Come to the Stable

The Stephen Spalding Foundation

Our Principles

Come to the Stable/The Stephen Spalding
Foundation is working hard to create a
holistic healing approach to support the
survivor/victims of sexual abuse through
respite care and rehabilitation both
as short-term and long-term
self-help therapy.

Your financial support will help us
realize our fundamental goal to provide
the best possible respite care and
health services to those in need of
healing and recovery from the trauma
of sexual molestation.

By creating a healing way station in life for survivor/victims, CTS/SSF believes that this approach is just one of many forms of practical assistance strengthening our life-coping skills.  Our services will be available at no cost to survivor/victims and their loved ones.

We also will work in partnership with other collaborating community groups to provide training and advice for such simple matters as job searches, cooking, housekeeping, and self-care dynamics.  These fundamental tasks often become lost arts for survivor/victims and require a degree of retooling to continue on successfully with day-to-day living.

Fundamental to our help for survivors/victims
of sexual abuse is our participation in the
ongoing campaign for strict enforcement of
child welfare laws and strengthening current
statutes to reflect the changing values of
society such as the statute of limitations.

In conjunction with these principles, Come to
the Stable/The Stephen Spalding Foundation
will participate in:

  • Documenting evidence of sexual abuse;

  • Educating public opinion and decision-makers about sexual abuse and its consequences;

  • Supporting the implementation of strict reporting standards for institutions that work with children and vulnerable adults; and

  • Campaigning to improve the legislative framework in the United States for the treatment of survivors/victims.

Our principles reflect those of Henri Nouwen and the foundation established in his memory:

  • Gratitude flows from the recognition that who we are and what have are gifts to be received and shared.

  • Fund-raising is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people the opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission.

  • The more we touch the intimate love of God, which creates, sustains, and guides us, the more we recognize that the multitude of fruits that come forth from that love.

  • Charitable giving is proclaiming what we believe in such a way that we offer other people the opportunity to participate with us in our vision and mission.
