About the SchoolMy name is Angela Higgs and I have owned the dance school since 1983. I have lived in Bedford since 1975 and taught for the previous owner for several years before taking over the business. The school has developed extensively over the last few years with 2 fully qualified teachers, and two student teachers. Being a qualified teacher means that we all had extensive training in teaching methods which ended with an examination in order to become, in my case, a member of the International Dance Teachers Association. We teach ballroom, latin american and sequence dancing over 4 evenings a week, plus some daytime classes, and private lessons. Although we do not have our own dance studio, we are lucky in Bedford to have two excellent community centres run by the Borough Council - Tavistock and Cauldwell Community Centres, plus a privately owned hall which we use once a week. By working from these centres we can offer lessons at different locations around the town, therefore, one of these should be close to where you live. What we can offerOur aim is to provide SOCIAL dance lessons from absolute beginner level to advanced standard. Whether you have a company dance to attend, or you want to dance at your wedding, or you simply want to take some exercise, there is always a suitable class we can offer you. Most classes are an hour long, on a weekly basis. Due to demand owing to the recent popularity of 'Strictly Come Dancing' we offer new classes on a regular basis. A beginners class will start with easy steps in a slow rhythm which will help you get used to dancing with a partner! and we usually introduce a latin rhythm as well, which can be cha cha or jive. We can guarantee you will go home being able to dance - it will not be to Strictly Come Dancing standard but you will feel you have achieved something. The next week will start with revision of last week's steps and then gradually introducing other dances such as quickstep, waltz, rumba, and sometimes salsa. An intermediate class will have learnt all the basic steps in the above dances and will continue to improve their style and learn new figures. New dances will include Tango and Samba. Advanced classes will deal with intricate figures and amalgamations as well as looking at technique and style. Medal classes are for anyone from beginner level to advanced who want to have a go. Technique, style and poise are important to achieve a medal but its good fun. Private Lessons are for anybody who needs to learn quickly or who would like a little extra tuition as well as their general class. Mostly our classes are attended by couples but we also have ladies who like to learn to dance who do not have a male partner. We can only reserve places for a small number of solo ladies as of course the teachers cannot dance with them for a whole lesson. Try to bring a partner if you can. If you are a solo male wishing to learn, then there will always be partners for you. WHAT TO DO NEXTTake a look at the 'Classes coming soon' page and the current classes page on this site.
