The Market Theatre, Cowbridge

The best little theatre in the Vale

Welcome to The Market Theatre

The Market Theatre is situated in the town of Cowbridge, in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan.  It was built largely by volunteers some forty years ago and is a small theatre with a capacity of sixty-five very comfortable seats.  It offers all the facilities of much larger venue including a full-size stage with professional quality lighting, dressing rooms, an excellent sound system, a high quality electronic piano, an excellent well-stocked bar with associated kitchen facilities, and there is ample car parking.

The Market Theatre is run by the resident group, Cowbridge Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS) who try to stage three main productions a year. It is the aim of the committee to present a varied programme and see that the theatre becomes a prominent part of the local community.

The theatre is also available for hire by visiting groups - either of theatre players or other organisations. The stage setting and auditorium make it ideal for small conferences; for smaller groups the bar area, equipped with tables and chairs, makes a suitable venue for meetings of clubs and societies.

The theatre can either be hired out at an hourly rate, or per event. Hiring terms for performances can be negotiable. Groups using the theatre need to ensure appropriate insurance cover for their activities as CADS own insurance only covers CADS own members and audiences.

We have quite a large selection of costumes which can be hired by special arrangement with the Costumes Mistress, Brenda.
