Cranberry Tea Time

Welcome to my corner of the world!

Songs that Encourage Me

          These are four of my favorite songs.  The first one is by Steven Curtis Chapman.  I like this song because it reminds me to be patient and trust God.  He has a plan for my life, and His timing is perfect.  Sometimes I have wondered how God can use me with my health like this.  I’m not able to do much anymore compared to what I used to be able to do.  I sometimes think, “Wouldn’t it be better if I had the energy teach Sunday School again?  Wouldn’t it be better if I could serve my family by doing the cooking, cleaning, and shopping?  Wouldn’t it be better if I were able to take care of my elderly friend?  Wouldn’t it be better if I could prepare and take a meal to a family in need?”  When I start thinking these things, this song often pops into my head.  I am reminded that I need to wait on the Lord.  His plan for me, for now at least, includes living with disabling POTS.  Therefore I will choose to be patient and content and to wait on the Lord.

Wait

Words and Music by Steven Curtis Chapman

You wonder when the Lord will renew the strength within you;
You wonder how, how can He use you as you are.
Seems like you’re wasting precious time,
But then a voice comes to remind you to...

Chorus:
Wait, wait, wait on the Lord;
You will understand in time.
Why you must wait,
Wait, wait, wait on the Lord;
Yes He hears you,
But for now you must wait on the Lord.

Answers come slowly to your cries of desperation,
But time is His tool, teaching the greatest lessons learned;
So let Him do His work in you,
And watch the miracles come true as you...

(Chorus)

And He wants you to know that
They that wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They will rise up with wings as eagles,
They will run, not get weary.
They will walk and not faint;
That’s a promise to us when we wait.

(Chorus)

          This next song was one of my favorites in high school because I felt like the old woman in the song.  I like it because it reminds me of my home in heaven.  I have assurance that one day I will be in heaven with my Lord and Savior.  I will be in a place where there will be no more pain, no more crying, and no more need for a wheelchair.

No More Pain

Words and Music by Geoff Thurman and Becky Thurman

Sung by Point of Grace

She sits by the window with wandering eyes
She has a song in her heart
And a golden disguise
Her body is torn because age doesn't heal
She's not letting on
About the pain that she feels
But she knows in her soul
That it won't be too long
'Til Jesus comes back
To carry her home...

Chorus:
Where there will be no more pain
No more sorrow
No more waiting
For illusive tomorrows
There will be no more pain
No more dying
No more striving or strain
No more pain

My mind's eye remembers the trouble I've seen
All I have been through,
And how I long to be free
But I learn by her patience that I need her resolve
To wait for the opening of eternity's halls
And I know that in time we will stand side by side
When Jesus comes back receiving His bride

(Repeat Chorus) 3X

No more pain

          I like this next song because it reminds me to hold onto the hope that I have.  Even POTS can be a blessing in disguise!  Maybe someday I’ll make a page about all of the blessings I’ve received along with POTS.

A Blessing in Disguise

Words and Music by Terry Taylor

How often do we spot the angels?
Or feel the unseen hand?
Most times are tough, the going rough
Like there never was a master plan
Those steadfast doors won't open
And you pray...but you don't understand

Chorus:
Hold fast the hope that's in you
Don't always trust your eyes
Sometimes it takes a long time to see it as
A Blessing in Disguise

We live upon this dark surface
And God, He moves upon the deep
What is concealed will be revealed
There is no promise He won't keep
Still, we're confused by the shadows
We're awake, but we're half asleep

(Chorus)

Sometimes the dark can move our hearts
To long for the light of the Son
And our ways don't become His ways
Until we are undone

(Chorus)

And after you've been broken
You may not realize
That you are grace to the broken hearted
And a blessing in...
A blessing in...
You are a Blessing in Disguise

          One of my favorite hymns is It Is Well with My Soul.  The words are powerful, and the story behind them is inspiring.  This hymn was written by Horatio Spafford after several major trials in his life.  The first came in 1871 when his only son died.  Shortly after that Spafford, who was a real estate investor, was ruined financially by the Chicago Fire of 1871.  Two years later Spafford and his family were going to travel to Europe.  He sent his wife and four daughters ahead while he was delayed on business.  As his family crossed the Atlantic their ship collided with another, killing hundreds of people.  Spafford’s wife, Anna, sent him a telegram saying, “Saved alone.”  Spafford crossed the Atlantic to join his wife, and as his ship passed near the spot where his daughters died he wrote the words to It Is Well with My Soul.  This hymn tells of the hope that believers have no matter what trials come in life.  If you would like to learn more of the story and hear this beautiful hymn, you may scroll down and watch the video below.

It Is Well with My Soul

Words by Horatio G. Spafford, 1873

Music by Philip P. Bliss, 1876

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain:

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

Refrain

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

Refrain
