WELCOME TO CAMP PENDLETON YOUNG MARINES

WHO ARE THE YOUNG MARINES?

The Young Marines of the Marine Corps League is the Commandant of the Marine Corps official program for drug demand reduction.  Membership is open to boys and girls between the ages of
8 and 18 who are interested in participating in a well rounded, year-round program with emphasis on the traditions and values of the United States Marine Corps.

The Camp Pendleton Young Marines (the Coyotes) have been active since 1985.  The current Commanding Officer is MGySgt Keith Sheffield (Ret) and our base sponsors are the Assault Amphibian School Battalion, MEF Headquarters Group (IMHG), and Headquartes & Support Battalion MCB CamPen.  As with all other YM units, the Coyotes are self sufficient and must raise money to cover transportation, encampments, supplies and other expenses through fund raisers and charitable donations.  The Young Marines have been granted 501 (c) 3 status by the Internal Revenue Service, therefore, all donations from business and private citizens are tax deductible.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Young Marines is to provide an organized program devoted to development of character and physical fitness in the youth of America, as exemplified by the United States Marine Corps.  Character building is one of the most important objectives of the program and all of the activities emphasize the importance of honesty, courage, respect, loyalty, dependability and a sense of devotion to God, Country, Community and Family.  The Young Marines offer classes on a variety of subjects including: Land Navigation, close order drill, mountain survival, customs and courtesy, clothing care, physical fitness, drug reduction and gang prevention, just to name a few.

The Camp Pendleton Young Marines meet every Saturday except for major holiday Saturdays from 9-1:00pm unless dictated by that day's event.  We meet at the Corporal Course building #21441 Del Mar area aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.

For more information, please contact MGySgt Keith Sheffield (Ret) at (951) 672-0878, sheffieldk@hotmail.com or any Registered Adult Staff on the contact page.
