What are Creative Wanderings?
Welcome to a slice of my creative life. Anton Chekhov once said, "don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass." This website was created for just that purporse, to explore new
perspectives to old ideas. Many times I have found that my best work is the result of an unplanned creative surge. Albeit a matter of personal taste, I'd argue that some of the most successful narratives began as scribbles on scratch paper. I have countless receipts and chewing gum wrappers scrawled with ideas and one-liners of genius.
Let's think of trains for a moment. In East Texas, we have thousands of miles of tracks criss-crossing the land. There is a track that runs over a bridge near my house. Most days graffitied freight cars are trailing over the bridge. But on a rare occassion I get to see a passenger train from the Amtrak speeding over the bridge, carrying people somewhere along an East-West journey. Our minds are like those tracks-passageways for all sorts of thoughts. Creative Wanderings are those moments when your routine, pardon the pun, Train of Thought is paused so an imaginative Bullet Train of Epiphany can blaze through. Every time I catch myself daydreaming, I write the idea down and pursue it through to completion later.
Your process may be different. I think 'traveling art' is a beautiful image. Again sticking with our train theme, traveling art is the graffiti painted onto freight cars. The artists are sometimes called Freight Writers (how multimedia of them). When I'm stuck at a train track, waiting as the cars roll by, I watch the graffiti and wonder who painted it, where it started its journey, and how many thousands of people have seen it. There have been books, magazines, and even websites dedicated to these freight writers. Creative Wandering? I think so.
And so I call these bits of writing and artwork my creaitve wanderings. The purpose of this site is to showcase the various aspects of a creative life. Each artist featured on this site has taken unique steps to create their works. Please wander around and discover your own creative paths.

"So we follow our wandering paths, and the very darkness acts as our guide and our doubts reassure us." -Jean Pierre de-Cassaude

Sometimes I write most effectively when I don't have any expectations of myself. I can sit down to write with the plan of writing a novel, and only manage to tick out a few sloppy lines. It is the time that I spend letting my mind wander that I am able to write pages in minutes. This is creative wandering. I like to use the analogy of a kite. On a windy day we may take our bright red kite out to the fields to see it fly. It strains against the string, eager to fly higher, but we have anchored it to the ground by a string. We fear letting the string go and losing our beloved kite forever. But if we toss the kite into the air and let the string go, the wind will take the kite on the most glorious journey it ever hoped for.
