Corton birding

About the site

This site aims to detail bird migration within my home parish of Corton in Suffolk and surrounding area. The site is often excellent for migration, mainly in autumn and has produced such gems as Alpine Accentor, Olive-backed Pipit, Arctic Warbler, Rustic Bunting, Pine Bunting, 3 Dusky Warblers, Great Snipe and Buff-breasted Sandpiper to name but a few. I will try to include a site guide in the near future as well as some photos along with regular diary entries.

About Me

My name is James Brown and I have been am active birder since the age of 10 mainly in east Anglia, laterly concentrating on the Lowestoft area and Suffolk, though i have visted most of the country in pursuit of birds and have worked on RSPB reserves such as Radipole Lake, Dorset. Stints at Southampton and York Universities also familiarised myself with birding in Dorset and Yorkshire and I have visited the likes of Fair Ilse, Shetland.

In the past i have been an avid yearlister (315 nationally in 2002 and 257 in Suffolk in 2003) but recent politics have tempered that urge somewhat. I now intend to concentrate on the local patch (Lowestoft area total of 218 acheived in 2004) and bird finding. Having said that I am currently undertaking another Suffolk yearlist as at least it gets me enthusiastic and out in the field...

I have been fortunate enough to find a few good birds over the years such as 3 Great Snipes, Red-flanked Bluetail and a Black-winged Pratincole. I have written sections for the Suffolk annual bird report and have stood on the Suffolk Ornithological records commitee.
