Cedar Ridge Farm

Children's Horseback Riding Lessons In Greenville, IN - English & Western Lessons Offered!

Farm News!

Our 2009 Fall Fun Show was held on Oct. 24 with 32 lesson students participating. The horses were feeling their oats on this cool, crisp autumn morning but the students rode them very well! Thank yous got out to all the parents and students who worked to make this show go smoothly. We once again put out a donation jar on our refreshment table and once again our lesson student families came through and we were able to send a check to the Equine Rescue League of Southern Indiana! Well done all!

Carly took her two horses, Catch Me If U Can and Tiny, to the October NBHA show at Yankeetown Arena in Henryville. Once again they won all the entry fees back and some take home money for Carly.

At the Sept. 19 Lucky Horseshoes Open Show Carly and her four horses - Aviator, Gladiator, Catch Me If U Can, and Rocket all took home ribbons. Rocket continues to come in right behind Catch Me If U Can, taking second to her first in barrels, poles, and 3rd to her second place in flags. Catch Me If U Can also won the key hole race. Gladiator, after not being shown this year came back and took second to Aviator's 1st in the dressage class, beating much more experienced horses, what a fancy mover he is. Aviator won all but one of his english flat/jumping classes, the one loss was due to rider error.  He is a fantastic guy! The big surprise of the day was our daughter Anna's young paint Chuck. This was Chuck's first time at a show ever and he got out there and was awesome! He just floated around that arena. At just three years old and showing that kind of movement he is going to be awesome win he finishes growing up. Four blues for Chuck and Anna!

Congratulations go out to both of our daughters. Our oldest daughter Anna will be riding for the University of Louisville's Equestrian Team for the 2009-2010 year. Her class load in college has been so heavy she never had time to ride on the equestrian team before but due to taking summer classes she will finally get to ride on the team in her senior year! Her evaluation ride for the team coach went very well. Our younger daughter, Carly, went to the September Pekin Saddle Club Open Show and her barrel horse Torn On Tiny had his best run yet! He clocked a 16.12 second run in the youth barrels, beating for the very first time, Catch Me If U Can and winning that class. However, Catch Me If U Can was not to be outdone and won the youth poles, 2nd in the open barrels, 1st in the open flag race. Well done Carly and horses.

We are very proud of the accomplishments of Carly with her two horses Catch Me If U Can and Torn On Tiny (aka Rocket) at their NBHA/IBRA sanctioned shows so far this year. In all but one show they have brought home money. That one show that they didn't bring home a check the big 4D Open was canceled due to a thunder storm rolling in. Rocket was suppose to be a project horse for resell after his elder owner couldn't ride him any longer due to health problems. He had been unridden for a year when we got him. He has improved with each run. He is a good guy that we can put our more experienced teenage lessons students on and he teaches them how to ride a forward horse. We have decided he has earned the right to stay here so he is no longer for sale. Latest results are from the Blue River Saddle Club Scott Bement Memorial Show 8/22/09. Junior Barrels - Catch Me If U Can 1st (Clocked the fastest time of the day in barrels in this run), Rocket 2nd., Junior Polebending - Catch Me If U Can 1st, Rocket 3rd, Crusade For Children Barrel Race - Catch Me If U Can 2nd overall. Carly won the Junior Division of the Crusade For Children Barrel Race and was awarded a very nice trophy. Well done again!

Congratulations to our daughter Carly Dolan! She participated in the Harrison County 2009 Horse & Pony 4H Show in July. She was the Sr. High Point Winner in both the Gymkhana and English. On her horse Catch Me If U Can (Pearl) she was unbeaten in all of her contesting classes. On her horse Aviator she was unbeaten in all of her english classes! Both of these thoroughbred horses were retrained here after their racing careers ended and they have been very successful in their new show careers. Picture of Carly with her two horses and their embroidered chairs and grand champion ribbons are under the Horsey Photos page on this site. Way to go!

Cedar Ridge Farm's 2008 Fall Fun Show

We are very proud of all of the 29 lesson students who participated in our Annual Fall Fun Show on November 2, 2008. The students did very well and so did the horses. We had a good number of spectators rooting them on. We would like to thank the many volunteers who helped make this show run smoothly, we couldn't have done it without you! We also collected donations for the Equine Humane League of Southern Indiana and we're happy to send them a check. Well done all.

Kudos to...

Rachel and Magic schooled their very first cross country jumps this past fall at Masterson Station Park in Lexington KY with Sunnyside Pony Club. They reported that Magic did great and they had so much fun. Congratulations to you both.

Katie C., after learning her basics here, got her very own horse, the much loved Haflinger mare Pansey. Pansey is living the good life now with the Canter Family. I know that Katie gives that horse as much love as any horse could possibly get. Enjoy her Katie.

Valri M., after getting her basics down in her riding lessons, was awarded her very own horse by her proud parents. Congratulations Valri have fun with your new horse. Update, the Moxleys now own three horses!

Yankeetown & Saddle Up Arena Shows

Carly and Catch Me If U Can are now running the barrels in the 15 second range. They first ran the barrels in the upper 15 second range at Yankeetown Arena's Oct. 4 Show. Winning the 2D in both Open and Youth. They had their personal best time at Saddle Up Arena's Show on Nov. 1 with a time of 15.462! They just keep getting faster and faster. Carly is also working with Torn On Tiny (aka Rocket) who has been off work all of 2008 due to his prior owner's knee replacement surgery. She won money on him in 4D at Yankeetown and at Saddle Up Arena.

2008 IBRA Eastern Finals

Carly and Catch Me If U Can went to the IBRA Eastern Finals held in Murfreesboro, TN on Oct. 9 and 10. They had qualified in the Open 4D and the Youth 3D. Wow, 500 entries in the Open 4D and about 200 in the Youth 3D. They didn't make it into the final run but they had some good runs down there. Good job!

IBRA/NBHA Show At Yankeetown Arena

October 4

Way to go Carly and Catch Me If U Can & Rocket (Torn On Tiny)! 1st in 2D in IBRA Youth, 2nd in 2D in NBHA Open 3D, 1st in 3D in IBRA Youth.

Champagne Run At The Park Horse Trials

Carly and Aviator pictured above at the Champagne Run At The Park Horse Trials on July 19 and 20, in the stadium jumping, dressage, and cross country phases held at the awesome Kentucky Horse Park. This is considered a very challenging horse trial as the course designers max out the jump heights and widths for each level and ask tricky questions of the horse and riders. This was Aviator's first novice horse trial and he made the stadium and cross country phases look easy and went double clear in both. His dressage test was his best yet as he was relaxed and attentive to Carly. They exceeded our expectations for his first novice horse trial at such a challenging event. Way to go you two, we are very proud of you!

Silver Spurs 4H Horse & Pony Show

The 2008 Silver Spurs 4H Horse & Pony Show was held on July 12 & 13. Our daughter Carly Dolan took high point in both Sr. English and Sr. Contesting with her two thoroughbreds Aviator in English and Catch Me If U Can in contesting. She was awarded two embroidered chairs. She also took her little 13.2 hand morgan Beauty who won reining and keyhole race, she also placed 2nd to Catch Me If U Can in flag race, 3rd in barrels and pole bending against the big horses. She shined in the driving class, pictured above, and took home the blue in that also. We also want to congratulate lesson students Amanda, Rachel, Kendal, and Allyson for taking home numerous ribbons at this show also. I lost track of who won what so I will need to find out the details. I know Rachel won the Intro Dressage Test A class and took 2nd in the cross rail class. Amanda won the 18" vertical class.  There were many more ribbons won by these students but I don't know what all they were in.

Congrats to....

Area 2 4H Horse & Pony Show

Carly Dolan took three horses to the June 21 Area 2 4H Horse & Pony Show. Aviator took home the blue in Hunter Hack, 2nd in Hunter Over Fences. Beauty brought home the blue in ALL of the under 56" contesting classes except keyhole race (She may have very well won that but the timer messed up on her first run which was clean, she touched the line on the rerun and didn't get a time.) She won the barrel race, pole bending, and the flag race! Catch Me If You Can won the over 56" Pole Bending class, beating all by almost three seconds! Good job Carly and of course our wonderful horses!

Carly & Catch Me If U Can win at Murfreesboro!

UPDATE 8/9/08 As we predicted earlier in the year we felt this horse would start running barrels in the 15 second range and she did just that at the Pekin Saddle Club's August Fun Show, she won both the youth and open barrels against some pretty fast horses, both runs in the 15 second range, and brought home a nice little paycheck. This thoroughbred mare was in race training but had breathing problems when asked to start going the longer distances, her breeder decided to give her to us so she could start a new career. She is a smaller thoroughbred horse with very long legs, extremely agile, that can definitely run the shorter contesting distances with the quarter horses. As with many Northern Dancer line horses she is smaller but with plenty of engine behind her. She just keeps getting faster...we are going to be looking forward to seeing her run at Murfreesboro in the IBRA Eastern Finals! They are qualified for the open 4D and the youth 2D, but she is running full blast now so who knows what she will be doing down there. GO CARLY AND CATCH ME IF U CAN!!!!

UPDATE: Carly and Catch Me If U Can bested their top time three different times at the IBRA/NBHA sanctioned show at Yankeetown Arena on 5/17/08. They moved up to the 2D times with the last run at 16.01. This horse isn't at full throttle yet. Great job Carly training this mare! Carly & Catch Me If U Can won the 4th division of the $2500 added open 4D class at the IBRA Barrel Racing Futurity in the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, TN on April 5. They are pictured above with the cooler that they were awarded along with a nice paycheck and a photo of their winning run. They earned a wild card to the IBRA Eastern Finals! Congratulations from all of us here at Cedar Ridge Farm on a job well done!
