daughter learned better habits. And most of all, I learned to develop a new attitude.
As the pounds came off, my self-esteem did a 360. The thyroid condition had finally stabilized and I was beginning to feel great about myself for the first time since, well, I don't know when.
I also realized that I was in a relationship that was non-existent. We had nothing in common. The only time we ever talked was when we fought.
I landed a job in my field, using the things I'd learned and the experience I'd accumulated. Leaving my friends and giving up teaching was one of the hardest things I ever had to do.
Leaving Randy wasn't so hard.
But I was a new me and I knew what I had to do to make life better for me and my daughter.
It was a Wild Summer 2004!
