Bradford's historic chapter in the 'Sons of the Desert'

'County Hospital' tent's 'Sons of the Desert' BBQ

Every August, the 'County Hospital' tent hosts an BBQ Sons of the Desert and guests, this unique event takes place in the breath-taking garden of the 'Shoulder of Mutton', one of the oldest public houses in Bradford and one of the most famous!

Last year was a hugh success, festivities included a sensational spread and BBQ, music, a bumper raffle and a Laurel and Hardy quiz!  Don't miss the chance to come along this time!  Tickets are available at all 'County Hospital' (Bradford) and 'One Good Turn' (Huddersfield) 2005 tent meetings from Craig Lightowler, Andy O'Brien and Sam Collier OR send cheques (payable to 'County Hospital', Bradford).  To obtain the address, please e-mail us on CountyHospital@hotmail.com

'Ulverston Carnival'

Our annual day trip to Ulverston (Stan Laurel's birthplace) to take part in the carnival parade with the other 'Sons of the Desert'.  David Brian usually organizes this enjoyable outing for 'County Hospital' and our sister-tent, 'One Good Turn'.


The Rex Cinema presents Laurel and Hardy!

Every year, the historic and famous Rex Cinema in Elland, West Yorkshire has an evening of classic Laurel and Hardy films screened and presented as they would have been back when the movies when first released - this year was no acception!

On Saturday, 13th March, fans flocked to Coronation Street, Elland for what would be a sell-out event and most of these fans were of course Sons from the Bradford, Huddersfield, Sheffield and Tingley tents.  Nancy Wardell and Bradford's very own Craig Lightowler gave Laurel and Hardy prizes for the raffle out during the interval and live music was provided throughout the night by the exceptional veteran organist, Dr. Arnold Loxam who also provided sound effects for the silent film.

The evening's programme was as follows...

Interval with Dr. Loxham on organ, the raffle being drawn and a "thank you" from Nancy Wardell to all who attended and have recently given to her charity fund.
