Do Not Feed: avocado, fruit pits and seeds, ground cherries (those that are sold with a lantern like cover), tomato plant, butter, foods containing high fat, salt, or sugar, and no alcohol, Chocolate in any form, Caffeinated beverages.   Dairy items are not digested in birds. Birds do not have the digestive enzymes necessary to process milk. There are some products that are available on the market as an alternative to dairy products. Soy Milk, Tofu Cheese, etc. Which can be given to your birds as an alternative to dairy items.

Rice Ball Surprise

Boil 2 cups of brown rice until it is sticky. Wait about half an hour for it to cool enough to handle. Fill a metal bowl with cold water and set off to the side.

Chop about 20-30 bite sized pieces of your bird's favorite veggie treat. Once the rice is cool enough to handle, take a small amount and flatten it in your palm, place veggie treat in center, cover with more sticky rice. Wet hands with cold water and roll into small, talon-sized balls, just big enough for your bird to hold. Repeat until rice is gone. Makes between 20 and 30 balls, depending on size. These can be frozen and re-heated in the microwave as desired.

Fruit Iceys

Take your parrot's favorite fruits.  Puree them in a blender.   Pour into Ice Cube Tray and freeze.

If your birds are like mine, they will love it.  Comes in handy in those hot summer months too.

SWEET POTATO CHIPS

Preheat oven to 400-425 degrees.  Peel one large sweet potato and cut it into strips like you would for fries.  Rinse in water and shake them in a bag with a mixture of ground cornmeal flour and a few shakes of Cayenne pepper.  Place them on a cookie sheet and bake them for 30 minutes, turning them over halfway through.  Mix cornmeal flour, some crushed red pepper, sesame seeds, 1 egg and enough water to make batter consistency.  Dip all the potato chips in this.  Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Brown Rice & Peas

1 1/3 Cups raw brown rice
2 2/3 Cups hot water
1 Cup fresh shelled or frozen green peas
1/2 Cup dry split peas, cooked until just tender

Cook rice until almost all of liquid is absorbed.  Stir in the fresh or frozen peas and cook about 1 minute until warm.  Don't overcook.  Add the cooked split peas. The combination of the brown rice and dry split peas gives complimentary protein.

Here are a few suggestions that may get your bird eating vegetables and Fruits:

1) Push some seeds into a piece of broccoli, apple banana or any other fruit or vegetable.
2) Weave a carrot top or celery leaf in the bars of the cage
3) Try different size pieces of various fruits and vegetables – some very tiny pieces that you can put in a dish or some larger pieces that you hang up in the cage.
4) Eat the food in front of your bird and offer him a piece from your hand or from your plate.

Remember that it might take anywhere from a few days to a few months to convince your bird to eat these foods, but for your bird’s health, please keep trying.

Do not remove the seeds to try to make your bird hungry enough to eat the fruits or vegetables. A bird can starve himself before trying to eat something that he does not know is food.
