We're Gonna Blitz!
We would like to extend an invitation to all you mycologists out there; amateurs, professionals and wannabes alike! We are doing a major mycoblitz during our 2008 Fungus Festival and we're going to need your help! What is a mycoblitz you might ask..? It is a foray to gather and identify every mushroom in a specific area. The gathering techniques will differ from hunting for the table. Specimens will need to be lifted gently from the mycelium intact. Different examples of the same specimen in various life cycle stages might be needed. Spore prints will need to be taken, habitats noted and perhaps photographed. From this we can hope to catalog all the species found. A big job, but you've got to start somewhere! So we would love to see all you shroomers out there, especially folks from other Alaskan Clubs and Mycological Societies. As you can see from the web pages that follow, it won't be all work and no play. Oh no, a great time is guaranteed, check us out, click on some of our web pages, we'll be waiting for you!
