COMPASS Programs

BASIC TRAINING PROGRAM

BASIC (Boys Acquiring Skills for Improved Character TM) Training Program, is a school-based, group mentoring program that focuses on self-discipline, character education and personal goal setting.  Classroom teachers nominate boys in grades 3-8 for participation in the BASIC Training program.

COMPASS Mentors conduct weekly school visits where they facilitate the BASIC Training curriculum.  Teachers continue to provide input on each cadet’s performance using the COMPASS Weekly Progress Reports.  This feedback allows the Mentors to assist cadets in achieving a higher level of personal accountability: academically and socially.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

Cadets who have successfully completed BASIC Training can be nominated by their COMPASS Mentor for advancement to the Leadership Training Program.  This community-based program exposes cadets to guest speakers, enrichment activities and the opportunity to serve as a peer group leader.

Leadership Cadets attend the weekly Compass Academy sessions.  Parents also participate on a greater level by volunteering as chaperones and attending monthly information forums.

APPRENTICE TRAINING PROGRAM

Apprentice level cadets must submit an approved application packet to participate in the Apprentice Training Program.

Apprentice Cadets are exposed to various career paths and business professionals who encourage them to start mapping plans for their future vocation and professional careers.  Cadets participate in job shadow events as well as standard Compass academy sessions.

AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

Ambassador level cadets serve as program leaders by coordinating youth-led service projects, seeking individual sponsorships and representing the program throughout the community.

Ambassador Cadets attend the Compass Academy sessions for continued support, guidance, and enrichment.  Parents take a more active role by supporting fundraising efforts that cover the cadets’ Dress for Success uniforms and special outings (around and out of town).
