Welcome to the Coonabarabran DPS Local and Family History Group Inc.

We are a non-profit community organisation that provides assistance, training and research into local and family history.

The Coonabarabran DPS, Local & Family History Group was established in 1999 as the first rural Dead Persons Society in NSW.

We  include anyone interested in local or family history.  Our aim is to develop a comprehensive Research Centre where the pioneers of the past will come to "life".

Projects

Explanation

The three projects that we are currently working on are

Pioneer History of the Coonabarabran Area

This is researching who were our first pioneers, where they were born, where they lived, how they lived and where they died. We estimate that this research will take approximately two years to compile. Once this is completed, we will publish our findings on CD and later in book form. These will be sold as a means to support the ongoing running of the Group.

Italian Prisoners Of War held in Coonabarabran

We are gathering information on who these soldiers were, and what properties they worked on, and what happened to these POWs. We will also publish and sell our findings, as another way of financing the group’s activities.

Isolated Graves in Coonabarabran Area

We are locating, documenting and researching these lonely graves with a view to publication.  Information on those discovered to date is available for viewing at the Research Centre for a small donation.
