FEAR Guide to Team Communication (Part 1)

Team communication is essential for winning and is the key to success.  This guide is meant to provide a guide of how to communicate properly when in a match.  Knowing where to go or where to direct teammates is very important when operating an attack strategically.  The follow diagrams indicate the different hot spots on each map; these indicators help significantly and keep all team members on the same page.

Construct is an asymmetrical map which requires a lot of teamwork in order to be successful. By controlling the top gravity lifts, a team can easily dominate the playing field.  It is imperative to be able to counter this attack.  There are multiple ways, but most importantly the attack has to be done as a team.  If the enemy is controlling all three gravity lifts, you don’t want each individual to go up a different lift.  The opposing team will always have the advantage.  And you don’t want to attack from the Gold lift, this is a death trap; a single opponent can take out an entire team with the throw of grenade or a power drainer and a Battle Rifle.  The best move a team can do is to travel up the pillars that support the Sword room; this area is almost always unguarded.  If this area is guarded then there is obviously an opponent gravity lift.  On the contrary, if the Opposing team is still controlling the lifts, but your team has the lead:  Be smart, don’t attack, but rather control the bottom of the map.  The basement of construct is easily the place of the map where a team least expects to be attacked.  It is wise to control this are as several non-expecting enemies will travel here.  Although there’s not much of a weapon choice; it is still very defend able.

Although Epitaph is not a usual Team based map, it is still important to know where your enemy is.  Epitaph is a symmetrical map which can sometimes be very confusing as to where you are located.  In the event that there is a custom team based game, it is important to know how to travel with your team.  The best way to go about controlling this map is to get to the Second Floor.  The best strategy for this map is to travel in pairs, because of the size of the map and the weapons on the map.  Sharp corners and narrow walkways make for close quarter combats.  If you are traveling as a team (4) and you come across an enemy who is carrying the Rocket Launcher, you probably just gave the other team a 4 point lead and a lot of motivation and momentum.  This is why pairs is the best way to work.  Controlling this map means covering the hottest spot of the map and the least active spot.  This would be the Monument Wing and the Gravity Wing.  Getting the shotgun or hammer and controlling the Monument wing is very important; this is where most of the team kills will come from.  Managing the Gravity Wing is important because you are able to prevent lone enemies from using the lift to the Rocket Launcher, and it is also a great spot to give your other teammates fire support.  Just grab the two carbines (least picked up weapons on the map) and then travel to the Gravity Wing.  The best spot is the balcony right in front of the Gold lift.

Guardian is a fast paced asymmetrical map that uses a team based strategy similar to the one used for Epitaph.  Again your team should travel in pairs.  Unlike Epitaph, almost every are of the map is a hot spot.  To control this map successfully.  One pair needs to control the Sniper area and the other the Flare room.  The Flare room is the best area on the map to provide cover fire for your teammates.  From this area you can control the shotgun area, the Lift Rooms, Center 2, and parts of the Jungle.  Just make sure you don’t stand next to the Plasma Cores.  Controlling the Sniper area means you control the sniper and the Over Shield, 2 deadly combinations.  This is the area where most of the team kills will come from.  The sniper area is like the black hole of Guardian; all players get sucked in to it, even when you know someone is waiting on the other side of the wall with a hammer.

High Ground is another asymmetrical map that is best played for objective games.  The best team strategy is to travel as a whole.  Most teams get confused where squad mates and eventually stray in their own direction.  Being able to travel and fight together as a team is the best way to counter attacks.  The only times a team should split is if the team controls the Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, Laser, or a ghost.  If your team controls one of these weapons then the best way to use these effectively is to split into a 3:1 team.  The three members that don’t control one of these will travel together; the player who controls one these needs to stay secluded and be discreet (excludes ghost).  If the team controls two or more then the team should split to pairs.  Never rush an enemy by yourself because there is always another enemy waiting on the other side, and a simple grenade is the difference between winning or loosing a battle.

Isolation is a symmetrical map which can be one or lost in an instance.  Traveling as a team is the best strategy for this map.  The spawn points are unpredictable and you will occasionally get attacked from behind.  In order to prevent the opposing team from flanking your team, it is important to find a spot on the map and control it.  Some teams find that controlling the High Ground is the best spot, but if you don’t have a sniper it’s really not going to do any good because the opposing team can pick off the high ground easily with a sniper. The least recognized areas are the Low grounds.  This may seem strange, but if you view your heatmaps you will see that there is very little activity in these areas.   Most teams and players do not expect attacks from these areas.  Having two teammates down in the low grounds to draw attention and then the other pair stationed at Blue 2 or Red 2 (depending on which low ground your at) to pick off the over-anxious players.  Another choice of concentration is the bottom portion of the map.  There is a lot of action here, but if you control the Rocket Launcher, you control the game.
