Central Pennsylvania Model Car Club

A Club For Scale Auto Enthusiasts Of All Ages

Club President - Mike Cole

Our club's president was born in Bloomsburg, PA, on May 23, 1954. (That's where the trouble all started...) He later moved with his family to West Chester and lived there in the same house for over 20 years. He relocated to Glen Moore for about ten years, and then finally settled in Peach Bottom in 1992.

Like many of us, he started building models as a pre-teen but then lost interest when he got wrapped up working on 1:1 vehicles. And again, just like many of us, he started and stopped building models several times since then. His favorite subjects are commercial vehicles, both light and heavy, an interest which has steered him down the tricky road of trying his hand at home-made decals. Although commercial vehicles are more his passion, you can--if you catch him in a fragile moment--get him to admit (confess?) to having built the occasional drag or street car.

That appreciation for trucks has come honest, as he has been a commercial driver for all of his working life, only taking a short break from it in the 80’s to manage a small fleet. When he’s not hauling freight or working on models or attending several different clubs’ meetings, he gets his groove on listening to early rock & roll, country oldies and maybe even some stray jazz and classical here and there.

When we asked Mike for content to use in his web profile, his dry humor was evident in some of the (ahem...) personal stuff he provided--and, as a courtesy to users of the internet everywhere, we’ve decided to leave the bits about long walks on the beach, crackling fireplaces, and puppies out all together. (Trust us on this one.)

Forgetting for a moment the disturbing mental images conjured up by what we didn't include in his profile, Mike brings a lot to the club and the office (Okay, so it's not really an office. It's folding tables and chairs in a fire hall.) and he keeps things interesting around here.

Vice President - Mike Dube

There's not much to tell about Mike, since he hasn't provided us with his official biography. Details are sketchy, and perhaps it's got something to do with that witness protection program...I'm just sayin'.

Mike has been a CPMCC member for several years and has shown a special talent for building old school vintage hot rods and drag cars. He's not by any means an old guy, but it's evident vintage hot rod blood runs through his veins. He also seems to like more modern styles of customs and has impressed us with his work on all types of models on many occasions.

Perhaps as important as anything else, Mike has been very involved in all club activities. You'll find him helping at the US30 Muscle Car Madness and the East Coast Nationals in York. He even counts up the monthly contest points at the meetings. The fact that he occasionally enters his own models, counts the votes and has not won Modeler of the Year each year tells us he's also one honest hombre...or simply can't count.

We're glad to have Mike in office and congratulate him on both his November nomination and subsquent election.

(See what happens when the web guy asks you for a copy of what you want said about you and you don't get it to him?)

Treasurer - Tony Shanko

My name is Tony Shanko, and I have been a member of the CPMCC since March 1986. I picked up a club application at Mel’s Hobbies in York City in February 1986. I have served as the club’s Treasurer since 1986, and have been President twice, Membership Coordinator, Secretary, Newsletter Publisher & Editor, & Special Events (picnic, Christmas party & annual dinner) Coordinator.

I was born in Trenton, New Jersey but lived in Florida, Maryland and Rhode Island since my Dad was in the US Navy for a total of thirty-three years. The family settled in Trenton in 1955, where I attended grade and high schools. I earned degrees in engineering from two schools located in Pennsylvania and New York, and have worked in the aerospace and refrigeration & air conditioning industries. I’ve been employed for twenty-seven years by York International Corporation, York, PA. My present position is a Principal Engineer of Large Tonnage Water Chiller Systems.

I’ve been married to my wife, Diana, for thirty-two years this October, and have three children – Chris, Amy and Adam, and six month old grandson – Ryan Christopher.

I’ve been modeling and collecting various things (models+50, die case+100, coins+100, stamps+100, tools+50, books+600, etc.) for forty-five years. I can’t remember either the model or manufacturer of my first model kit. No matter what is was, I built it within hours of purchasing it. My main interest is building stock sports and classic car models. I haven’t been actively building models for the last several years due to work and family obligations, even though I have three projects started.

Model building has always been special to me, and became more special after I joined the CPMCC. To be in the company of other model builders is something. Wow! The members of the CPMCC are more than eager to help answer any question, or advise locations of needed models, parts, etc. We all learn by asking questions, by doing and doing. You improve the more you practice. My number one recommendation to all model builders is to build for yourself, and learn by asking questions and listening to other builders.
