Beaten back from the Westlands, the continent of Seanchan remains largely as it has always been. Women who are found to be able to channel are made damane, leashed and collared. The sul'dam, those who control the damane, are held in high esteem, and it is unknown by all but a few that these women, too, can be taught to channel. With the death of the previous Empress, her daughter, Brigitte Ishara Kandari Amadraeya Paendrag, has ascended the Crystal Throne, vowing revenge. Unable to find her mother's murderer, she has set her sights on the outlying tribes in the Seanchan countryside; next, the mainland ...
