My Fishroom

This is a brief view of how my Fishroom is set up.  With this page you will be able to get a quick glimpse into how I breed and raise my Bettas.

The Barracks

The unit shown below is made using the directions for the Betta Wall I obtained from Ken and Wanda Newby (Riverbend Bettas).  The orginal plans can be found here.  I have modified it slightly to include the second wall.  I would like to thank the Newbys for allowing me to use the plans for their system.

This is a rendition of the Barracks I am building.  It is not completely finished yet.  I still have to purchase and install the main water pump, the UV sterilizer and the remainder of the Beanie Boxes.  Once I have it completed I will post an actual picture.

Once this system is up and running, the unit will continuously supply fresh filtered water to each container.  The water will overflow through a slot in the containers, drain into the gutter below and drain back into the sump area where it will be filtered and pumped back into the containers once again.  This unit is fashioned in a manner that I can shut off all water flow to a specific side or row of the barracks.  If I only need to run as few as 6 containers or all 109 it will be easy to accomplish just that.

The smaller wall on the left side is where I will house my Breeding Stock.  The right side is where I will house my juvies as they grow and start to show aggression.

The Barracks is now in operation.

After finally obtaining all the remaining components and fixing a few water leaks, I am happy to announce I finally have my barracks system up and running.  I only have the lower row of the breeder side running since I only have enough breeders to fill this row at the moment but I will be working on getting the juvie side running over the next few days.  It takes forever to drill all those holes in the Beanie Baby Cases for the drainage.

My goal at the moment is to get the juvie side up and running and putting the larger of the Pineapple juvies in it.  I still have several very small pineapples that I think will greatly benefit from moving the larger of the spawn to the barracks.

I think I will be very happy with this set up.  It has already made a difference in the breeders that are in the unit.  They are a lot more active with the constant flow of fresh water.  The males are building bubblenests also, something they had stopped doing.

Pictures will follow as I have time to take and post them.

For further information on the Pineapple spawn please check out The Kids page.
