Our club's president was born in Bloomsburg, PA, on May 23, 1954. (That's where the trouble all started...) He later moved with his family to West Chester and lived there in the same house for over 20 years. He relocated to Glen Moore for about ten years, and then finally settled in Peach Bottom in 1992.
Like many of us, he started building models as a pre-teen but then lost interest when he got wrapped up working on 1:1 vehicles. And again, just like many of us, he started and stopped building models several times since then. His favorite subjects are commercial vehicles, both light and heavy, an interest which has steered him down the tricky road of trying his hand at home-made decals. Although commercial vehicles are more his passion, you can--if you catch him in a fragile moment--get him to admit (confess?) to having built the occasional drag or street car.
That appreciation for trucks has come honest, as he has been a commercial driver for all of his working life, only taking a short break from it in the 80’s to manage a small fleet. When he’s not hauling freight or working on models or attending several different clubs’ meetings, he gets his groove on listening to early rock & roll, country oldies and maybe even some stray jazz and classical here and there.
When we asked Mike for content to use in his web profile, his dry humor was evident in some of the (ahem...) personal stuff he provided--and, as a courtesy to users of the internet everywhere, we’ve decided to leave the bits about long walks on the beach, crackling fireplaces, and puppies out all together. (Trust us on this one.)
Forgetting for a moment the disturbing mental images conjured up by what we didn't include in his profile, Mike brings a lot to the club and the office (Okay, so it's not really an office. It's folding tables and chairs in a fire hall.) and he keeps things interesting around here.
There's not much to tell about Mike, since he hasn't provided us with his official biography. Details are sketchy, and perhaps it's got something to do with that witness protection program...I'm just sayin'.
Mike has been a CPMCC member for several years and has shown a special talent for building old school vintage hot rods and drag cars. He's not by any means an old guy, but it's evident vintage hot rod blood runs through his veins. He also seems to like more modern styles of customs and has impressed us with his work on all types of models on many occasions.
Perhaps as important as anything else, Mike has been very involved in all club activities. You'll find him helping at the US30 Muscle Car Madness and the East Coast Nationals in York. He even counts up the monthly contest points at the meetings. The fact that he occasionally enters his own models, counts the votes and has not won Modeler of the Year each year tells us he's also one honest hombre...or simply can't count.
We're glad to have Mike in office and congratulate him on both his November nomination and subsquent election.
(See what happens when the web guy asks you for a copy of what you want said about you and you don't get it to him?)
