Tube of your choice (you don't have to use a graphic on it if you want it plain)
A font of your choice
and last, some patience lol
I would say this tutorial would be for an intermediate user. It uses no outside plug ins, but uses layers and if you don't know how to use the layers it could get confusing. I am using A tube from Joel Adams who is now C.I.L.M. I have a license to use this image so i can't share. But if you like his work you can go to C.I.L.M. and buy one of his great packages!
1. open your tube and choose a light and dark color from it with your eye dropper. Minimize the tube for the time being.
2. open a graphic 700 x 300 and make sure it's transparent. you can resize later to make sure it's the right size banner for what you need.
3. Make a gradient from your background and foreground with these settings
4. Get out your rectangle preset shape make sure your line width is at least 2 so you will have a bit of a border on it. (you can choose a different shape but i find rectangles look more professional) Convert it to raster layer when it's the size you want. Duplicate the layer so you have the same amount as the word or name you want.
5. Your boxes should all be the same size and in the shape you want now. Now on the top one duplicate that layer again and choose your pick tool so it's the one highlighted. Move it to one side and tilt it a bit (may be different than mine due to you using different amount of boxes or a different shape we just want one to look like it's falling away from the rest)
6. Hide your background layer and then merge visible. You will want a drop shadow on the box layers.
7. Now copy and paste your tube as a new layer. make sure it's the one on top and move it over to the side of your boxes. Resize it if necessary. Use your dropshadow on the layer with the tube as well.
8. Ok, before we get to the letters. Add your watermark and your copyright information now.
9. ok, one more step before we start the animated part. Remember your one box that is different? I want you to take your magic wand with these settings.
select the inside of that box, modify, expand by 1 and go back to your original tube (not the one on this graphic you are making but the original one. Take the face, a part of the body whatever you think will look best and copy it and paste into your selection on the graphic. Select none. Merge all flatten.
10. Add a border of at least 3 in your dark color.
Animation! Ok this is the tricky part. you are probably thinking cindi are you crazy there is no letters!! yep you be right! lol This is the way i do most things. you can't always animate like this but with something like this it's actually easier then you don't have to do all that merge visible at the end which can be annoying.
1. Convert your background layer to a raster. If you don't your magic wand will not work with this. Duplicate your layer as many times as you have letters. (ex cindi=5 layers)
2. Get the font you wish to use ready and the size. You can choose your color as well.
3. With your text tool on floating, Type the letter in the box that you wish. Add a drop shadow and select none. Do this on all the boxes with the next letter than the next and so on and so forth. make sure that you are doing it on differnet boxes and differnt layers, so it will be animated. (hint to make sure they are all going on their own layers and in the same spots as the previous after you select none, hide that layer and then activate the next layer.)
4. When you get done you will have a differnet letter on each box to spell your name (or your text) and each letter on a differnt layer. Now you can save it as a pspimage and open animation shop.
5. Open your graphic in animation shop, now this is the easy part. Got to the top blue bar on your graphic. click it and then hit ctrl A to highlight all your layers. this won't require different frame properties you want them to be consistent. Preview your graphic. if you like it that fast then optimize and save. But if you want to slow it down go to about 25 that's what mine is on. Mine was also going backwards. This happens a lot cause i do the layers so i don't get confused. This is a very easy fix. Go to Animation and reverse frames. It will automatically reverse your frames so your letters will be in the right order!
6. you are done! Make sure you save your graphic!!
