Thanks to everyone who came and supported our last Comedy at The Castle night;had our biggest audience ever and we hope you all enjoyed the night, which was hosted by our last minute, stand-in compere, Terry Saunders, who did a great job. We hope to have news soon of when our next event at The Castle will be. Last year The Castle was crowned Magners Best Comedy Pub 2008 following its new act night back in June, with headlines in the Waltham Forest Guardian proclaiming The Castle 'the funniest pub in the UK'. Well, if that's what they say, who are we to argue?

The competition had two parts, one for best comedy pub and one for best pub comedian. The Castle was represented at the final, in Jongleurs at Camden, by up-and-coming stand-up Rachel Anderson - she was chosen as the best act by the audience at our new act night and she did a great job, coming second with a special commendation from the panel of judges.

The plaque won by The Castle is now mounted behind the bar and we hope to make the comedy nights a more regular event in 2009. Over the past few years we've had some fantastic acts at The Castle, including Steve Day, Nina Conti, Geoff Whiting, the brilliant Tony Law, Paul Foot, Swedish wonder Henrik Elmer, Shelagh Martin, John Gordillo, Meryl O'Rourke, Martin Davis, comedy legend Simon Munnery, German Comedy Ambassador Henning Wehn, Kevin Dewsbury, comic magician Christian Lee, cabaret sensation An Audience With Peter, Del Strain, and the hugely popular Milton Jones; as well as a variety of new acts and up-and-coming comedians from the London stand-up circuit; all for the bargain price of just £4.50!

Thank you to all the comedians who have appeared at The Castle and also to everyone who came along and made the nights such a success. Thanks also to Roger the Landlord for all his help and for providing the raffle prizes plus drinks for the comics.
