Cossack M.C.C.

                                              Welcome

Welcome, to my attempt at a Cossack MCC web site, set up as a place for people to share memories and keep in touch with old friends.

I have found some information about the origins of the club by talking to various founder members and as reported in the Gloucestershire Echo.

The club was formed in December 1965 to give the bikers, often maligned by other sections of society, somewhere they belonged, a clubhouse, land to ride on and a workshop. Geoffrey Allen was the driving force and the first temporary base was at Northlands Youth Centre in Pittville Circus. With help from Cheltenham Corporation, the Youth Service and the National Association for Boys Clubs, a permanent base was secured.

The Corporation bought the old police station in Tewkesbury Road, to demolish it, but instead let Cheltenham Cossack Motorcycle Club move in. It made the Echo's front page on September 10th  1966.

The club was on the move again in 1968 (when the clubhouse burnt down), to a new base in Arle Road. Disaster struck again when the new clubhouse burnt down in November 1981.

I Joined the Cossacks in 1972, became a member of the committee for a few years and was made a life member in 1981 (for my services to the club) by Pete Trigg, a couple of months  before the clubhouse burnt down in November.

I had many happy years riding and partying with the Cossacks and now enjoy seeing lots of old faces and sharing memories at the annual reunions, big thanks to Les & Jill, for organising them.

Sadly Les passed away on 16th September 2014.

He was a great friend and helped many people throughout his life.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

A few members have asked for more regular meets closer to town, so I have arranged quarterly meets, (one for each season) at the Aviator, Staverton Airport .

I am having a few problems with this site, as I keep running out of storage space, so I have set up a Cossack MCC Memories page on Facebook

Hope to see you at one of the reunions!
