CUSTOM DECK BUILDING

WHAT ARE ALLIANCE CARDS?

Alliance cards form a temporary pact between two of the existing factions warring over the Spirit Jewels. For the duration of one game the player can use both of the factions specified on the card within his or her deck. Alliance cards only cover certain pairings, such as Rebels / Order or Istar / Starmen to remain in keeping with each individual faction’s back story and character. You would not get a Rebel / Istar pairing or a Starmen / Kingdom of the Dead pairing because they are the deadliest of enemies.

Alliance cards count as either an Event or Equip from your total deck size, and have to be played in your starting hand before you can lay any characters, thus enabling their effect for the duration of the game. They cannot be countered and are triggered automatically should they be forced from your hand by another’s card effect. They cannot however be used to cover discard costs from your own hand. Once they have been played they are sent to the Grave, their effect lasts the duration of the game.

DECK CONSTRUCTION

Construction of your Alliance deck is a tricky process – requiring you to keep a balanced selection of cards whilst still taking into account your total Jewels, and if you can power everything. The last thing you want is to find that you can’t quite get that last Jewel attached to Old One-Eye to win the game, or to play that Event. There are certain rules that must be followed during deck construction, and are as follows:

  • 14 Standard Jewels and 5 Spirit Jewels must be included.
  • Select the basic neutral Events / Equips from any release. These come in standard pre-set packs and contain 11 cards of varying uses to round out your deck. With the exception of Counter, they are completely different for every release, so your choice depends on the type of deck you wish to build.Select 4 Unique Characters, 2 from each of your allied factions. You cannot double up existing characters from previous releases with their later counterparts. For example you cannot have Flick (release 1) and Warleader Flick (Release 2) in the same deck.
  • Select 2 Character types from each of your allied factions. Place 3 copies of each character into your deck to fill out your basic character requirements.
  • Select from the Events and Equips available for each faction 8 cards in total. These cannot include doubles of any of those cards selected. We strongly suggest 4 Events and 4 Equips, but the balance can vary.
  • Select the correct Alliance card for your chosen deck and add.

This brings your deck to the max cards allowed, and allows for customization to suit your needs / wishes as a player. We want to hear back from you with which decks you prefer, as well as seeing some excellent combos. The best ones will go up on this site, with the name of the player who came up with them. So let’s see some imagination people!
