10 Points

1. Business and Community Plan

Princeton lacks direction. What is needed is a business and community development plan, a plan that would outline the direction that the community will take over the next 10 plus years in regards to business and industrial development, diversity, and sustainability. We also need a community plan to point the direction for town hall to work towards when dealing with social issues and growth.

2. Tourism

Tourism is one of Princeton's biggest industries, but it could be bigger and better. We need to advertise Princeton further. The Town, with the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce and local business, should develop and implement a Princeton advertising campaign. Letting everyone know what Princeton has to offer.

3. Unemployment

Princeton has a large unemployed population and no real opportunities to put unemployed people back to work. We need to have jobs for the young people getting out of high school, and for people returning from college and university and we need to keep those people in town, employed. To do this Princeton needs to hang an “Open for Business” sign and start to diversifying the economy.

4. Youth Development

The youth of the economy need every opportunity possible to become part of the society. I would advocate that the municipality with other business groups in town, develop a youth business program and a youth citizens program to give Princeton's kids the best opportunity possible.

5. Social Issues

We need to take a tough stance on unemployment, youth crime, drugs and the other social issues that are bringing our community down. I believe that strong leadership would be the way to tackle these issues. No matter the size of the social issue it affects us all. A strong community is essential for success.

 6. Seniors

With current Liberal cuts Seniors in BC are taking some of the biggest hits. I believe that local governments represent the people at the most basic level and therefore should be advocating for those people that they represent by challenging those decisions made that negatively effect their constituents. We all have rights!

7. Waste Management

Princeton needs a working recycle program that is cost effective and realistic.

8. Provincial Funding

With current Liberal Cuts, we as a rural community need to stay on our toes. With proposed “downloading” rural communities are going to be taking on more and more of the financial burden of regional services. Rural BC is the engine behind BC's economy yet we get the least back. Municipal government should be brining such inadequate allocation of provincial funds to the attention of the Provincial government until it acts appropriately.

9. Accountability

I believe that the first thing a council should do when it takes office is come up with a plan. This plan is what drives the council for the year or years to come. I also believe that such a plan should be public knowledge so when the council strays from its commitments it can be held to the plan. I also believe strongly that when a person takes public office he/she works for the people. Therefore he/she must do what is in the best interest of those people and not for themselves.

10. Openness

As I stated in point 9, a councillor works for the people, the council is the voice of the people. I strongly believe that democracy can only work if there is openness between the politicians and the people. So, for council to work it must be open, it cannot hide behind closed doors. The issues must be brought before the council and not stopped at the door.

These are the issues I ran on. I am still committed to them as I was the day I originally wrote them down.
