ASC7 Review

Ok lets start this thing off with an overview of the ASC7. The Following info can be found on their site...
Power Source: Spring Powered. NO gas. NO explosives.Lightweight: Weighs 2 lbs.
Dimensions: 8 1/2" L x 2" W x 3 3/4" H - Exactly the same as a real claymore.Set up: Can be set up in the field in less than a minute
Inexpensive: Reusable. Can use damaged, odd shaped or recycled BBs
Safe: Uses NO explosives. Consistent velocities.

As you can see, the ASC7 is VERY realistic! The look is exactly the
same as the real claymore and has legs that can be folded out (as in
the picture) and set on the ground or close the legs and it will be
able to lodge itself in the dirt. It is OD green and hides well into
foliage, unlike the CAW Trap, which is black and silver. The design that
was used is excellent! The claymore is set off by a latch located on
the top, when you depress the switch the latch raises and releases the
front cover which lets the mechanism inside shoot the BB’s. I also
noticed that with the wired switch there is a RCA connecter at the end
(which you can buy off their site or at a local hardware store), since
these connecters are so common it is easy to make your own switches. I
have toyed around with an infrared motion switch that I took off one of
those motion-activated lights, and it worked! I have also tried a
magnetic switch, you know when the magnetic connection is broken it
goes off. I tried it but I couldn’t get it to work but it is possible.
Basically the possibilities are endless when it comes down to custom
things on the ASC7
Pros: Very Realistic, Makes Cool
loud "POP" noise when set off, shoots 200+ BB's at your opponent, can
use pretty much anything as a projectile (ex. Popcorn kernels),
wireless or wired or tripwire activated, it is OD green (hides good in
the bushes), easy to make a custom trigger. There are much more pros on
the ASC7 but I just wanted to list the important things.
Cons:
Not much to say that’s wrong except for the durability issue and that
will be sorted out in a few months due to Supercell Development getting
them mass-produced, that will ensure that each and every unit will be
consistent and MUCH more durable. The new and improved claymore will be
available for purchase in about 2 months (give or take). I also would
like to add that it is limited to 1 FIELD DEPLOYMENT ONLY.(In my experience it has been limmited to only 1 time use, but if you are quick or if there is a break in the action it is possible to use the mine twice).
Loading:
There is a hole located on the front cover of the mine where you can
insert a speed loader or any BB loader to fill up the mine. The mine
holds more that 200 BB’s, but I suggest about 150 BB’s because it is
not too much so the BB’s go ten feet and drop, but not too little you
do not get a decent spread.
Deployment:
It is very simple to deploy in the field, it takes roughly about 30-60
seconds to take it out, fold out the legs, plug in the remote, and
remove the safety pin. As I stated above, this mine is limited to only
one field deployment each game, due to its loading time.
The
ASC7’s main function is an Anti-Personal mine. It is not lacking in the
power department either, like most mines or grenades. I know this for a
fact because the first thing I did when I got it was test it on myself!
It left welts on my legs from about 10 feet away; at point blank I got
a blood welt. Basically I think it feels like getting shot with a
spring pistol from 10ft away, I would guess 240FPS with 150 BB’s. They
just recently came up with a wireless unit to hook-up to the ASC7. I
would tell you a bit about it but unfortunately I haven't had the
chance to pick one of these up.
Overall: Overall I’d have
to give the ASC7 a 9/10 only because of the durability issue, but as I
said above that will be sorted out very soon. If you happen to have
some spare cash around I highly suggest picking one of these up... The
ASC7 is a key element to any Airsofter's Arsenal, and is very fun and
helpful in a skirmish.
