Corgis 4 You 2

Update from new home!  10-2-08

Hi Laura,

Here is a really cute picture of Ms. Chopper.  She's doing great and growing fast!  We're enjoying every day with her. She has such a funny personality and demeanor it's perfect- she was definitely meant for us.

She loves camping and fishing!  And water.....be it cold or not is no problem!!!!  We were camping a few weeks ago and had to cross a small section of the river to get to our fishing spot and Brian and I and Brutus (3 yr old Frenchie) walked across a log to get to the other side.  Chopper jumped right in the water and swam across without even thinking twice.  It was great!

Well I wanted to say hello and share her 19 week old picture with you.  I hope you and your family are well.

Take care,

Update 8-28-08

Hi Laura!
Just wanted to give you an update on Roux- he's just the best. He's doing great, and everyone loves him; my grandma said he was the cutest puppy she had ever seen, and my grandma doesn't even like animals! He's super friendly and wants to say hi to everyone. Potty training is going really well too; he can go all night without an accident and is even starting to go to the door when he needs to go out. I think he must be a genius! ;-)   He and the cats are also doing well. He doesn't harass them, although sometimes he wants to play and can't understand why they don't, but overall they're all doing well together. Anyway, I hope all is well with you. Thanks again for the great puppy!

Update from new home.  May 21,2008

Hi Laura.  I know Jack e-mailed pictures of Lacy to you from his work today.  I just wanted to let you know how much I am already in love with Lacy.  I can't believe I worried like I did.  Shes perfect!  I would not hesitate to get another Corgi from you again if I were going to get another.  I know I wouldn't worry like I did this time.  There was a short time there where I was thinking I should have taken Sushi.  I am so glad I didn't.  Like I said Lacy is perfect and we are really enjoying her including Heidi.  Thank you so much for all the love, care and time you gave her.  Diane

Update Ocober 6, 2008

Laura I hope all is going well with you & your family.  I thought you would like to see how Lacy is growing.  She is such a delight, the happiest puppy I have ever seen.  You were right on the mark when you told us she was the one in the litter that loved to play.  She still does, she opens her eyes in the morning and the new day was made for her to play. We are enjoying her so much. She is almost the same size as Heidi now, so when they play together she is able to hold her own, it is very quite to watch. I will keep you posted as time goes by.

Hi!!!

Just wanted to let you know that Josie is SUCH a bunch of delight!  We've had lots of people come meet her and everyone just loves her.  I still am amazed at how the relationship between Josie and Lia (our cat) is building.  Josie saw her this morning and her little tail was wagging a gazillion miles per hour!  They seem to read one another very well.........so far.  It's fun to watch them learn about one another.  Although Josie gently bit Lia's tail (an enticing treat, the way it moves around-)... Lia just jumped back a bit and, once again, went right up to Josie's nose.  They'll be good friends, I can tell.

I put a little collar on Josie yesterday and she hated it!  She went into running mode around her allowed area, trying to get the collar off.  It really bothered her, and it's a very lightweight collar.  Today was a lot better, and I know she will get used to it quickly.  We tried to distract her from the "burden" around her neck.  She will be fine in a day or two.

We went to our vet today and Josie was a big hit.  She met all the staff.  She didn't like having her ears checked or her nails clipped, so we're playing with all those parts, trying to get her used to us handling her.  She'll go back in 2 weeks for her second shot series, starting an Advantage (or another brand) program, etc.  I asked the vet about parvo, and she did mention that there are definite "environmental pockets" where the disease is more prevalent---mentioning parts of L.A and Sacramento.  She thought that it would be just fine for Josie to visit my mom's and brother's house, with adult dogs who have had all their vacc.'s, but I still want to wait a bit longer.  Parks and walk around the neighborhood are definitely out for now.  Better safe than sorry.  But she did say that in all of her years working here in Santa Clara, she only had two cases of Parvo, both in the same family.

In the backyard, Josie has been getting a lot of exercise.  She loves to run by our side and to play soccer with a regular sized ball. (!)  She also has a smaller ball that she is learning to fetch.  When she nips our ankles, we give her a hand signal to stop, and so far- she sits her bottom down right away.  SHE IS ADORABLE!!!!  Her crate training has been going wonderfully.  She only whines occasionally, a few minutes last night, and some when she woke up today....but putting her to bed in her crate has been great.  We have her crate in a nice area in the kitchen, with an area of "traffic" during the day, as well as a place that we always have to walk through at night.  Often, I see her just sitting there and watching us.....with no complaints at all.  Then she sleeps.  Our kitchen is the place where we always are, every day, always family-- and a lot of the boys' friends too.

No accidents through the night.  I know that will come over the next few months.  Much comes as we learn how to better monitor how long she's been playing.  We carry her to a spot outside on the cement for potty as soon as she gets up, or if she's been eating or playing for 20 minutes, and so far all has been good.

She's been slowly munching on a pigs ear, and has lots of chew toys.  Her favorite at this time is a little elephant that she's learned how to make squeak, and the trunk and tail flop out when it squeaks.  At first Josie was a bit scared, but today she loves it and tries to make it squeak all the time!  Her gentle growling and pouncing reminds me of how she played with her siblings.

Laura, I don't mean to go on-and-on with comments.... I just am so very pleased with her and I wanted you to know how much we love her.  It truly does seem as if she was meant to be ours, and for us to be hers.  Everything just flowed when we walked her in the door.  Thanks again to you and your family for all the love you give your dogs and their puppies.  It's incredible to bring such a socialized member into our home.  I can't thank you enough.

We'll take pictures ASAP!  (I have to have my boys teach me how to use the camera/computer stuff so that I can send you photos.)

Update  8-12-07

STILL haven't gotten a photo out to you, but I will!!  You're right, her face has lightened up a lot and the red color is beautiful.  The day after her ears both stood up, they laid down!  She looks like Yoda!

Because we can't yet walk her, we took her to a Puppy Social today.  Her puppy training starts Tues., and this social is something that happens every Sun., where the pups just play and socialize with one another.  Josie was the best pup there!!!  Really!  The very rowdy pups and the very shy pups, all took a liking to her.  They do this indoors, with trainers monitoring and all us parents doing nothing but observing.  She really had a great temperament and was liked by all....even a bit of an older pup, an Australian Shep. mix, who was very big....and the Aussie took to her immediately.  You would be so proud!  She even got a poodle mix who was very shy, to play!

Okay Laura, forgive me for taking so long to send photos.  We love her so much and are so happy with her.

Say hello to your family and tell them that Josie (Diamond) says Thank You for all their love.

Update  9-12-07

Hi Laura-

Here's some of Josie when we first brought her home, and some that we took a week ago.  You're right, the tri's really change.  She was only 5 pounds when we brought her home, and on Sat., she was 11.2 pounds!  We're enjoying her so much!  We all spend a lot of time with her, so she's become very close to all of us.  She graduates from her puppy class on Tues., but we'll still be working with her (my bro-in-law takes the puppy 2 classes and will send us all the homework.)  Josie goes to puppy socials weekly, and will start playdates at the park with pups she already knows, when she has her last set of shots.....and she just loves her friends.  She also holds her own with the rowdy dogs...she's very well adjusted.  Thanks again!!!!!  We're so lucky to have her!!!!

How are your dogs? Are you planning on breeding them any time soon? Hope your kids are having a good beginning of the school year.  I've got a new bunch of kindergarteners that are very cute.  It's SO nice having 20 in the classroom again.

 Take good care.

Update 2-21-08

Hi Laura!

My husband got on your website and saw that you're hoping to have an upcoming litter.  How exciting!!!  We'll be checking, just to see what's going on.

I just wanted to let you know how much we love Josie!  Through Sirius dog training, Josie will be 'graduating' from Puppy 2 class next week, and in March, she'll be starting Puppy 3.  She is fantastic!  She learns everything so fast and, although she gets really distracted during class, she has come very far and is such an incredible puppy!  I continue to take her to the puppy socials every Sunday.  I can't remember if I told you, but she is very social and the trainers always use her to bring-out super shy pups and to calm down very aggressive pups.  You'd be so proud!  There are 4 Pembrokes in our social now.  Lucy is the youngest. Lucy would never play with a dog, so the trainers put her and Josie together.  Josie acted like a mom and spent about 30 minutes with Lucy, actually teaching her how to play.  It was wonderful to watch.

Anyway Laura----we have been so lucky to have found you and Josie!  Timing was everything, and we all are so happy.  I know that your family did a great job socializing the pups, and I know how beneficial it will be to your future litters to have that family interaction.

I'll get pictures and send them on over to you.

I hope you're doing well.  Say hello to your family.

Mychele

Update from new home. 1/22/07

Hi,

Just wanted you to know how much fun we are having.  Jody is doing well, her & the cat (Puma) are absolutely inseparable...I put the cat's bed next to the crate just so they could be closer.  She has made it two nights without using the crate to potty in.  Leash training was taken up so fast it was crazy.   My whole family keeps threatening me that they are going to steal her I said sure you train her & I'll  steal her back.  She definitely has a mind of her own but for me she will do anything I ask.  When Josh is sitting on the ground she loves to lay in his lap.  Her #1 favorite thing to do is cuddle.  Today is my bday & this morning all she did was follow me around almost like she knew she had to give me special attention today.  I love her more than anything....

Update 8/7/07

Hi Laura,

Just wanted to send you and update. Jody is amazing everyone loves her and she still steals the show at the dog park. She is still doing great about sitting politely at the door when she has to go potty and training has been a breeze! She has gotten very into sitting and staying and we throw the toy and she'll wait till we say get it... then she runs like crazy to get whatever we throw, just to bring it back and do it all over again. As you can see her coat never really changed, we thought she might get a little red but it ended up just being her undercoat blowing out. Basically I cant wait to get another one.. maybe when we move to AZ you can ship us another one !!!! Well thank you again and hope you enjoy the pics..

 Dear Laura,
Sorry it’s taken so long to respond to you about Spencer. He’s doing great. He follows me everywhere and loves to play with everyone; especially our yorkie, Zoey. He has the tendency of finding random objects and carrying them around the house and is getting used to walking on a leash. I love him more than anything and he’s the # 1 joy in my life! Thank you so much for giving me my first Corgi!
Spencer  Sincerely,
                                                              Jessica

Hi Laura,

Seamus is doing great!  He's been sleeping in his crate over night and hasn't whimpered at all!  He's very energetic and has a couple of new favorite toys including a little stuffed puppy that looks like him!  Our cat Chloe is very curious about him and he sits or lays down and acts very calm when she comes to check him out.  What a good boy!  Here's a couple of pictures of him.

Thanks again for raising such a happy and healthy puppy!  We're so glad to have him!

Update 8/15/07

Hi Laura,

Seamus is doing great!  He has so much energy we can't wait till we can take him for walks.  He still sleeps through the night and sits on command (most of the time).  He's starting to get the hang of stay too.  We're trying to train him to go to his house like you have your dogs trained to do.  We're wondering how you did that.  Normally we just encourage him to go in with a treat or a toy.  It seems like a good place to start but we wanted to know if you had suggestions.

I also wanted to know what kind of shampoo you use for your dogs.  We tried the Hartz puppy brand and he got a rash.  It's gone now and I've used baby shampoo.  No more rashes but he seems like he is really itchy.  Do you have a suggestion?

Here's a picture of his ears up.  They both went up last Saturday and although I loved his little floppy ears, he is very handsome with his big corgi ears!

Thanks,  Shannon
