COVENTRY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER
WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE
LADY PATRIOTS
Two Lady Pats Are Recognized!
Recently two of Coventry’s players were singled out for regional honors following the completion of outstanding seasons. Midfielder Amber Pelletier, a sophomore, was named to the 2008 All-State Team! Congratulations Amber…an honor well deserved!
Both Amber and Junior Forward Kristin Pearson were named to the 2008 North Central Connecticut Conference All-Conference Team. Again, both well deserved honors !
Finally, Coach Warren Herrington has named both Brittany Pietro and Kristin Pearson to be Co-Captains of the 2009 team.
Lady Pats Open the Season with a BIG win !
Coventry, CT…Led by aggressive play on both sides of the ball, The Lady Patriots opened their 2008 season with a big win over Windsor Locks. Jess Dilk was strong in goal and was fronted by a defense that limted Windsor Locks’ shots on net. Scoring goals for the Patriots were Sarah Marchand, Amber Pelletier and Kristin Pearson twice. Each and every player stepped up and stepped in, winning 50/50 balls and passing well. It was a great start to what should be the best season in years for the Lady Pats. Come out and watch the next game…at Somers, Friday, September 12.
One Gets Away
Somers, CT...As the Journal Inquirer reported... "Neither team could find the net until late in the game as Somers finally put away Coventry. With about 32 minutes to go in the game, Somers scored to grab a lead. About six minutes later, a penalty kick gave them the breathing room that they would need. With 23 minutes to go in the game, Kristin Pearson scored off a deflection for Coventry. Jess Dilk made seven saves" for the Lady Pats as they move to 1-1
A Win is a Win
Coventry, CT...As the Journal Inquirer put it..."Becky Santos scored 22 minutes into the first half to give Coventry a win over Stafford. Amber Pelletier had the assist on Becky's goal. Jess Dilk had four saves to earn the shutout." While it certainly was not the best outing of the young season, it allows the Lady Pats to maintain a winning record and to recognize that they can step it up against Canton at home on Friday. Be there to help them!
A Commanding Win
Coventry, CT...Per the Journal Inquirer..."Kristin Pearson collected two goals as Coventry blanked visiting NCCC rival Canton by a score of 4-0. Amber Pelletier and Kara Peters each had one goal. Jess Dilk posted the shutout. Fullbaks Ada Peters and Ashlyn Anderson were standouts". Next game Tuesday at East Granby. Hope to see you there as the Lady pats continue their march to the playoffs. This Team is for REAL !!!
East Granby, CT...Goals by Ashley Lehman, Becki Santos, Brittany Pietro and Kristin Pearson allowed the Lady Pats to take a one-sider from East Granby by a score of 4-0. Jess Dilk registered her third consecutive shutout. One of the keys to this game was the strong play of the defense which allowed the offensive line to remain in East Granby "territory" for virtually the entire game. On to Bolton Friday!
A Comeback to Tie it Up
Granby, CT...Per the Journal Inquirer..."Kristin Pearson's goal with 4:44 left gave Coventry at NCCC tie at Granby. Sarah Marchand assisted on Pearson's goal for the Patriots (4-1-1). Jessica Dilk made seven saves in the Coventry net and was aided by the defensive play of Kaitlyn Caldwell, Ahlyn Anderson and Ada Peters." The Lady Pats return home Friday afternoon to take on Enfield. See you there!
"Coventry Stretches Unbeaten Streak to 5"
Coventry, CT...per the Journal Inquirer...While teams like Tolland, Suffield and Somers are getting most of the notice in the North Central Connecticut Conference, the Coventry girls soccer team is quietly slipping under the radar. Ashley Leamon, Amber Pelletier, Kristin Pearson and Sarah Marchand each scored one goal as Coventry stretched its unbeaten streak to five with a 4-0 victory over Enfield on Friday. Becky Santos, Leamon and Marchand had assists for the Lady Patriots who are now 5-1-1 (3-0-1). Jessica Dilk made two saves to earn the shutout." Next week sees the Lady Pats entangling with Suffield and Tolland. They'll need your support cheering them along as they look to add to their great record.
Ouch!
Coventry, CT...The score makes it look worse than it was. Actually, Jessica Dilk played outstanding in net (15 saves!) as the Lady Patriots gave it their all against Suffield. One of the 2 Suffield first half goals came on a PK for a "handball" in the box, else the momentum might have been a bit different as they headed into the 2nd stanza. It was a great effort by the entire team and a good tune-up for their next opponent, Tolland on Friday! See you there! Watch the slideshow of pictures taken by Bill Ives
Sometimes Lady Luck Does Not Get on The Bus!
Tolland, CT...Despite an excellent effort by all (13, more on that later) of Coventry's players, Tolland was able to catch a few breaks and take one from the Lady Pats. With goalkeeper Jess Dilk out ill, freshman Tierney Morton substituted VERY well and kept the team in contention. At the half, it was only 1-0, despite several missed quality scoring opportunities for Coventry. Also on "sick leave" was senior back Ashley Leamon and as such, the Lady Pats had just too little steam in their engine to mount a comeback. Of significance was the fact that Coventry outshot the conference undefeated Tolland team 19-16. Too bad we won't play them again this year, as straight up, there well could be a different outcome. Next game...Avon at home on Tuesday!
Foiled Again
Coventry, CT...Per the JI..."The teams combined for three goals in the first six minutes" Unfortunately, only one of those was for the Lady Pats. Ashley Leamon's goal would be all the Coventry could muster for the day, as the team suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of Avon. This result, despite great play by Amber Pelletier and 15 saves by Jess Dilk. The make up game with Bolton will be next. Pictures from the game courtesy of Bill Ives.
"Pearson, Dilk Secure Coventry Tourney Bid"
Bolton, CT...Per the Journal Inquirer..."The Coventry girls soccer team went on the road Wednesday and brought home a stste tournament bid. Kristin Pearson scored twice in the second half as the Patriots topped Bolton 2-0. Jessica Dilk earned the shutout for the Lady Patriots who snapped a three game losing streak in which they were outscored 13-2. Jess made 4 saves. The Lady Patriots play host to East Windsor on Friday. Click here for pictures from the Bolton game, thanks to Bill Ives.
Back to Winning Ways
Coventry, CT...Six Coventry players combined for golas as the Lady Patriots rolled over struggling East Windsor. Tallying for Coventry were Sarah Marchand, Kara Peters, Emily Zurmuhlen, Jessica Dilk, Ashlyn Anderson and Kaitlyn Caldwell. Becky Santos assisted on two if the goals. Tierney Morton kept the nets empty and earned the shutout in only her second varsity appearance! The Lady Pats travel to Ellington on Tuesday. Bill Ives took some great shots of this game too...click here to check those out.
We Could'a Had This One
Ellington, CT...A quick goal by Ellington less than one minute into the game caused the Pats to work from behind all game long. Work they did, as the score does reflect the way the game was played. Particularly in th second half, the Lady Patriots poured on the offensive pressure, they simply could not "ring the bell". A good and strong showing bodes well for the future contests. Senior night in Coventry on Friday. See everyone there!
GGGGGGGGGggggggRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Coventry, CT...."We totally outplayed them" exclaimed Coach Herrington. Indeed the box score validated that comment. The Lady Pats outshot visiting Somers on Senior Day by a margin of 15-3! Playing outstanding defense were Kaitlyn Caldwell, Ada Peters, Ashlyn Anderson and Sarah Mills. Jessica Dilk was amazing on the net and the Pats gave the last year's state finalists a scare. The Somers goal came on a penalty shot in the second half. It was one of the few times that they visited that proximity to the net. This Coventry team's got some stuff to display as they approach the State Tournament...be there to catch the action Monday night in Windsor Locks! Bill Ives captured great game shots as well as Senior Night festivities. Check them out here.
Under the Lights in the "Locks"
Windsor Locks...Again, despite incredible offensive pressure from the Coventry 11, they could not hit the net. No doubt a frustrating evening for the ladies, as lately they've been doing everything so well except for lighting up the scoreboard. Last game Wednesday at Stafford. Let's finish the regular season with a BIG win, we'll need all our fans to cheer them on!
BBBRRRbbbrrr...
Stafford Springs...Summer's gone for sure. It must be tournament time, as the cold weather has arrived and the bench has expanded! The Lady Pats peppered Stafford with shots, but only one of them off the foot of Amber Pelletier found the net, as the Stafford team gave a few scares. It's time to get ready for the State Tournament. be there as the Lady Pats pursue the State Championship starting Thursday at 2:00 in Cromwell.

One and Out L
Cromwell...from the Journal Inquirer..."Coventry had some good scoring opportunities, including one where Cromwell cleared the ball from the goal line in the first half. "It could have easily been a 2-2 game" Coventry coach Warren Herrington said. They're a good team but they finished and we didn't, that's the only difference. I'm very proud of my girls and they played hard." The Lady Patriots put out a strong effort and kept the #4 seeded team in check for the most part. "It was back and forth" Herrington said. "it wasn't one of those games where they were hammering us and we held on and we only let them score twice. It was back and forth the whole game pretty much." Sarah Mills, Sarah Marchand and Amber Pelletier played well for Coventry. Jessica Dilk made 11 saves for the Lady Patriots.
CONGRATULATIONS LADIES AND THANK YOU FOR AN EXCITING SEASON!
