          Please meet Kira...

 

She had a rough beginning...

We adopted Kira through Penn-Ohio Newfoundland Club Rescue on April 28, 2001. Kira's previous owners lived in Northern Ohio near the shores of Lake Erie. We're not exactly clear on her "story" but we do know that she was kept tied up outside. She was very neglected, and starved for attention. This all occurred before her first birthday.

Kira's birthday is May 2, 2000. She is full of high spirits and energy! She knows no fear.  I think that she could run and play all day long! She loves every dog toy in our house, and sometimes has trouble telling the difference between my shoes and some of her toys! She needs to be with us wherever we go. She had some separation anxiety, but we've worked through that, for the most part.

Kira is her very own kind of therapy dog.  She's never had any formal training, nor is she certified.  However, she has been able to work magic with several of our foster newfs.  Kira has the ability to draw them out, and to teach them how to play and how to have fun.  She's tenacious and determined.  She is a very happy girl, and wants everyone else to be as happy as she is!

Kira loves riding in the car and her most favorite place in the world is the Dog Park.  She runs and runs and runs.... she barely takes time to stop and get a drink of water.  She gets along with every dog there, and is often the first one at the gate to greet new arrivals.

This picture was taken at Grand Lake St Mary's the summer of 2001.  I entered it in a calendar contest, and Kira's picture was selected for the month of June.  There was a ballot in each calendar, and people voted on their favorite picture in the entire calendar.  Kira's picture won, and she became Miss Newf Rescue of 2002. 

She was quite proud... and we were too!
